I usually listen to Florence and The Machine, Imogen Heap, Anberlin, or The World Ends With You OST. Usually something with powerful vocals, though.

I wish I was a neutron bomb, for once I could go off
I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on
I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on
The Christmas tree, I wish I was the star that went on top
I wish I was the evidence, I wish I was the grounds
For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky

I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me
I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good
I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood

I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun
I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on
I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on
I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down

I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up
    I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish
    I guess it never stops...

((Missed this thread entirely when new))

My music doesn't change much, but I drift over the line from punk to metal. Common Bands are

    Disturbed
    Haste the Day
    Disciple
    Decyfer Down
    Demon Hunter
    August Burns Red
    Underoath

Looking at that list I seem to also drift a bit more towards Christian music than usual. Though it is most of what I listen to anyway.

I usually try to listen to something upbeat that would make me feel happier, like Passion Pit or Tune-Yards.

Listening to something sad while I'm sad doesn't really work out for me well, hah.

Wow, a deadmau5 fan. I love Raise Your Weapon, but I dont listen to it when Im depressed.
When Im depressed, i rotate around my Linkin Park songs. Depending on how sad I am, Shadow Of the Day sometimes does the trick. Blackout is amazing, Breaking the Habit is an absolute must. If I REALLY am that depressed, than the best songs are Crawling, Faint and In The End

Usually when I'm depressed I tend to listen to Mariana's Trench. I really believe just about everyone could relate to at some point. c:

Honestly, I'll listen to about anything that's intended to be 'cheery'. I've actually put on a Chipmunk CD before when I was feeling down in the dumps. It made me feel better and I've kept a few on retainer ever since.

Sometimes though, rarely, I'll listen to downer music when I'm depressed. I know it doesn't make sense but I find that if I listen to the songs long enough it somehow kickstarts me back into a cheery mood.

Desperado puts a smile on my face any day of the week.

So basically, it's just a different variety of music depending on what kind of "down" I'm feeling, and Desperado.

Anything made by MitiS. Seriously, any one of his songs will lure you in a melodic trance. They never fail to sooth my sad/depressed moods.

I listen to any KH track (or any other track.) that has either Piano or Violin. I want to match the music and the mood....

It honestly depends on what I am upset about, it does change depending on what my favourite music is at the time. Normally I will listen to some of my favourite music and just rock out to it hoping to make myself laugh. At the moment it seems to be music from Doctor Who at the Proms because that is powerful but also "Wayward son" by Kansas because that is great to listen to loud!

I may also listen to the Les Mis soundtrack because it is quite depressing yet fabulous. I do try and listen to music that maybe describes how I am feeling, like at the moment the song "Done" by The Band Perry makes me smile because YES! But it just depends on the situation and what I love at the time.
