    As Samuel stepped back and started thinking about how to go about things, the thing they were fighting seemed to ignore him. That was good, though he could think and plan on the move, he would rather not have to. With his planning done, Samuel took his next step in the battle, actually fighting. He needed to keep on his feet, keep moving and that way there was the least chance of taking damage. That being said Samuel decided to use his skills in martial arts over anything else. It should be an effective start, and maybe later he could settle back to using his throwing stars or something.

    Tessa stumbled and turned back. It was almost as if her attack hadn't counted, but she shook her head, putting a hand to it before letting it fall. That would be crazy. But then again, this Tower had done some crazy things. She curled her hands into fists and darted at Sans again, using Martial Arts.

    Remy felt himself tiring, but pure exhaustion and weakness was a ways off yet. He glanced back to see that Alexis was protected by the strange fellow. Ah, who was he kidding, they were all strange. He was so distracted he didn't realize his attack hadn't counted, somehow. But Remy was a persistent fellow, and he attacked again with his Bo Staff.

    Kara was just about to feel the beautiful precision of an attack landed when she felt herself freeze. She couldn't even move her fingers, or her toes. Momentary panic set in, quickly replaced by anger. She kept her eyes on the enemy, promising seven kind of different hells for him after she was freed. No one did this to Kara Jereigns and lived.

    Shane Ware had never made it to the next floor. He'd gotten halfway up the staircase, each step pushing him further and further towards his destination and ultimately decreasing his stability. He hadn't shown it to anyone, in fact he'd barely acknowledged it himself, but slowly his dark side was making it to the surface. He knew it, had known for a while, but there was very little he could do about it.

    It's your fault

    He knew exactly what his subconsciousness was trying to do. It wanted him to give in, it wanted him to relinquish control so that his true power could emerge. If that happened, he would never have any problems again, he'd be powerful enough to tear apart anything that ever threatened to him, and everything that didn't. Nobody would be safe, he wasn't going to have another incident.

    They would be safe. The people caught in it, no further harm would come to them. The dead feel no pain.

    He knew what it was referring to. The people that had been killed, not in an accident but by his hands. He could still remember feeling backed up against a wall, being pressured by the people to use his powers to benefit them. He could feel their greedy stares bearing down upon him, attempting to force him into doing something he had promised himself never to do.

    You can also feel their agony, the pain that you caused. You can hear the screams, the unending screams of despair and torture as all humanity was ripped from them at the same time as their mind was torn apart.


    It was right. He had done it, he had killed them. What made it worse was a small part of him had enjoyed it, and he knew that. Those people had had everything taken from them in an instant. It was the first time Shane had forced himself into his Darkside View, and it was the day he had opened up another side of him. A side that had always been there, but had always laid dormant. But after that day it had been dormant no longer, always a sneaking voice in the back of his mind.

    He turned and began heading back down the stairs, one hand on his now throbbing head and the other on the walls of the narrow staircase so as to stabilise himself. He was going back, he was leaving. It had been a mistake to come here, a mistake to test himself. The stronger he got, the stronger the voice got, and the harder it became to resist. He was slowly losing himself, and he had only sped up that process.

    Shane made it to the bottom of the staircase and over to the one that lead to the floor below before he finally collapsed, one knee keeping him up. His head hurt so much. This power inside of him was pushing to be released, and it would not take no for an answer. He could hold it back, he was sure of it. He had to, he wasn't going to hurt anyone else if he could help it. He wasn't going to let anyone else wind up like R-

    She trusted you. She believed in you, saw you for who you really were, and accepted you. And you repaid her by torturing her emotionally, creating memories that weren't there and then finally frying her brain, killing her.

    No, it was wrong. The voice was wrong, it had to be. It had been an accident, she knew that...didn't she? He hadn't known how to use his powers, he'd been forced into something he hadn't wanted, and she'd paid the price. But he hadn't meant to, he hadn't! He would never hurt her!

    No, you didn't hurt her. You murdered her. You're the reason she's dead!

    At this, Shane began clutching his head as tears began flowing down his face which was now twisted in silent agony. After a moment, he could hold it in no longer. He broke down completely. "GET OUT OF MY HEAD! GET OUT, GET OUT, GET OUT!!" he screamed, not a trace of his usually calm composure remaining. He wanted to do anything to stop the voice, to silence it forever, but he couldn't. No matter what he did, it was part of his subconsciousness, and no amount of powerful mind reading was going to change that.


    Shane Ware couldn't manage it, but maybe someone else would have better luck.

    Shane began drawing upon every last reserve of energy he had, focusing every ounce of his telepathy on himself. He saw every memory he had ever experienced, every bit of joy and every bit of sadness, anger and hurt. Every emotion he'd ever felt, everything that was in his mind that made him who he was. As he passed each one, he erased it; reconstructing his memory as he went along. He began bashing his head against the wall as he did so, the internal pain becoming unbearable for him, but he couldn't stop.

    Finally he came to his most precious memory. His most precious one, and also his most hated one. The memory of that night. The night everything had changed. He remembered her confessing her love to him, he remembered the feeling of joy but also the feeling of guilt as he had told her that he didn't care about her in that way. That was about ten minutes before the others had tried to exploit him. She'd gone to comfort him and try to stop the others, she'd been the only one who had cared, and she'd been the first to die.

    "I'm...I'm sorry Raina. I'm not strong enough. I wasn't then, and I'm not now" the telepath said, his voice breaking under the emotional pressure he was putting on himself. He had loved her, he just hadn't known it at the time. He'd never had the chance to tell her, and he never would. It was one of many regrets he had, but it was the biggest. He worked his magic, and that memory like the others was gone. He had a clean slate, a new opportunity to start his life, but not while he knew what he had done. With a last surge of power, Shane used his memory reconstruction to erase all the memories he had of the tower, including the one he had just created, before he lost himself to the realm of unconsciousness, passing out there and then on the cold, hard floor of the tower of power.


    The boy woke up, his body and mind aching all over. He didn't move, didn't get up. He couldn't remember a thing. He could only remember three words, constantly echoing inside his empty mind. A repetition of 'Shane, get out'. Was he Shane? He had no idea, but that was all he had to go off of. As for the last part, that one was simple enough. He had to escape, apparently. Getting up slowly, he began walking down the staircase before him, heading down it as he made his way to the exit. He would continue this process until he made his way to the very bottom, where he would at last leave the Tower of Power behind him.

    Oscar had made his way down and out of the tower. Each step he took away from his brother was a challenge in itself. As much as he hated to admit it, he needed his brother as much as Samuel needed him. His brother helped keep him focused and on task, and while Oscar was reckless his brother was careful, often planning out the most efficient strategy for everything. And yet, despite all this, Samuel could not follow; not where Oscar was going.

    He was going back. Samuel needed to grow on his own without his older brother constantly being there, he needed to become the man he ought to be, not the boy relying on the protection of his older brother. More than that though was the other need that the swordsman had ignored. He'd been running for a very long time from it, never stopping in one place too long in the hopes eventually he could outrun time itself. He was the reason for his town's death, and he hadn't told Samuel that, but it hadn't been him alone. The one who had forced him to use the mask, the one who had threatened to destroy everything he held dear if he hadn't given into his foe's demands, that was who he had been running from. He'd had enough of running, he was going to fix things himself.

    "I'm coming, Vex" he said quietly as the rain outside of the tower continued pouring down onto him, his face a perfect picture of grim determination.

    Remy was getting frustrated, but kept his cool, and used his Explosive Inducement.

    Kara was growing increasingly angry, and couldn't wait to get out of this frozen prison. They would all pay.

    Tessa nearly screamed, before using her martial arts again. They hadn't had an enemy that was this frustrating and over powered, as her health slowly drained away. She wasn't sure she would make it if the battle didn't turn in their favor, soon.
