...venomous disdain? I like stuff like Boulevard of Broken Dreams, but everything else is a passive "well it doesn't suck to me but I wouldn't choose to listen to this anytime."

I'm not anti-Green Day. I'm just not pro-Green Day either. Being neutral yet seeing so much love for them is what confuses me.

that's not the impression i've gotten from your posts about them but okay

maybe you don't understand because you haven't explored their music. listen to Nimrod. listen to Insomniac. listen to Warning. listen to Kerplunk. listen to American Idiot (multiple times because goddamn its so dense). I wouldn't expect someone to understand why the band is beloved by it's fans when Boulevard of Broken Dreams is your go-to song for them. Not a bad song at all, but not indicative of what they have to offer either.

jesus of suburbia - stand-in for the entire album because it's something to be experienced as a whole

This has never been misunderstood by me. I'm still going to voice what I think though.

Can't decide your impressions for you, regardless of my intention ;p

It's my go-to song because it's the only one I've listen to and genuinely liked and still continue to like. Many of my friends are Green Day fans. I performed a snippet of American Idiot for my thespian induction week of high school. My brother played that album a lot when he was in high school in our house. My friend's brother plays Brain Stew semi-frequently on the drums. Point is I've heard more than you may think (please don't take that in a dismissive tone, I don't intend that.)

Chop down that list and maybe I'll try it out.

that list contains a song from each album.
not necessarily my favorite and not necessarily the best, but the most standout from all 11 + rarities compilation. listen to some all or none your choice

so today i retired the password that i've been using since 2008 because it's had to adapt to all these different websites for work, school, and others and such and it's just become too hard to remember all of the variations I've had to made to adapt to different requirements. the new one is pretty sweet ngl and I made it so it satisfies the most strict password requirements I've encountered. so here I am going through all the websites I frequent, email, school, and all that other stuff, and I get to myanimelist and this masterclass password, 8 characters long, capitals, numbers, symbols, isn't good enough for myanimelist. are you kidding me. you're literally a website that i use to log the chinese cartoons I watch. and my password is too weak for it.

Well, could you just cut it down a little? You have to understand at least a bit how overwhelming it looks to me.

    Listening now. Will give opinions.

Brutal Love - Decent song. Didn't do anything I didn't enjoy.
In the End - Ok little song, but I'm not a fan of Billy's vocals. I like the melody.
Stuck With Me - Decent, but again not a fan of the vocals.

Of those three, It's not that I'm not enjoying what I'm listening to, but I'm not hooked either.

    fair enough
per my own enjoyment, gd listens best when you commit to an entire album in one sitting. not saying you should if you don't care but that's my take

I am but a wee child, I don't analyze movies because then I find faults then I don't like them anymore then there goes that cool experience. My brain works weird.

But it's important to analyze things. It's what changes what makes things good or bad.

If everything is good to you, nothing might as well be because there's no differentiation of quality.

:\ Well not everything is good to me I just really enjoy marvel so much that I get too excited to find anything wrong with it. But it might also be because I'm not as interested in Fantastic Four as in say the New Warriors. If there was a movie about them I would nitpick it so hard because the New Warriors are absolutely amazing and they deserve the coolest movie ever.

It's okay to like things that are bad. I like things that are, if not divisive, generally considered less-than-good, but I see why people don't like them and admit to their problems (unless I disagree and explain why). Having the ability to step back and look at something critically and as objectively as you can is what gives entertainment substance. Without that it's just things happening. Analyzing does not mean picking something apart to death. You look at the bad and the good. You think about why you like something. If you like something and can do this, you have the responsibility to point out the flaws to the best of your ability in the same way you articulate the reasons you think something is good. Thinking critically is not about nitpicking and taking all of the fun out of the experience, it's about expanding your comprehension and obtaining a deeper, more intellectual appreciation for the art of whatever you're observing.

Yeah, I know and I understand but when I analyze things I tend to go way too far. And I've been doing since I was little. And it sucks because I had this book I loved and we spent a we analyzing it in class(like plot and characters and stuff) and I can't even read it anymore.

I guess it's just one more of those things I need to work on. I'm a weirdo.
