Kairuto slowly and carefully let go of Becky's wrists. "Yes. Are you okay?"

 

Becky blinked, getting back into reality. She was still breathing heavily. "I... I guess so..." She said.

 

Kairuto wiped Becky's tears. "What was it?"

 

Becky looked down. "I... I'm not sure..." She replied. "Something was chasing me... I couldn't tell what it was..." She suddenly looked at her arm and rubbed it gently with her hand. "But it didn't exactly feel good when whatever it was caught me..." She sighed and noticed she was trembling.

 

Kairuto hesitantly embraced Becky. "It was just a dream." He assured her quietly.

 

Becky hugged him back, tightly, now crying. She knew it was just a dream, but it seemed more real than anything she had ever experienced. "Kairuto..."

 

"Yeah?" Kairuto asked, not raising his voice.

 

"Please be careful..." She said softly, not releasing her hold on him.

 

Kairuto had to smile. "When am I not? We'll be fine. You don't have to worry. Trust me; when this is all over, you'll still have both of us."

 

"Just, please... promise me..." Becky said and looked up at him. "I know you think that's true, but you can't be sure..." She clenched her fists.

 

"Trust me." Kairuto repeated.

 

Becky looked him in the eyes. "Why can't you promise me...?" She asked him softly.

 

Kairuto moved away from Becky and stood with his back to her. "Because I won't be able to keep it."

 

Becky stood up. "Kairuto, you just told me you'd both be alright after this!!" She exclaimed, clenching her fists.

 

"But I can't promise I'll be careful about it." Kairuto turned around, smiling.

 

Becky sighed. "All right..." She said softly and smiled back. "Then promise me you'll both make it back after this..."

 

"I promise." Kairuto said.

"That can't happen." Rei's voice was quiet.

Kairuto's smile faded. "Go back to sleep. We've got school tomorrow." He left, shutting Becky's door quietly. "What do you mean it can't?"

"Once Megumi is gone, I will be too." Rei explained. "It just has to be that way."

"Why didn't you tell me this before? Now I've made a promise I can't keep." Kairuto walked back to his room.

 

Becky nodded. "Okay... Good night," She said and smiled as he left. She noticed he seemed suddenly upset by something, but she decided to not bother him about it. Quietly, she changed into a pair of light pink pajama pants and a hot pink, spaghetti strap shirt. Then, she silently walked down the hallway to the bathroom and began to brush her teeth.

 

Kairuto slammed his door out of frustration. "Rei, what am I supposed to do?"

"Just tell her you didn't know." Rei responded.

"That's not what I meant!" Kairuto sighed, flopping onto his bed. "If you're gone... What'll life be for me anymore...?"

Rei was taken aback. "Well... you'll have a normal life."

"I hate normal." Kairuto mumbled.
