Why is it so damn hard for kids to play video games?

Seriously, I was watching a kid play Uncharted Drake's fortune the other day and it was just REDONKULOUS how this kid could barely get past the first obstacle in the game.
I had to break it down for him like a ****ing math problem (You have to break the floor beneath you but you don't know what to break it with. Maybe you should explore the area and find something that will help you break it)
A pretty simple problem right? Just go everywhere that you haven't gone before
But no, this kid was shooting at the ground with his gun.
That didn't work so he decided to go back the way that he came, ALL THE WAY BACK!
That didn't work so he went to the start menu and went to restart area as if he missed something
He did this and ended up back at the same obstacle once again.
I asked him "Is there anywhere you haven't been before"
He says "No, I went all the way back to the beginning of the level and there's no way to break the floor"
"Are you SURE you've tried everywhere? What about up?"
I tell him this and it takes him a good FOREVER to deduce that there is a platform that he can jump on to reach another platform to reach another platform with a rock on it to break the floor beneath him.

THIS IS THE KIND OF CHILD WHO IS SUPPOSEDLY DOING EXCELLENT IN SCHOOL AND CAN RECOGNIZE FOOTBALL PLAYS IN AN INSTANT
I could understand if this was Portal or Catherine or any other puzzle game
But this is the first level of a platformer, a platformer y'know like ****ING MARIO!?
What kind of world do we live in where an 8 year old can't even get past the first level of a game that DOESN'T require you to shoot the enemy that's shooting you.

 

It's just the way life is. :3

 

Because kids in this day and age grow up thinking the only video game is Call of Duty and are left completely shocked and appalled when a new game is presented to them.

 

Even I have to admit I found it a little strange at times to get through Uncharted 2. I mean, I'm pretty bad at observing, but when they get the colors right, I can never tell if something's climable or not. My friend watched me and he kept losing it because I was missing something in plain sight

 

You have to understand though, this is the first puzzle
I don't mind dieing a few times because you thought something could be climbed, that happens all the time.
But when you try it OVER AND OVER again getting the same result(death) YOU SHOULD PROBABLY TRY SOMETHING ELSE!

 

They say repetition is the foundation of humor.

Although in seriousness, I think it's because it's been mostly first person shooters these days so they're used to the old "Shooting it solves all your problems!" So when the odd game comes along that makes you THINK, they're clueless!

 

I've grown up with stuff like Zelda - Where the first answer isn't bashing something with your fists or the butt of your gun.

 

I've grown up with a lot of things like Pokemon, Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Dragoon, so I'm used to a lot of different games.

 

My little 6 year old cousin plays video games like a BOSS. He'll play Zelda and Lego games then thomp older kids in Soul Caliber, I love him.

In other words, all they know how to do is shoot everything and run in a straight line.

It needs to be said repeatedly because it doesn't involve them shooting anything, so it is hard for them to understand how much better than them we are.

 

I'm completely nodding in approval right now.

Because kids these days are obsessed with shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield that they can't appreciate what video games truly are, they decide to choose what is overrated and what their friends are talking about, they decide to choose what IGNorant gives a high review to, they don't however say to their friends what a true game is, they don't however say that Call of Duty and Battlefield are not the only games in the markets, they DON'T play anything besides shooters, kids are getting dumber and dumber each generation, when you're parents said whats wrong with our generation, they where right, what is wrong with our generation, soon all kids are going to be wiggers at school thinking its cool to wear pants all the way down, soon they'll think its cool to say "****" in each and every one of their sentences, soon they're not going to listen to their parents even more, soon we're going to get even more future parents who are not going to care, soon and I fear it has already happend, this world is going to be full of ******s, that is why, a kid cannot pass the first level on Uncharted.
