That's enough! I'll find another! Stop! The pain began to subside into a--no, it didn't really subside all that much. Just enough for him to regain the strength to stand back up. The burning sensation in his mind remained in order to remind him that he had not been forgiven for losing the last target. Once he was walking again he stopped, staring over the deck of the ship to see that the group had been stopped by town guards for some reason. They had spoken loud enough for Enok to hear that they had spoken but given his condition whatever words that had been said just didn't reach him.

Whatever it was it was no concern to him. He had more pressing matters at hand if he was going to spare himself from more of the specter's punishment. Not wishing to be bothered by anyone else he took his blade and carried it by holding its sheath, choosing to walk in the opposite direction of the guards once he disembarked the ship.

The guard narrowed his eyes. A smart ass, huh? The men behind him seemed to sense their commander's irritation, and their hands went to their swords. At the words of bribery, however, the lieutenant's irritation exploded into anger. Stepping up closer to the witcher in a clear physical challenge, he raised his voice. "The guard cannot be bought! Furthermore, attempting to bribe a guard for a crime is a criminal offense. Witcher, I am placing you under arrest for breaking the law and putting the lives of the citizens of Novigrad at risk."

From the words of the Dutchman:
The old crow didn't back down from the challenge of the lieutenant, he knew he could easily take the man in single combat. He had misread the situation. "The breaking the law part I can understand. What I am failing to see however is how I put the lives of the citizens of Nowigrad at risk, I only borrowed this longbow to make sure that Serpent was going away. And where was your precious city guard during all that? I get your port is blockaded, but when the blocking forces are actually attacking you aren't you supposed to be doing something?" The old crow said slightly annoyed at the whole situation. "Derrick, don't do anything stupid, I'm sure we'll meet again, take care of yourself and don't get yourself killed." He turned back to the Lieutenant "So which one of you so obviously valorous defenders of public peace is going to do the honours."

The lieutenant's face turned from angry to smug; his superiors would definitely be pleased he managed to bring in a witcher, and without any casualties too. Putting his hand on the witcher's shoulder with the slightest of apprehension, he steered him towards the barracks. "Your remarks aren't going to do you any favours, witcher. Not where you're going." It was a little surprising how easy this was, but he wasn't going to question his luck. After his wife had left him, and his sister had died of the winter fever, perhaps his luck was finally turning around. Giving the witcher a little shove, he pushed him forward, the other men falling in behind them and leaving the other people from the witcher's group at the docks.

Teliana watched the guards escort the elder Witcher away with clear disdain in her eyes. Likely, if he hadn't agreed they would have threatened her and the others around her. Veceslav clearly knew how the guard behaved, but that didn't mean they needed to acquiesce to his sentencing. Putting a hand on Derrick as the guards and witcher moved away, she turned to him. "Just because he's going there doesn't mean he has to stay there. I do believe I and my sister can be of service, if you would have it. I might not care for your kind, but it is unfair that the flaws of humanity doom a man innocent of wrong doing in this situation to suffer. They only want to make an example of him." Taking her hand away, she beckoned. "If you wish, you can follow us to Dayla's tavern. The guards won't frequent it, too many strange types. If you wish to go your own way..." she shrugged. "Then good luck." With that she strode off, Alyse giving her a glare worthy of Medusa, but still following silently in her shadow.

January February March April May June July August September October November December

    Clear Cloudy Foggy
    Early Morning Late Morning
Early Afternoon Late Afternoon Evening Midnight
    Sun Rain
Snow Thunderstorm Blizzard Low Winds High Winds
    Freezing Cold Warm Hot

As darkness settled onto the streets, what had become lonely turned into deserted. Lanterns in the windows and smoke drifting from chimneys were the only signs that anything living still existed in the streets of Novigrad. Guards shivered in their leathers, having forgone their metal plates from the dangers of frostbite, with the small fires allowed providing little comfort. The clouds had drifted away and the snows had quit, leaving the air frigid and cold, stabbing lungs like knives with every breath taken. There was little doubt that it would be a harsh night, and the bells would ring in the morning to announce the frozen dead that would be found the next day. The moon was the only light upon the street, guiding any lost travelers towards the safety and warmth of the local taverns that remained open.

Alyse tapped her fingers against the table in Dayla's tavern, her other on the head of her hatchet. She surveyed the crowds, a scowl on her face before turning her back to the barkeep and facing them openly. It was nights like these that folks came to find warmth when their homes had run low on firewood, and when hot food was hard to find, they spent what little coin they had on beer instead. Foolish, but understandable. After the day she had, Alyse would have gotten drunk herself if she hadn't the need for her wits and reflexes. Her eyes drifted back to Teliana, wondering what the plan was. Why her sister was so intent on helping this witcher when it really was none of her business.

The nervous twitch in his hands subsided now that the deed was done. The swift woosh of a guard's torch could still be heard by Enok at this distance as the man frantically searched for the source of the boot prints in the snow that led away from the body. But the prints diverged in several directions and by the time the guard called for backup or followed them himself, Enok would be long gone. He took a quick glance at the dark red snow around his latest prey before jumping down off the roof he had climbed onto and on the other side of the building.

The one he killed probably hadn't harmed a fly in a long while but what he had done in his past was enough to gain the Hym's attention. From the glimpses of images the Hym gave Enok, he could tell that his target had committed at least one murder in the past. Possibly a crime of passion committed in his youth that he later tried to atone for. It didn't matter however. He reeked of guilt and that was enough for the Hym to make its judgment. Enok exhaled and watched as the vapor of his breath dissipate. His coat was hardly thick enough to be considered normal for this kind of weather though he chose not to wear something that could weight him down when there was no point in protecting against the elements. The Hym would never allow him to die because he got cold.

Enok had left his sword in his room at the tavern between leaving the docks and now. If he got caught running he didn't want to be seen with a weapon and humans were fragile enough not to require him to bring such a large sword to take a life. Just about anything would do. Even an icicle. Especially an icicle lodged in someone's eye. As Enok approached the tavern he paused to give himself a look over to make sure blood had not splashed back on him. Inevitable in his line of work but when he could, he tried to keep clean. For good reason, people did not take too kindly to one drenched in gore. Satisfied that nothing was amiss, he approached and opened the door. Almost instantly his mind began to itch and feel the tug of the specter's will as it attempted to pull him in several directions at once. Not even five minutes after his last job and it was already hungry for more. Just let me rest. Of course, it ignored his wishes. Enok noticed familiar faces as he made his way towards the stairs but refused to say anything and hoped they wouldn't as well. Keeping a low profile was important to him.

Thorvald rolled his eyes and stopped listening halfway through the boy's ramble "Do ye ever shut yer mouth?! Even if I wanted to tell ye - which I really, really, do not - I have a reputation for discretion with my clients" The skelligan mage shoved the young witcher towards the brig "Apparently ye haven't ever heard of discretion, I give no sh*ts about yer life story, just shut up and let these fine men take ye to the brig" Thorvald gave a final shove, before letting his crew take the man away, and turning towards the open sea.

    ...Some time later...
As the soft glow of the moon flickered against the lapping sea waves, as Thorvald's Longship docked up at a lonely jetty. Just a short while up the coast was the bustling port of Cidaris. Thorvald had visited that city once or twice, but had no business there today. Once safely docked, Thorvald made his way into the ship, to find the single damp cell where the pirates were keeping their little guest. The young witcher sat manacled on a grimy floor, and there was a consistent dripping from above. The skittering of rats could be heard, as they scurried away from Thorvald's heavy footsteps. Pulling out a ring of keys, Thorvald selected the one for the cell and opened the rusty door "Come along then boy. There's someone who wants to meet you"

"...so there I was, staring into the eyes of the beast, its scales like plated armour, its teeth like sabres. As it poised itself to strike, I knew we were in trouble..." Lysander wove his story through the hearts of those listening. Despite the frigid cold and biting winds, this tavern remained open. The well-fuelled fire roared in the fireplace, though the patrons still wore their fur coats and scarves as they huddled around their drinks. When Lysander had found this bar, it was in the throes of boistrous laughter. Now they were mostly silent, as they listened with rapt attention. Lysander smiled, and strummed on the lute, breaking the tension slightly "...but fortunately, unbeknownst to me, I was accompanied by some of the grest adventurers in the city" Lysander began the rollicking tale of the battle between the many strangers and the great serpentine best. He gesticulated wildly, and strummed out a dramatic, triumphant tune as he spoke. As the story reached a climax, he became more lively, getting up and walking around the room as he acted out the battle for his enthralled watchers. "...and then, with a final crash and a mighty roar..." Lysander turned and found himself face to face with the blazing fire. He stopped still for a moment, memories threatening to return. Yet, sturggling to regain his composure, Lysander turned back to the audience and continued "...the great beast fell back in to the sea, never to return!" Lysander ended the tale with a final truimphant melody, and bowed extravagently. He received applause, and several drinks, yet he felt shaken. The woman, "Miss Secret", had scared him. He'd known that sorcerers could sometimes command fire, but to see it in action...

Aaron only smiled his crooked smile before speaking again. He knew every word he spoke was pushing his luck more and more, but he couldn't help himself. "Hey for the record you kidnapped me. If you don't like what you got, it isn't my fault. I mean it is like fishing, you get what you get and if you don't like it, then you can always release it." He said with a shrug. Aaron knew that wasn't going to happen, but it was worth a try anyways. Of course instead of being released he was brought below deck. As soon as they were out of Thorvald's sight, Aaron once again considered the merit of taking these guards down. Even in chains he felt confident he could do it. That still left him however stranded on a boat, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by pirates. And while there were left guards it made him seem like a bigger threat.

Hours passed and when Thorvald came back for him, he found Aaron sitting cross-legged on the floor, seeming to be in a meditative state. He was completely relaxed and didn't seem to startle when the man unlocked the door. Aaron slowly opened his eyes and just looked at Thorvald silently for a moment. Apparently someone was ready to meet him, probably the person who gave the contract. Aaron just let out a sigh, this was certainly going to be interesting, and he hoped to the gods that this wasn't going to be his last moments. It wasn't that he believed in any gods but still somewhere he hoped something, some divine intervention would come to save him.
"So are you going to give me a chance to freshen up, or do I have to meet a new person looking like this?" Aaron finally asked.

Thankfully when Dayla returned to her tavern, there wasn't too much damage done. There was one keg of beer that was previously full, that now say empty, but besides that the property damage was minimal. Dayla took her losses with grace, she didn't mind if that was the only thing that had gone wrong. Soon enough Dayla was once again open for business, and somewhat wondering what was taking the witchers so long to return after she left. Dayla had assumed that they would follow close after, but if they didn't want the warmth of her tavern, then so be it.

As the night went on, the number of people in the room started to grow. Dayla was rather pleased with the turn out that night, she could use the money. Sitting at the bar was Aylse, who was not really paying attention to her, which was fine. In the end her job was to make sure the peace was kept in the tavern. Dancing around the bar, Dayla set out drink after drink for the patrons, nearly forgetting that the witchers had ever existed. Her worry was not on what happened to them anymore, just focused on those who were giving her money.

As she did this she looked up and saw the man that she ditched on the boat enter. Raising a brow to him, she held up a mug of ale, a silent offer to come sit and have a drink. It was too loud to bother speaking yet anyways. Dayla had felt slightly guilty for ditching him on the boat before, but she was simply trying to do whatever was best for her and her tavern. Perhaps this would be enough to make it up to him for ditching, maybe not. It was at least worth a try.

Enok stopped on his way towards his room, looking over at the drink left on the counter by the elf woman. A drink would have done better than a few minutes of shuteye in any case. Though there were witchers around and he was not fond of dealing with them. Through no choice of his own he was drawn over towards the bar and forced to sit. The guilt was clear on her face, they both saw that. New, fresh, and underneath was something deeper that drew the specter. Enok faked a small hint of a smile as he took her up on the offer for a free drink.

"Good stuff." He spoke lowly after swallowing, wishing it had been something stronger to dull the headache that was building. "Do you ever get any sleep or is running this place a twenty-four hour job?" Enok questioned only moderately interested. If he had been a normal person he might have held it against her or the others for not following him into battle but the only things that ever mattered in the end were following the mental pressuring of the Hym and avoiding its retribution. Everything else could just simply fall into place where they may. It was better this way. If it wasn't for the spirit, he would have been on a very different path. A bloodier path that his family line would have forced him into. One could say that he had even become a better man because of this curse. Enok tapped his fingers against the bar amused with the thought. He wasn't a better man. Merely a cursed one.

The City guard had dragged him off to the prison, after tooking some liberties during their duties of locking him up. The dull ache of their beating remained as they boasted they were the greatest of warriors for the glorious capture of a witcher. Of course leaving out the fact that the witcher in question went along voluntarily. They had stripped off his armour and left him in his pants, his arms cuffed to a wooden beam above his head and took their turns beating the witcher. Taunting him, asking him where his fancy sword tricks were now and claiming that a witcher's skills were exaggerated. Both of them knew that in a straight up fight he would beat any of them. But this was the City Guard, people walking tall but when the monsters come knocking, they don't answer the door.

The Older witcher was boiling with rage on the inside, he should have known better than to just go along, expecting the guard to atleast act civilized if he acted like it too, this didn't help against the freezing cold within the cell. He was freezing and bruised while the guard outside the cell was doing fisstech. He didn't know how long he was going to get stuck in this hellhole, undoubtedly the guards who captured him would come back for some more entertainment. They had taken pre-cautions to make sure their glorious prize wouldn't escape. They'd better pray to Melitelle that he wouldn't get free because he would have some debts to collect. Like the hunter he was he would await his opportunity to strike. He was faster than these guys, more skilled in the art of combat too. He was going to need his swords and wasn't going to leave without taking his things back. He watched the guard outside his cell, the man was too busy with his standard 'work' routine to pay any attention to him, ueful for later. Now he'd just have to wait for the opportunity to see how tough these tough guards are.

Thorvald gave a grunt and rolled his eyes "I'll be sure ta tell yer new owners how sassy ye are" he said bitterly, as he grabbed Aaron and hauled him to his feet. He lead the boy out onto the deck of the ship, bedraggled and manacled. On the small jetty stood a man wreathed in dark robes. Though it was difficult to see, he carried a sword at his hip. "last chance to talk back to me, any witty words to say, boy?" Thorvald narrowed his eyes at the young witcher. They were almost alone on the deck of the ship, only a few crewmen busy tying rigging and doing other nautically-appropriate jobs. And then there was the robed man on the land, his features hidden and remaining silent for now, fingers steepled in front of him.

Aaron let himself be dragged on deck, processing the words. Owners. So that was why he wasn't dead yet, there was other plans for him were there? Too bad that Thorvald had stopped taking so many precautions. Once on deck Aaron took note of how few men were still on deck, and how many less were paying attention to him. This was the point that he could use his witcher training. He might have been without his weapons now, but that didn't mean he couldn't do some damage. "You know I just might have something else to say...." Aaron started with a bit of a smirk before he lunged for the man, trying to head butt him in the gut followed by getting his manacles around the mans neck. If he could do all that, if he managed to pull this off, Aaron might be able to kill the man who kidnapped him before he was handed over to his new, so called owners. Being chained would make things more difficult, but nothing that he couldn't handle, not if he really tried and put his focus into it. He might still have been a new witcher but he had trained for a long time and survived the trials, he could survive this too.

Derrick very reluctantly listened to Vec and watched the guards take his teacher away with a scowl. They could have torn that group of guards apart with ease, had they tried. A quick Aard, and a flash of steel and they'd have had three or four dead in an instant. Axii one, maybe two for chaos. It would have been a mess though. Even if they hadn't got hit, more may have come and he doubted they'd be able to blame it on Skellige raiders.
"You're right." He agreed as Teli put a hand on his shoulder and reminded him that jailbreaks were a thing. The only problem being - It was a jailbreak. Witchers weren't welcome all the time but they weren't usually outright arrested. He didn't fancy being on a wanted list somewhere, but he'd already lost one brother. Vec wasn't out of reach per say, but nor did he relish the likelihood of a breakout. He had an option to get some help on a potential breakout, and he wasn't going to say know. He followed after the sorceress and her sister. That Elf lady's tavern was going to be the spot eh? Didn't surprise him in the slightest that guards didn't frequent it.

The tavern was bustling, and he spotted the Aen Sídhe from the boat again inside. And the crazy guy that was ready to sail a boat directly into that raider fleet. This place was full of interesting characters. He took a seat next to Teliana, not wishing to get a drink quite yet. He didn't want to get that strange man involved. Not when his Medallion was playing havoc with the two sorceresses nearby and a bar full of other strange people. He was more than a little suspicious.

"So, what gets a sorceress interested in helping a Witcher jailbreak his Witcher teacher?" He asked casually, leaning back against his chair. "Or is this something you do often?"

Following the incident regarding Vececlav's arrest, Lumen had continued to briefly looked around to find some alternate paths for him to take should the need arise. When that was all taken care of he then headed back to the tavern and well...just sat there. He had opted to sit at a empty table this time around as he started just idly look around at his surroundings.

Teliana tapped her fingers against the table, staring down at the scroll placed in front of her. She had kept a map of the jails in her collection just in case. It was possible however, in the last hundred years they had updated the rooms and walls. While she didn't like the odds of getting trapped in a hallway that wasn't supposed to have a room, they didn't have time before daybreak to find another blueprint. "Mm, that's not really a relevant question, is it Master Kaedwin? Though if you're questioning my experience, have no fear. I'm quite adept." She looked up and briefly met Alyse's eyes, before sliding her gaze through the rest of the tavern. "I'll leave Alyse to convince Dayla. They're close, and it'll come better from her most likely. However, even with the three, or four of us working our way through the jail, we'll need a lookout. Since your friend the bard is nowhere to be found...." Standing up, she let her arm slid over Derrick's shoulders in order to direct his gaze, before heading towards a young man, sitting alone at a table.

"Hey stranger." She sat down with a wink, her hair sliding teasingly over her shoulder. "Fancy buying a girl a drink?" Hopefully Derrick would be smart enough to follow her after she had time to air her proposition. Goodness knows she wouldn't be actually able to pay the child, if it came down to it. And she didn't want to burn down Dayla's bar if she could help it, should he prove the more lecherous type. "I have a proposition for a strapping young lad, such as yourself. That is, if you feel up to such a request."

Alyse outwardly groaned at the look in Teliana's eyes when their gaze met, but she still got up and reluctantly slid over to where Dayla was standing, apparently chatting with the stranger from the boat earlier. Odd man. Alyse got a bad feeling, staring at him. The type that made her want to growl and either slug him with her hatchet or run the other way. Ignoring her instincts, she stood her ground and waited for Dayla to finish conversing with him, trying to make eye contact with the elf to make it clear she would like to speak, whenever she had the chance. Alyse wasn't going to hurt Dayla's chance for a better reputation, or more business, after all.

Wet. Cold. Hungry. Angry. Kord had spent the journey cursing himself for his pathetic attempt at a "plan" that forced him to sneak aboard a raider ship and sit in a lower deck while his clothes were still soaked and partially frosted. He was mostly dry now though his hair still dripped water down onto his leg. Speaking of which, his legs were feeling numb from having been stuck in his sitting position for so long. When it finally felt like they had docked he waited for the activity on his deck to die down before making his escape. He didn't get far before he head some voices overhead on the ship's main deck. "Sounds important." He mused to himself in a whisper. It sounded like a struggle nearly directly above him with a prisoner given the sounds of rattling chains. Not good odds if he wanted to get involved considering his alternative was siding with the same people who would kill or chain him for stowing away on their vessel.

Dayla was relieved when the man came down to sit for the drink she had offered. She was almost sure that he had hated her. Not only did he come accept her offer of a free drink, but he also attempted a conversation. It was a nice change of pace. The questioned seemed a bit odd, but she supposed fair. "I do sleep at times. Generally early morning and naps in the early afternoon. Unfortunately it isn't a great sleep schedule, but what can you do when you don't have much hired help." Dayla said with a shrug. "You get used to it after a while." She added to the end.

As she spoke with the strange man she glanced over at Alyse who seemed to be trying to get her attention. Taking a few steps away from Enok, Dayla lifted a chin to Alyse, an invitation to come talk, although she didn't go to far from Enok either. She stuck close in case the man needed something else, but she wanted to give her only employee a chance at her attention as well. She rather liked the girl and preferred to be on her good side when she could. That being said the customer always came first and it was a balancing act between managing both. She had to at least try.

Thorvald narrowed his eyes at Aaron as the boy looked around. He hoped the boy wouldn't do anything stupi- that was when he was headbutted in the gut. Although he grunted in surprise, the thick chainmail Thorvald wore protected him from the damage. In an instant, the boy was trying to follow up the move, but Thorvald was an incredibly experienced fighter. He caught the boys hands as they reached up to throttle him with chains. For a moment they struggled together. Thorvald was a tough and hardened Skelligan warrior, but this boy had the mutations of the witchers. As if in response to his disgruntled state, the wind began to howl. Small sparks of electricity began to fly off Thorvald's hands, as he built up a lightning charge...

Teli's answer didn't tell him much, and she seemed to be avoiding the question. It was safe to say though - She was more than capable of breaking people out of prisons. Her lack of an answer suggested to him that she may have even broken a Witcher out before. She was suspiciously non-specific about it. But, that wasn't really his business. Just a matter of curiosity. He watched from a short distance away as the sorceress made herself seem as alluring as possible as she tried to be in the process of heading over to a table. He saw someone he vaguely recognised from the boat earlier, but he didn't think much of the man at the time. However, upon closer inspection, he spotted the telltale cats' eyes of a Witcher. He'd wait until she'd made the suggestion before joining her. For now, he strolled on up to the bar.
"The strongest stuff you've got if you would." He asked the bartender, who was revealed to be the Aen Sídhe woman from earlier. A haughty Elf behind a bar? Well, this was quite the sight. Whyever did she have that bow still, he wondered.

Lumen had been lost in his thoughts while he sat by himself, plus there was the added fact that he doubted that anyone would approach him where he currently sat. So to hear someone speak to him was unexpected on top of the fact that said person had spoken to him on top of the fact that they had chosen to sit across from him. The woman was attractive, that was Lumen noticed right off the bat. "Perhaps, depends on who I am buying the drink for."

She mentioned something about a proposition. Was he interested in said proposition? Yes, in fact some of that interest had appeared on his. Not the most noticeable of things, but the small hint of it was there.
"And what might this proposition be?" The fact that he was interested didn't change how he knew little about what it was that she was trying to get him to partake in.

Unfortunately he was unable to get his manacles around the mans neck, instead the man grabbed his hands. Aaron struggled to get free again. He was thankful his signs didn't require full movement of his arms as he cast Quen on himself. It wasn't necessarily considered the most powerful sign, but it was the one that Aaron took his time perfecting the most. Derrick had is Axii, and Aaron had his quen. It was second nature to him to use that sign first. However observing the sparks on his hand it might have been a good thing. Aaron hadn't really been overly exposed to sorcerers, so this was new for him. He needed to think fast. With Quen active, he then moved back to the offensive, taking advantage of his legs being free. bringing his knee up and around he tried to knee Thorvald in the stomach. He wasn't going to extend his leg fully, that was just going to end up with the man catching his leg. No different then fighting any other human after all. If he could at least stun the guy it would give a chance for him to run at the very least.

Kord raised an eyebrow on hearing the scuffle going on above. A part of him was tempted into just wolfing out (again) and jumping through the deck, tearing through wood and into flesh in one instant. The idea was glorious but given that he spent so long in a cold dark area of the ship he wasn't really feeling it at the moment. And he was hungry. "This...this isn't going anywhere." He muttered under his breath. Leaving was an option but unless he wanted to swim back or continue waiting in his corner until everyone left the only way out was through.

"Should've thought this out better but it's too late now." He spun his hatchet in his hand and paused for a moment feeling that he would probably regret making another reckless action but at the same time...at leat he could claim it was for a noble cause if anyone asked. And if he survived.

"Hello there! Mind picking a fight with someone not chained up?" He called out to Thorvald.

Enok placed his elbow on the bar and watched the elf woman step closer towards a girl he felt eyeing him earlier. Unfortunately, he did not believe she was looking at him in any kind of seductive manner. Not that he was interested in such things these days but it meant that he likely made her uncomfortable and that often happened when he lingered anywhere for too long. It was difficult to play the part of an ordinary drifter when part of your personality was comprised of a murderous vengeance spirit and the other part was perhaps even less pleasant.

His mind had already begun to wander even as Dayla answered him requiring him to refocus on the reality in front of him. "I suppose you should hire more help then. This place seems to be doing well enough." He finally responded towards Dayla, his eyes now shifting over towards the girl who looked his way. The Hym didn't like her much either from what he could tell but the draw towards Dayla was so much stronger he barely even felt it. "Good help must be hard to find these days though." He added, still watching Alyse.
