Will of Fire

"Kyuu!!" Wizard ran down the stairs, headed for Rei.

Hiwatari held up his hand and a bright barrier arose, separating himself, Akito and Rei from Wizard.

Dai caught up with Wizard and pulled him back before he crashed into the barrier.

Rei's head tilted to the side, his breathing shallow.

Hiwatari approached Rei and placed a foot on his chest. "So the Black Wings has fallen...? This will be true soon enough; finish him." He told Akito.

"No!" Dai shouted. "Stop please! Don't hurt him any more!"

"You have no say in this." Hiwatari took his foot off Rei and stepped back. "Do it."

 

Akito looked over at Dai and Wizard before looking back down at Rei. He hesitated. I... can't... He thought but then pulled out one of his longswords. No... I have to... He thought and rose his sword over Rei.

Becky managed to dodge the arrows and flew towards the Hiwatari's house as quick as she could. Her antennas twitched again, but more than last time. Rei... Kairuto... She hoped that she wasn't too late.

Shoot! Akari thought and ran after Becky.

 

Dai pounded on the barrier. "Akito-kun don't!" She begged. "Don't!!"

"Silence." Hiwatari looked over at Dai. "You are a disgrace."

Dai ignored her father. "Rei-san wake up!" She yelled.

Wizard hit the barrier with his paw. "Kyuu!" He pulled back, the barrier too strong for him.

Panzela had been clutching Anthony to her while Becky flew them to the house. She let him go but kept a hold of his hand. "Anthony, I'm taking you home and then coming back here." she started running, keeping at his running pace, "I can't tell you what to tell your mom, but... just be careful." she suggested, while they ran.

 

Akito looked at Dai and then closed his eyes. He quickly brought the sword down onto Rei.

Once they had landed, Becky felt a sudden, sharp pain in her chest. She gasped and put her hand over her heart. Tears immediately fell from her eyes. That feeling... just now... She thought and quickly ran inside the house.

Akari ran right behind Becky. She stopped when she saw Panzela and Anthony separate from them. Hmm... She grinned as she got an idea.

Anthony nodded, running quickly with Panzela.

 

A sheild of black magic blocked the sword and Rei rolled over, coughing up blood.

"Rei-san!" Dai had thought he had been killed for sure; relief flooded her.

Becky ran into the house and stabbed a small staff made from aura into Akito's back, angrily. "You get away from Rei!" She said.

Akito let out a yell as he felt the staff pierce his back. Becky...

 

Wizard jumped on Dai's shoulder, lending her his magic.

Dai pounded on the barrier again, shattering it. She ran over to Rei and knelt by him. "Rei-san.... Are you okay?"

Rei's wings faded, leaving a few feathers on the floor. He wiped the side of his mouth and sat up, wincing. "Define okay." He said with a half smile.

 

Becky looked over at Rei, tears falling down her cheeks. D*mnit... I should've been here sooner... She thought and turned back to Akito, angry. She quickly ran forward, slashing the sharp staff at him again.

Akito jumped back. He could feel the blood running down his back. He reluctantly took out his longswords.

 

Dai smiled too. "Rei-san, I-"

"Really would like to see you dead." Megumi emerged, holding Rei by the throat and standing. "And now that you're like this, it'll be easy."

Rei's chest grew tight as he tried to draw in air. "Care to bet on that?" He choked out.

 

Becky slashed furiously at Akito again, tears running down her cheeks. "Traitor!" She shouted. Even though she had known that Akito was on the Hiwatari's side, she'd thought of him as a friend, until he did this.

Akito didn't have time to react to the hit and fell to the ground. He looked up at Becky, feeling a growing pain in his stomach. Becky... The word "traitor" hurt him, especially coming from Becky's mouth. He stood up. I've got to focus... I'm not on her side anymore, and she's hurt inside... He smirked, noticing the weakness.

 

"You're in no position to make jokes." Megumi tightened her grip.

Rei winced. His right arm hung uselessly at his side, still dripping blood. He moved his left to try to pry Megumi off him.

"You're quite the hero." Megumi smirked and threw Rei into the wall.

 

When they finally reached the house Panzela slowed down. "I'll call you to tell you what happened." she promised, hugging him breifly. "Go on in now."

 

Rei hit the wall, making cracks in it. He slid to the ground, unable to move.

Megumi laughed. "So this is what has become of the great Black Wings? He is weak!"

Rei stirred. Dai-chan wanted to say something... Just for that, I've got to keep going... He stood shakily, placing a hand on the wall for support.

"You want more?" Megumi smirked. "You asked for it!" She sent white feathers at Rei.

 

Becky jumped in front of Rei, blocking the feathers from hitting him.

 

"No!" Rei moved Becky and stood in front of her, facing her, some of the feathers striking his back. He kept his hands on Becky's shoulders. "Don't ever... do that... again...." He said between breaths.

Megumi laughed. "A hero indeed! Near death and he still wills his body to move!"

 

Becky looked at Rei. "R-Rei..." Tears fell down her cheeks. "You're in no condition to fight! Let me help!" She said, gripping the staff.

Anthony nodded and hugged her before running inside.

Akito smirked. He gripped the handles of his doubleswords tightly.

 

"Kairuto... said not to...." Rei's vision blurred. "Just go... before you're hurt..."

"Move or I'll strike you both!" Megumi threatened.

 

Becky shook her head and gave a small smile. "I can't do that..." She said, forming the aura staff into a sword. "You guys need help, whether you think you do or not!" She turned to face Megumi, gripping the sword tightly.

 

Megumi spread her wings. "So you've chosen death as well. I can work with that."

Rei turned around. "Just try it! I dare you!" The feathers dropped from his back, trailing blood with them.

"Rei... Neesan's right... We can't do this much longer... And you can't use that technique again for a while..." Kairuto said.

"Heh, I know that..." Rei locked eyes with Megumi.

Kairuto didn't understand. "Then why-"

"I've got my reasons." Rei's hands glowed with black magic. "You'll understand sooner or later. For your sake, I hope later..."

"What do you mean by that?" Kairuto asked.

Rei ignored Kairuto's question and fired magic blasts at Megumi.

Megumi flew upwards. "You've got no energy left. You expect that to do something?"
