...It doesn't matter, "purebred" or not. You have an Irish heritage too.
You know why? You have Irish in your background.
Almost no one in America is one solid race. It's a diverse country, so the people are diverse as well.

And is it so wrong to be proud of who you are and where your ancestors came from?

It isn't so much the pride but they don't know anything about the greats in irish history like Eamon De Valera,Michael Collins,Arthur griffith.They don't even try to learn the irish Language.

You don't need to know about the country your ancestors were from in order to consider yourself that ethnicity or heritage...
Some people don't want to learn other languages, too. It's a lot of work and memorization to learn a language, and some people just don't feel like spending a lot of time (and possibly money) to learn something they may never speak because they don't live in that country.
