    No you don't.

Foreign born people are not treated as equals in Japan. They can never get the chance to get into big positions in careers. Not to mention they call you a name, not to make fun of you of course but as a title or something.

I don't know the whole details but that is what I learned from Japanese class.

also pumpkin pie is where its at.

Damn foreigners coming over to Japan, taking Japanese jobs from citizens...
    Tsk, Tsk...

I am a citizen of the world. Not of one country. Won't help my immigration applications at any time.

Georgia is only part of North Texas.

    All that and more.

I heard you have to have Japanese ancestry to ever be considered a citizen. Otherwise the most you can ever be is a resident. >>

This. I was the waiter of a Japanese group, they are not very pleasant people in general.

Japan are also developing their robots to keep foreigners out at a later point in time. They are the master race with the small pee-pees

Well there seems to be two types of views in Japan:

    1. The fear of Homogeneous contamination

    2. Welcoming of American culture.

To be honest, i've heard both sides of the spectrum so often, I do not know which one is more true. But i do know that to become a citizen is Hell on Earth.

Only ethnic Japanese are eligible for automatic citizenship, which means that there are ethnic minorities (Koreans, Chinese) born and raised in Japan, who speak nothing but Japanese that are still not Japanese citizens. Furthermore, Japan is one of the few countries in the world that does not allow dual-citizenship.

    Japanese citizenship requirements

To become a Japanese citizen you must have lived in the country for at least five years and be over twenty years of age. Your mental health must be good and you cannot have a criminal record. As always, officials will want to see proof that you can support yourself and your family.

In addition to these basic requirements, there is an enormous amount of required documentation. This includes everything from your birth certificate to photographs of your family and home.

Ministry of Justice officials will conduct an inspection of your home to determine whether you have adequately assimilated into Japanese culture. They will take note of your furnishings, your Japanese friends and your relations with your neighbours. There is a degree of subjectivity to the evaluation, so the outcome will likely have a lot to do with the personality of your inspector. Do not be surprised if he asks some bizarre or prying questions. Some applicants have been quizzed about their personal lives and romantic relationships.

The application process is lengthy (assembling the required documents alone can take more than a year) and you are hardly guaranteed citizenship for completing it – even after passing the inspection requirement.

Why would you want to live in Japan? It looks like a horrible country to live in imo.

That is rather wrong. The Japanese aren't nearly as xenophobic as they were twenty years ago and they were never as xenophobic as most humans think. I have at least two friends in real life who know this from experience. As far them being very welcoming of American culture, that's partially true. On one hand, they're the most westernized Eastern culture in the East. On the other, they've completely surpassed America in terms of free enterprise. The only thing I dislike about them are their super strict gun control laws. They're so strict that many people become police for the express purpose of being legally allowed to carry a gun.

Oh, and I'm pretty big in Japan.

    By comparison.

Actually you aren't American if you put ketchup on a hot dog.
    That is just a sin.
