Which had already sold pretty bad for a Final Fantasy game.
Maybe this'll teach Square to not let Toriyama touch Final Fantasy anymore
Or to start working on Versus XIII
OR TO JUST MAKE A NEW GAME FOR GOD'S SAKE
REMEMBER THAT DS GAME CALLED THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU!?
REMEMBER HOW MUCH IT SUCKED AND HOW TERRIBLE IT DID IN TERMS OF SALES!?
    OH WAIT!
    IT DIDN'T!
    Dammit Square.

I plan on getting XIII-2, but I still feel like it's an unnecessary addition to the series. I think they could have poured their resources into something more important, like, I don't know... Kingdom Hearts 3? Versus XIII so it can finally be released?

Makes sense. I mean, XIII was hated a lot more after people actually played it so why would they buy the sequel?
And XIII-2 didn't seem as hyped up as XIII was.

I fear Square will head down an already bumpy road, their finances will take a hit like this, which they can't afford.

I fear they might die out, and just when I thought KH3 would be created in my lifetime! -__-

Square will be fine...they just need to start being more fan-friendly.

This will now force them to make a TWEWY sequel (good)

KH3 will probably be forced into much faster production in order to turn the mega-profit they know they will make with it.

Hell, they may even start a FFVII remake just cause they know that will make bank.

I personally love FFXIII and I will probably love FFXIII-2....and XIII-3 but I am clearly in the minority here and if Square is going to be a strong company in the new world of western RPG's they need to start being more Westernly friendly and stop making games that don't sell.

They've had financial problems already, I think during the last fiscal year they lost some 1.6 billion yen? Something obscenely high like that.
They did trademark The World Ends With You in Japan recently, though that may only be because of use in Dream Drop Distance.

But HEY. Worry not, they're re-releasing XIV within the next year!

Rumored but not confirmed. If anything we won't see it soon.

    HA

Nope, again rumored and if a remake was done someone in their official lines said they'd "change some things" which worries me greatly. Unless they mean better translation, because then by all means, have at it.

I'm going to vomit on them if they actually make a XII-3. It's really beating a dead horse at that point.

They are doing an HD remake of X though. Hopefully with better voice acting.

Maybe they could go that extra mile and make it a good game?

That's the thing, Square have made some obscenely low quality games in the last few years, according to critics and fans alike, which has in turn affected sales not only for those games, but any sequels and other games Square releases.

Once you lose faith in the brand you don't wnt to buy from them anymore. And yeah, since they've had financial troubles recently, they can't afford to lose more money, otherwise they'll start laying people off to cut back costs. In a business sense they could be in danger of flopping.

    TO BE CONTINUED

That's what I've read anyway, it might be false.

I actually think that FF12 was great, 13 wasn't too bad, and I'm sure 13-2 can't be that bad either. It's just that people expect so much because it's a game from SE on the PS3/360.

Well, I lol'ed. Especially considering all the advertising Square-Enix did. XD

Personally, I've lost faith in this game in terms of story. I'm impressed by the amount of sales if it wasn't a FF game. But it is. So it underperformed. What can you do? -.-'

That sums up how I feel about some of this. I rather liked every Final Fantasy game I've played. I was glad I rented instead of buying X but I don't regret playing it. But if it was released under a different name and preferably by a different company people would likely think highly of them. But Square Enix and the Final Fantasy series both give people these high expectations that they simply can't deliver continuously enough.

On XIII-2 specifically, I am likely to submit a pre-order after Christmas when my budget evens out more. XIII I felt had a nice plotline, it was just very linear and rather easy most of the time. I find that universe to be interesting and it sounds to me like they fixed those issues some, can't judge before I play it though.

I liked the look of XIII-2 when it was announced at January. Lightning and Caius, simple enough. Time passed, and when the storyline was going to revolve around time travel, I knew this game's story was screwed. It's Motomu Toriyama. He did a good job at X, X-2 and a decent job at XIII's story, but considering how suckish T3B's story was for me, I knew the story wasn't going to be good here.
    Time travel isn't his forte.

    So, yeah....toriyama'd

People got XIII for the characters (Lightning was hot to guys and Snow was pretty buff to ladies) and Square needs to learn their damn lesson on letting a game just die!

    Do they even remember versusXIII?
    The World Ends With You?
    Kingdom Hearts 3?

Or just make XV and move the hell on! XIII is an unlucky number, and they need to let it die out gracefully instead of pulling it through hell and back before death.

Square needs to start working on doing more house keeping within itself. I feel like this is a problem with the teams.

They are super great and wonderful...but they are losing their relevancy.

Bring in some new fresh minds, try keeping the old feeling while still pushing forward.

That sounds vague but maybe stop making shitty MMO's?

I think you might have messed up on the title, Jubes. Apperantly it sold less than FFIII did. On the FAMICON.

    Final Fantasy I (1987, NES) - 400 000
Final Fantasy II (1988, NES) -
    Final Fantasy III (1990, NES) - 619 491
    Final Fantasy IV (1991, SNES) - 182 435
    Final Fantasy V (1992, SNES) - 472 523
    Final Fantasy VI (1994, SNES) - 1,258,668
    Final Fantasy VII (1997, PSX) - 2025834
    Final Fantasy VIII (1999, PSX) - 2592405
    Final Fantasy IX (2000, PSX) - 2031207
    Final Fantasy X (2001, PS2) - 1,906,152
    Final Fantasy XI Online (2002, PS2) - 70,016
    Final Fantasy X-2 (2003, PS2) - 1,561,553
    Final Fantasy XII (2006, PS2) - 1,819,872
    Final Fantasy XIII (2009, PS3) - 1,508,558
Final Fantasy XIII Ultimate Hits International (2010, Xbox 360) - 8849
    Final Fantasy XIII-2 (2011, PS3) - 525,271
    Final Fantasy XIII-2 (2011, Xbox 360) - 10 000

I mean, it was a given that it would sell less than FFXIII, that would be a bit of a non-statement.
