    Moving this to Current Events...

Anyhow, for some reason the link posted there doesn't work for me. Here's an alternative one.

This really sounds somewhat interesting. Although, I don't think something like this will be used for public purposes. It does sound a bit creepy to think of robotic domination, but lol...that's a bit far fetched.

That's interesting, Tie. I wonder how it works, though.

Pretty soon, everything will be able to be done for someone instead of them doing it themselves, haha!

I dunno how I feel about this.

On one hand, a lot of work would be made simple for us with computers functioning on that level, but...I just feel uncomfortable with the thought of computers dominance. xD

Anyway, yeah, as long as it's being used in the more difficult areas (data analyzing and stuff) and not put in our cars and/or heads, I think this is an interesting idea.

    I strongly doubt a "Technological Domination" could occur in this lifetime at least...We're supposed to have damn flying cars by 2020, but I doubt that will happen ;~;
And, didn't Back to The Future 3 take place in 2015? C'mon science, pick up the pace.

    Ohhh creepy.
    But at the same time...
    Pretty epic.

    And lol,I agree with Kayate....
    Flying cars,is something I need.

If you think about it... "prototype chips that could mimic brain-like functionality, which the company said is an "unprecedented" step forward in creating intelligent computers that collect, process and understand data quickly." Wouldn't that be a paradox...

A computer is meant to proccess info faster. Giving it brain-like qualities would make it more human, thus making it less effecient. Unless they are referring to how to react to situations, conversations, and instinct... but i don't think they will have anything soon, we still don't understand everything about the human brain.

You would all be amazed what AI can do. I haven't even read the article yet but I know AI can be almost identical to a human brain.

    Precisely.

Just look at how the AI in some video games is almost human-like, such as in the Kingdom Hearts series.

But it goes way past that actually. AI can and does run itself and can run an infinite amount of combinations of actions. In theory if they base this off of an AI type concept then essentially nothing can or will go wrong.

The brain already processes data as fast as a computer. Consider reflexes for example. It's just that actually thinking and reasoning takes longer. So if we build a computer that is able to think like a human, that doesn't mean it will suffer. It simply means that it will be more able to think and reason like us, and probably still much faster.

The human brain is far more advanced than you guys give it credit for.

I never said it wasn't. But if you knew anything about this kind of stuff you would know some of it can be replicated and rather easily at that.

I have a friend who wrote a book on AI last year. He showed me what his can do, and I was substantially impressed. All that it takes is enough factors...

Indeed it does and since it is a repeating cycle it can go from 1 to 2 back to 1 to 3 and so on.

Basically it can be as random as you would want or not at all which in a sense would be better than the human brain.

Eh. In an estimated ten years or so we'll have technology that surpasses that of the human brain and possibly in another ten years it'll surpass the human race. It'll be a good while before anything common reaches the power of the human brain. ...Sadly the only things I can think of at the moment relating to advances in this kind of technology is better video games. >> Obviously there's a great amount of uses for it. << I only wonder how much we can advance technology and shrink it once we start implementing those "quantum" circuits...

We already have technology to surpass the human brain already, only not the emotional side of it. The logic side of it was surpassed long ago.

I can't wait to see what happens, I am very interested in aritificial intelligence etc, and I will most likely be taking AI as a class. Exciting, and I'm not surprised IMB were the ones to come up with it.

You just contradicted yourself then. Either it does or doesn't surpass the human brain. Besides, technology on its own is still more or less stupid. It can do some pretty impressive stuff but it's still got a little while to go before it surpasses a human's brain. Until it gains sentience and/or the ability to create its own specifications for even more advanced technology on its own it's still not comparable to the human mind. We're still more advanced than all the tech in the world right now.

Never said it couldn't be replicated. Just said it was advanced.
