Will of Fire

"Just now..." Becky said to Kairuto and pulled her hands back. "Yeah..." she said to Panzela and picked Kairuto up, walking back towards their house.

 

Panzela took Dai to her house and walked into the study. "Sir, what are you going to do with Dai now that she isn't the White Wing's Tamer?" she asked, bordering on being blunt and treating him as her boss.

 

"Nothing." Hiwatari said plainly.

Kairuto shut his eyes. "Why did you stay...?"

 

Panzela bit her lip, "You are going to take care of her, aren't you? As a daughter if not as your precious tamer?... Sir." Ah, that wasn't a good way of saying it. Oh well... I'll deal.

 

"Maybe." Hiwatari paid no particular attention to Dai or Panzela.

 

Panzela took a deep breath, "Not good enough, sir. Are you going to care of her or not?"

 

"Hold you tongue." Hiwatari said, slightly irritated. "Leave her in her room. You're dismissed."

 

Panzela stood still and looked him in the eye, "No. Are you going to take care of her. I'm sorry, sir, but I don't believe you will and I don't want to leave her here if you won't."

 

"You're out of line. If you want to keep this job, do as you're told." Hiwatari ordered.

 

Panzela shifted her weight to support Dai more comfortably, "Sir, I need this job, you know that. But, but I care for Dai too much to leave her with you if you won't take care of her. Will you take care of her or not?" she didn't take her eyes from him and kept her face blank, although her thoughts and emotions were racing.

 

"You're not that useful anyway." Hiwatari kept a straight face. "Your days working for this house are done."

 

Panzela turned around and walked out with Dai still on her shoulders. "Fine, the only reason I worked for you was because you pay the best anyway. Your too much like my parents, you'll go to hell like them too." she called over her shoulder. Walking down the street, tears streamed down her face until she got into her house. She set Dai down on her bed and sat down down on a chair. Watching Dai, she hugged her picture of her brother. "Too much like my parents." she muttered, wiping the tears from her face.

 

Dai groaned. "... Where am I...?"

 

Panzela set the picture down and went over to the bed. "Your in my house. I don't trust your father to take care of you without Megumi in you. I hope you don't mind me taking you here. You can go home if you want..." she sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at the wall.

Dai's head was throbbing. "Wait... Who's Megumi? And who are you?" She sat up. What's going on?

 

Becky looked straight forward as she continued to walk. "I stayed because I didn't want to see you hurt..." she said. "Even though I just got in the way... I thought that I might be able to protect you if anything happened..." She looked down at the ground. "I thought you said that you weren't going to be doing any fighting... you lied just to make me feel better... didn't you...?" she asked, a bit upset. He didn't want me to go because he thought I'd get hurt... I can take care of myself... I'm not 5 anymore... she thought, a bit of anger and sadness building up inside of her.

 

"Things changed.... That wasn't supposed to happen...." Kairuto groaned. "We didn't want to fight...."

 

"Even so... you didn't let me know that there would be a chance of fighting at all... why wouldn't you let me go with you...? I could've been there sooner to help..." She said and looked up as they arrived back at the house. "I don't like to see you hurt, Kairuto... so why wouldn't you let me go...? Just in case...?"

 

"We were just gonna... scout out their house...." Kairuto stood, putting a hand on the door for support. "But... Megumi used the scroll... before we could even leave..." He was still breathing heavily. "And Dai-chan...."

 

"What scroll...?" Becky asked and then her eyes suddenly widened. "Wait... what happened to Dai-chan...?" she asked, helping him inside and closing the door behind them.
