That is exactly what I mean; you are defining science in the context of the systems you know; namely, physics and its branches. Magick would necessarily be an exact science. I see no reason to assume that it would not work on a trial and error basis like every other science.

That's what my gripe is with it. If it works like that it'd be a science. It'd be it's own branch of it but if it works in a scientific manner then it wouldn't be magic(k). I mean you could call it that but still. I just see magic(k) as something that can never be explained. Still, if you're going about it that way, then I can live with that. New branches of science emerge often. Though it might not be the type of magic I commonly think of when I hear the word.

The fault lies with your mindset, you have made a division. Here, as I use it, magick is a science that happens to fit into storybook archetypes. Fantasy proven real, or a close variation of it with practical applications.

    Think of it this way:
Magic=The stuff that Jesus did. There are no rules, save for those that would regulate its use put into place by humans.
Magick=Anything that would be defined as supernatural, except there are rules. Using Magick by X means under Y circumstances will always, without exception, produce Z result. That's how Alchemy is in the universe to which my OP refers works.

True point of discussion: You have the sad mixed up with the even sadder.

Ah, I read that as "dead mom is sad. Their dad leaving is sadder." Excuse that~
