A few bits of information have popped up during an interview with Tabata at Famitsu. The game is roughly one-half open world in the beginning and one-half linear for the end section. Though "linear" sounds pretty vague here since it doesn't seem to imply that you can't still explore. Just that the story doesn't spread out anymore.

Also, the season pass doesn't cover all planned and future DLC. Just the six DLC pieces announced so far. Not surprising giving how much money Square needs to get out of this game. Also, the Prompto VR thing is its own...thing. Doesn't seem to be the same thing as the "Episode Prompto" DLC that was announced.

    Source 2

Also, a few extra minutes of off-screen footage from the Master Version of the game:

They are really pushing this world. Side games, Spin offs, spin offs of spin-offs, movies, anime, books. For their sake I hope this game turns out to be amazing.

I'll give this a shot. I'm always looking for new mobile games that aren't trash.

When I saw the trailer I felt that it was more like...they're using FFXV to keep that mobile game from dying in obscurity. Anyway, Episode 5 "Warmth of Light" went up on youtube yesterday.

    Rejoice!

Just look at what the Death spell does to enemies. Creepy.

I'd imagine it only works on certain enemies in certain situations, and that this is just an introduction/demonstration of the actual spell. If not it will probably have some huge disadvantages, like massive MP requirements, a high level or something like that.

It is an interesting take on it, allowing for stuff like taking out the MA which normally feels odd to me. But I agree that it seemed pretty unbalanced. The Iron Giant was the only thing in the video that had notable resistance to it. And while MP dropped at a decent rate things died before the total cost got bad. Maybe for demonstration they set the magic power really high?

The game's Moogles are being shown off for the first time in just over four hours from this comment.

They made a site page with a countdown just to show the Moogles? Hoo boy. Not sure how I feel about that

So the Moogles are just dolls that can be used to help Noctis "in a tight spot". Pretty vague.

Also, in other news...the tracklist of songs you can play on the Regalia's radio has been released and boy is it a long list.

    Moogles are just dolls?

Some of the decisions they have made for this game is really pushing me away from the series. The "fantasy" part of the game is disappearing with each title and it is disappointing.

I understand that you aren't saying that "because moogles are just dolls" that "the fantasy part of the game is disappearing", or rather I should say that I hope you aren't saying that. Fantasy comes in many shapes and sizes, meaning that Square mixing things up doesn't mean it isn't fantasy based. A gigantic fictional world filled to the brim with different types of magic/things that cannot be explained sound pretty fantasy based to me. It might not be "old Square", but if somebody told you that this game was going to be like that, they probably lied to you.

I don't know, I am not too bothered by it. I am going to give Square a fair shot at this game, and if it is great then yay I didn't waste my money. However, I won't be casting negative judgement until after I play it, otherwise that isn't fair.

This. Square has held my faith enough in the past that I'm willing to make allowances when they do crazy sh*t. Hell, if you didn't know what Kingdom Hearts was you'd think it was pretty radical too.

Not judging something until I've experienced it is one of the things I'm personally all about.

You ever play FFX, or better yet, X-2? Moogles aren't even mentioned in that game except for the single costume Yuna wears. And don't forget that a moogle never showed in FFVII either, just variations of one.

Point is there's been a couple of times where moogles haven't been living things and have been in the series and it hasn't detracted from the story or anything "final fantasy" about it. You should give it a shot before just jumping the gun.

Lulu (FFX) also actually has a moogle doll, so I don't really see why anyone would really go super up in arms about something like that. Tbh if the one horrible thing about FFXV is the "lackluster inclusion of proper moogles", then eff it, that's a fantastic game in my book.

    and @Dr. Lux

Yes, I have played them, but at least those games were in a setting that seemed a lot more fantasy than what the series is evolving to (also, folklore in Spira indicates moogle existence). Also, you actually do see a real Moogle in VII, via Gold Saucer. Though even if you would like to decide those are just toys or machines, you see a Moogle riding Choco (via the summon). You also see one via Caith Sith's limit break dancing to heal the party. And if you consider post-VII games canon, you see a Moogle in Crisis Core as a summon.

It isn't just the moogles anyways, they are just part of the reason. If you have seen the movie and if material from the trailers has been seen, the "fantasy" element is quickly disappearing from the FF series. It is reminding me of XIII's rather radical changes/ending to the series as a whole, which was a huge disappointment to me. It just seems like the more I see of this game, the more I see is different from the series. Or I guess I should say it is getting hard to recognize it as "Final Fantasy".

I still don't really get this. There's still plenty to indicate fantasy from the pre-release material. There's still magic (warping, weapon summoning, crystals, summons, elemental spells, the world turning to endless night) and monsters and beasts. So, is it just because of the more modern/realistic setting, or what?
