Hell's Rebels: In Hell's Bright Shadow

Kieran, still angry at the potential loss of opportunity that could've occurred at the riot, runs near an alley. Hearing the clash of steel and the voice of someone in pain, he stops and sees the thugs attacking a well-dressed man. Without even thinking, Kieran draws his swords and runs to the nearest thug and using both hands, swings the sword with as much strength as he can muster.

Vance ran toward the alleyway to find shelter, noticing a couple others from the riot had the same idea. He stopped short when he noticed thugs that were strikingly similar to the same he saw at riot mugging a man. Vance felt injustice in this city had run rampant long enough, as he flicked out the whip on his belt. A sparkling aura covers the weapon. The man behind him wielding the large sword rushed ahead and took a large slice into one of the thugs. Vance eyed the man holding a shortsword over the fashionable man, he aimed his ship to crack against the southern Thugs arm and pull the man to look at Vance eye to eye. Vance's bloodshot serious stare burns into the man and shakes his confidence.

6:46 AM, Aria park outskirts

Whether by chance or by design, the five individuals who had attended the rally known as Andros, Arthur, Purrah, Reno, and Velvet ended up in close vicinity to one another once they'd branched away from the crowds. They ran aimlessly for the moment, until they heard a commotion in an alleyway. They would be alerted by the sound of barking and snarling hounds, all handled by a single member of the Dottari. The collection of hounds and guard had cornered a man in a rather dapper outfit; a suit that was both lavish and ornate, with a cravat tucked into his collar, a top hat and a single white glove adorning only one hand. The Dottari seemed to have a scowl on their face as they continued to speak at the man. "-and why I shouldn't throw your suspicious ass in jail."

"Now now, Monsieur, we need not be so hasty. I am merely an artist possessed by his craft, and my possessor of a muse had guided me to such a scene."

"And why would you paint something as repulsive as that?"

"Repulsive? Oh non non, Senior, you are mistaken. Such a scene dedicating the passion and fire of the citizens is something that must be documented for all to see!" The man threw his arms out to the side with an enthusiastic smile on his face, causing the hounds to look back up a bit, before snarling more angrily at him. His expression became a bit more coy as he said, "though, I was not expecting my subject matter to be so literal."

The Dottari sighed as he sighed, "whatever. You're coming with me."

"What? Do we live in such times that a man can be arrested for mere suspicion?"

"If it provides a threat to Thrune I see no reason why not. Besides, your outfit is in wild violation of Proclamation the Fourth. What say you to that, artist?"

The man scoffed saying, "this is Kintargo! Just because we are governed by a savage who thinks himself king does not mean one should lessen themselves to be one as well."

The Dottari's look of irritation formed into a full scowl before saying, "forget arresting you. Hounds," as he whistled, the man sat back and watched as the four dogs pounced at the man, beginning to bite at him and drag him to the ground. The man let out a surprised yelp and began to let out screams of pain as the dogs continued to attack him. The five would be able to move close enough to engage the both the guard and their hounds as the combat started. However, the Dottari seemed more focused on the man he was maiming and didn't seem to be paying any attention to them, so they would be able to keep running away if they so chose.

Purrah heard the voice of someone following her and seeming to speak directly to her, which she found curious. When they said they hoped she knew where she was going the catfolk looked in their direction and said, "Thissss one runs away from riot without a place in mind." but it did not take long for her running to end with a destination regardless, since she heard a noise of alarm that ended up drawing her that way just because she felt a safe enough distance from the other craziness, but she still had her personal mission in mind. As she listened in towards the interaction the cat was disgusted by the idea of... well she didn't know if he did anything wrong in accordance to Thrune and she didn't quite care. But just going straight to killing someone was crossing the line for her, and with a wave of emotions on her mind, slight inebriation, and probably a healthy dose of stupidity, the catfolk ran on in for the fight at the Dottari and slammed her fist into his face.

The Dottari seemed content to merely watch the dogs continue to bite at the verbose and insolent man, a smug smile across his face as he did. This smile, however, was soon cleaned up as an oddly furry fist blind-sided him, striking him in the face and causing him to stumble back a bit. The man nearly fell down, but managed to catch themselves before looking up at the cat folk before them. Purrah would be able to see the Dottari not holding up so well, barely managing to stand back upright as blood was gushing from their nose. The man looked at her, some confusion in his expression that was swiftly overwhelmed by raw fury as he said, "I am so going to kill you." With a whistle, the hounds looked up from their current prey, moving towards Purrah as the Dottari gestured towards her.

The two nearest hounds moved to attack Purrah first, both with jaws at the ready moving to snap down on the brawler. She proved nimble enough to dodge one, with the other slamming harmlessly against her shield. The next two began to circle around her, trying to surround and bite down on them as well. The first of the circling hounds had focused more on its movement then it did not the opponent before them, and thus Purrah found an opening to exploit. Unfortunately for her, she hadn't fully recovered her footing yet from blocking the attacks and swung clumsily at the dog. While her fist hit nothing but air, the dog bit where Purrah had been, missing as well. The fourth hound had much more success than the rest of its pack, managing to bite down on her leg. The dog attempted to pull Purrah's leg out from under her, but didn't quite have the strength to do so.

Velvet continued running until she had reached Aria Park along with four other strangers. She looked over at the four, still a little concerned over the earlier events but curious as to who they were. She then looked over and saw a man in elegant suit. It had appeared that he was talking to the Dottari. It had seemed that they were mad at the man. The conversation had started taking a turn for the worse. Before she knew it, hounds had been realeased and surrounded the man immediately. Two of the strangers near her had immediately ran into battle, fighting against the hounds. After a few moments of deliberation, Velvet had decided to go into battle. She readied her rapier and looked for her target. She immediately charged over to one of the hounds, managing to land a hit but it had barely made a dent.

At the point in which all that running would have taken a toll on him, Arthur had heard the sounds of dogs snarling and barking. Up ahead there was another Dottari was there with a ground of dogs that were making way attacking some random man. Well that certainly wouldn't do. Others had already gone ahead to attack, one he'd recognized from a few brief spotting in the earlier crowd. Arthur stopped after moving close enough in which the houndo was in range. Arm outstretched, he aimed and pulled the trigger, firing off a bullet that did wound the animal, but not enough to finish it.

The catwoman's response did nothing to relieve Andros's mounting concern that he was, perhaps, involved in something that was way over his head. Running down the streets in a foreign city with the local law enforcement on his tail with strangers for company-not what he had expected. But just as his mind began to wander from the running, the scene in the alleyway presented itself. Andros stood, watching the conversation unfold. Maybe it was exhaustion, or the strangeness of the situation, or something else that rooted him to the ground, but when the catwoman leapt into action, Andros found himself frozen no longer. Forcefully opening his hands, he willed his panoply into existence again, and then gestured, launching one at the hound nearest him. The impact tore through the throat of the animal and the mindblade pierced the pavement before disintegrating.

While the body of one of his hounds was mangled by a fine stab, bullet wound and mind sword piercing its body, the Dottari in charge of them didn't seem to be all that worried. Instead, his fury only grew, especially as more strange people, especially a dog person, joined the fray. Readying his shield and mace, the man stood his ground, eyes focused on the woman who had broken his nose before going for a swing of his own. Despite his injury, the man didn't seem any bit deterred by it and managed to land a solid hit at Purrah's ribs, dealing a significant amount of damage and nearly dropping the woman.

The Thugs were being made short work of by the group, with one dead, one unconscious from the whip strike, and one seemingly dazed by some sort of magic. Yet, the two remaining ones who could were brave. They both ran up in an attempt to strike down the elf who had killed one of them. Yet, their courage got them little in the way of progress, as Kieran nearly effortlessly deflected both of their strikes.

Being very greatly injured, Purrah decided to make a retreat away from the Dottari and the hounds. While there were three hounds, one seemed more focused on the dog man in front of them, snarling in a challenge at them and thus didn't pay any attention to Purrah. As such, the other two hounds chomped at her legs, while the Dottari swung their mace down at her head. The first of the dogs was batted away by the feline's shield why the second tried to sink its teeth into her, but couldn't get past the armor. Finally, the Dottari swung down and though his aim seemed true, Purrah was still nimble enough to avoid the mace swing. Having just avoided certain death, Purrah made their way away from the front lines.

The dogs were still snarling at their pray, one looking at the fox man before them. As such, the hound lunged forward and sunk its teeth into Reno's leg, which while painful was not overly so. The other two hounds, now that Purrah had gone, chased after the next closest threat. Moving towards the Undine, they both charged at her with teeth bared and snapped at her, though she proved nimble enough to avoid the attacks.

As Roshe ran alongside Vance and the man who seemed to rile up the crowd earlier, she eventually ended up running alongside only a few other people as the crowds had finally dispersed. The girl felt like she could stop running soon, looking back to see that the crowd was far behind her, but she was soon carried along by a different sound. Moving with the group to see a large gathering of thugs beating up on a man, the girl clenched her fists, about to call out to them, only for the people she was traveling with to be far more responsive and quick about it. With brutal agility, they had managed to take down a few of them, with another seeming to be way out of it.

While they had stopped hitting the unconscious man, Roshe moved to meet the eyes of one of the thugs saying, "you should all really reconsider this." Flicking her wrist, a ball of blue and fuchsia light appeared in her hand which she proceeded to fire out towards the thug. As the ball struck him, the man's body glowed, outlined in a color similar to the one she had tossed at him. With another flick of her wrist, pale silver chains appeared around him, tightening around him and hampering his movement.

Roshe used Glow (touch attack) on Thug 5. 1d20 (12) + 3 = 15 on touch. Thug 5 is glowing.
Used Bound Light on him, causing glowing target to become Entangled. Must make a fort saving throw each round (DC 16) or become Staggered for one round. Lasts for 1 minute.

 

Velvet looked over to see a eagle now appear near her. She decided not to address it for now. She grabbed her rapier and decided to attack the other hound nearby her and the eagle. She went in for an attack and unfortunately missed.

His first attack had successfully wounded the hound that was later finished off by someone else. Arthur wasn't sure how to feel about assisting someone else in a kill he'd meant to do in himself, but seeing as there were plenty of other targets around he didn't think much on it. Instead he aimed towards another hound and fired a shot off at it. The bullet hit its mark and the hound collapse onto he ground.

Andros strode forth cautiously, moving closer to the pompous self-proclaimed artist. His eyes tracked the Dottari's every move, and he loosed another mindblade at him. The ethereal weapon struck the Dottari in the chest, piercing through his armor and pushing him back a step. As the mindblade dissipated, its target fell to the ground, groaning.

Seeing the girl dealing with the thug in front of him and entangling him, Kieran turns to the thug beside him. Still feeling pissed, he continues to swing with all his might.

Vance uncoiled his whip from the unconscious Thug. Vance wondered if he should judge people and call them Thugs, he was a pirate after all. But for some reason Thug just fit these guys too well. Vance shrugs. He went to move South East, seeing one of the Thugs that was affected by the musician's strange music playing. Vance whirled his arm back and went to crack his whip against the man's throat and pulled his eyes into Vance's vision. "Look over here" and Thug was intimidated by Vance's death glare.
