Didn't Obama say he would veto the **** out of it if it passes?

Which I can't see it doing. It's a violation of our first amendment rights, even if it did get through the House & the Senate, people would throw shitfits (and rightfully so). Because we live in a "democracy," the government cannot ignore that without serious consequences.

I don't think it will pass.

I had the stream on for a while and it sounds like they're having a lot of trouble getting through the amendments. It definitely sounds like it's meeting with resistance, but I don't know if the actual thing has already been passed and they're at the nitpicking phase? Honestly I know embarrassingly little about these procedures I would love it if someone could fill me in

    I don't think so either

And yes, he did state he'd veto it

I believe it's not passed yet, it's still being debated against since there are a lot of people going against it. And I think it has to go through another process of it being edited if passed

    and most likely veto'd

Bleh, I don't like repeating myself.

    It will not pass.
Even if it did, it would have NO impact on you. Moving to another server is easy.

    And axel91 posted this link:

It doesn't matter if it has no impact on you
The point is if you're American then there is currently a law being passed that violates your constitution
You know, the thing that your country was founded on?
How is this NOT a problem?

I don't know the exact parameters of the bill but even if the servers moved to a different country, the government still could filter search results & domain names, could they not?
That's obviously a lot easier to get around than the entire server being taken down, of course, but for the average person, perhaps not.

I believe the original plan was a filter, similar to that of The Great Firewall of China.

They seem to go hand in hand, don't they? An ability to indefinitely imprison people before they commit a crime and an ability to censor news.

I heard about that. The new provisions, rather. I heard about them in a highly blown-out-of-proportion way: "America can officially imprison you for no reason, pack your bags and hop the borders" etc. But yeah, that is definitely disconcerting as well, and I believe it is generating outcry of its own.

They can? The implications should be very obvious if you listen to Obama speak about it. He is instating pre-crime, says that we need to be able to detain people without trial on the basis that they may commit a crime in the future.

I am hesitant to believe this unless it's documented. And even in that case, wording like that is gonna get him in deep shit. This isn't freaking Minority Report.

I will go to Canadaland to chill with my posh bro What
