Your on a bus, coming home from school. The bus is a public but and the ones here don't have openable windows. It's crowded coz the bus goes to a number of schools, and some smart-ass decides to smoke. It's illegal anyways so while your choking there, someone is finding it funny to break the law. I had to put up with that today, it made me sick
Honestly there's nothing you can do about it >: I would've just put up with it too, as sickening as it may be. People break the law like that all the time, you could say it's the same as illegally downloading music, only difference being it immediately impacts people around them (instead of gradually impacting the artists who make the music). You could report it to some authority like... Uh... The police or bus driver maybe to crank up security on stuff like that, but it's probably not even worth the trouble. Sad but true, some people have no compassion and don't give a crap about how their actions may hurt or annoy others. So in that particular situation I'd put up with it, albeit bitterly, but I don't think there's anything else I could do, really. Causing a scene wouldn't be worth the time, energy, or risking getting kicked off of the bus. You could ask them to stop smoking, but I wouldn't as chances are if they have the nerve to do it in the first place, they won't stop with a simple request. It could escalate into something far worse in that case.
It is true, there is not much you can do in such situations. I actually have been through a situation like this at a subway. Thankfully, however, not a lot of people disobey the smoking laws in my city or neighborhood, so such cases are very rare. The laws here are rather strict and it is rather amazing how keen the surveillance is around here. In your situation, other than just dealing with the fact that he is blowing a very dangerous puff of smoke in your face, the only other reasonable thing to do here would be to politely ask him/her to stop smoking, and hope that he listens to your request. Also, you can always inform the drivers to pay more attention to what is happening in his/her bus.
I agree with this. I would just put up with it, it is only one bus journey and whilst it is not nice and it is frustrating, if you tried to do anything about it then you risk causing a scene and things could get worse than just someone smoking on the bus. Here that doesn't happen, or at least not that I have been aware of, maybe I have just been lucky. If it is something that keeps on occuring then I would report it to the driver as you're getting off the bus, but try to be discrete. Good luck :glomp:
If it's a public bus, I'd trust a member of the public to deal with it. If not, my deputy headmaster would. He's brutal on bus policy.
I wouldn't do anything. Last thing you want is an arguement to start in a crowded bus. My dad's a smoker anyway, I'm so used to the smell of smokes, that I like it unfortuently. :/
I hate smoking, and forcing people to endure it in a crowded public space is downright nasty. But there isn't much to be done, because odds are that if you challenge them about it you'll just start a fight. It's the bus drivers responsibility to stop it.
I wouldnt do anything. What could I do? I know secondhand smoke is even worse than first hand but if I really really wanted to do something about it I'd get off at the nearest stop and wait for the next bus. It sucks you had to go through that though. =/
I would tell my bus driver because you shouldn't have to put up with that. It's gross, and it can even give a person who isn't smoking cancer.
I don't think there is much he could do about it. I'd just hold my tounge and try to endure it until my stop. And if worse comes to worse I'd just get off at the next stop. And even though second hand smoking is worse than first hand smoking, it isn't likely that you'll get cancer from being in a bus with someone for a few stops anyway. And they really shouldn't think it's funny to make most of the people around them uncomfortable. Especially since it is against the law.
I hate it when people that. When I started secondary school everyone started smoking on the back of the school buses home - bad for someone like me who already has asthma from passive smoking. Surviving the 40 minute drive was painful, and thank god they stopped doing it on the second year.
I would suffer through it once, then report the incident to whatever authorities run the bus system, and hope that that would be enough. If it's not, I would probably go apeshit on the offenders next time (figuratively - first, diplomacy, then anything else). I really have no desire to die from someone else's mistake. Secondhand smoke is almost as deadly as smoking the cigarette yourself.
well it actually smells good to me i like the smoke smell but anyways i wouldnt mind but if you do then um i dont know tell him to stop and do it outside
the movie speed springs to mind butdoesnt seem to solve the stuation id get a bottle of water out of somewhere and spray the smoker like bad dog during training :D
Try to cover your nose with your shirt. If you cant provoke him intentionally, you can show your distain towards it.
me, provoke? I am the wimpiest little girl you'll ever meet. I am too nice. I didn't do anything. I just thought to myself "They'll be dead before me" wow that sounds cruel.
I know that I wouldn't have put up with that whatsoever. I am one to let my mouth run away with me in almost all situations, and with my vicious nature to back me up, I’m almost positive I would have started an argument. I don’t put up with shit from inconsiderate assholes who think it’s clever to spread that stinking shit around my air. I think – no, I know – I would have swiped it out of his hand and punched him if he didn’t put it out. I’m just that type of girl, I suppose.
hmm... in this situation i would be the one to get up and bother the driver about it, make him pull over until the guy puts the damn ciggy out... although i might be the one smokin too XD yikes... lol
I'd wait to see if his stop was nearby. If they get off within the next half-hour, it's fine, no problem. However, it it goes on long enough, I'll have to ask them to toss the cigarette.
