Vote in the poll to pick your favorite music genre(s). Hopefully I've covered most of the bases, haha.

As for me, its a tie between Punk, Alternative and Hip Hop.

Yeah, I never could really get into metal, but I do like the old Linkin Park, even though they aren't really "true metal."[DOUBLEPOST=1348014674][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, damn. I forgot to put Classical music up in there. lol How could I forget?

    >Jazz/Funk/Blues

._. You really gonna tack on 3 different music genres into one category?

Gonna say Classic Rock and Jazz though. The other categories are wonky.

Pop punk, it's the only genre where I feel like the musicians are as awkward as the people listening to it. It's easy to relate to, there's always songs about me, from every band that I listen to, and it makes me feel like I'm not the only one out there that has the problems that I do, it makes me feel like a person.

They're all old-timey. SO THEY BELONG TOGETHER.

I picked a lot of things up there. My favorite genres are anything that involves a guitar. As long as it isn't country. Though I'm really a metalhead deep at heart. Especially if it's progressive metal...or rock. I play a lot of classical music though. >>

They're actually used interchangeably most times, so why not?

    What makes you say taht?[DOUBLEPOST=1348342331][/DOUBLEPOST]
Haha, I know where you're coming from, but I think most of regular punk is like that, not just pop punk.

I listen to both genres, as they are both my favorite, but pop punk is more about inner/emotional feelings than a 'give 'em hell' attitude and hating your dad/government.

They are not interchangeable. They might have influenced one another, but by no means are they similar.

    Jazz:

    Funk:

    Blues:

Whoever told you they can be used interchangeably is a ****ing idiot.

The first one sounds more folk-ish than Jazz to me. But whatever. I just think they're similar enough that if one person liked one of the three genres, then they'd be sure to like the other two, but that's obviously just a generalization.[DOUBLEPOST=1348350318][/DOUBLEPOST]
I see where you're coming from, but regular punk is so much more engaging then most of these pop-punk bands these days using pitch-correction, using too much synth, and are trying too hard to be the next Blink 182 (whom I love, btw). I just don't really like pop-punk when its more pop than it is punk.

    What are you talking about?

The Wonder Years is fantastic, and I've seen them live, they sound almost the same as on their album, no crappy All Time Low/fall Out Boy nonsense, and Handguns is really good too, so is Fireworks, Real Friends is brand new, they're not really on a label, so they're recording is godawful, but they're pretty great, and then Mixtapes, Transit, Saves the Day, Man Overboard, there are plenty of good pop punk bands out there, you don't get punk anymore, so you have to make do, but I'm hardly complaining.

Punk is dead, it's been dead for awhile now, and I listen to a few old punk bands still, like NOFX and Descendents, but saying that most pop punk bands these days try too hard to be the next blink-182 is wrong, there are plenty that do, and I know for a fact that All Time Low directly copies blink all the time, but not every band is ATL, and just because they suck balls, doesn't mean every other pop punk band is like that.

I don't deny any of this.

    WOAH DERE.

FIDLAR, Japandroids, Ty Segall, Cerebral Ballzy and Dope Body would all like to have a word with you. Disco is dead, but punk ain't.

I know. That's why I used the word MOST. Maybe the word "some" would've been more appropriate.

Sure, there are those that don't fit into what I described, but the genre is kinda over-saturated with the type of music that I described in the previous post. And if not over-saturated, then the ones that try to go with that formula are the ones that get the most recognition, if you know what I mean.

After being in String Ensembles and Orchestras for about a decade, I've really come to appreciate classical music. Right now, I'm digging some Operas like The Magic Flute, La Boheim (sp?), and the original Aida.
I more so have a selective set of specific artists, rather than genres. Usually when I am with other people and friends, I don't mind at all what type of music they would play.

However, if I had to choose, I would pick R&B, Jazz, overall Asian Pop, Experimental, and Musicals.

    Oh hello music thread.
I chose metal. Preferably melodic death metal. But I like power, black, thrash, melodic/symphonic, gothic, doom, progressive, and folk metal too. Probably missed one.
    also I don't consider Nu-metal or metalcore metal :x

Honestly, My favorite music is Country and Nu metal. But having to choose is just saddening. I guess I have to go with what I have lived with all my life... Country.

I'm a metal kind o' guy myself. More specifically, I prefer Symphonic or Metalcore. Leaning more toward the former. I like the feeling of epic that Symphonic Metal can give if done right.
