Welcome to Death

As the doors opened, Chaol took notice of the area. It was a warehouse, full of many boxes and pathways their targets could come at them from if they decided to fight back, which meant only one thing. "Move to the boxes to the left; that door wasn't quiet, they'd know someone is in here but they wouldn't know how many of us there are or where we are. We should use that to our advantage. Matthew, Mikio, the moment you see someone you are to jump onto them and take them out. We have the element of surprise, best not to waste it" Chaol ordered, before lining up a shot. He could see one guy on top of a pile of boxes, a fair distance away. Taking the time to aim, he let loose an arrow specifically aimed at his foe's head and watched as the arrow flew through the air, but rather than hitting the spot he'd been aiming for the arrow sunk into the man's shoulder. "Head would've been better" the assassin muttered, before racing over to join his allies at the boxes he had mentioned.

"Wow, you're really good at this," Roderick noted to Zephyr as the man used him to parry a giant hunk of rock. "A katana's gotta be easier to wield than that thing anyway, so we could probably take this zombie down easy!"

Unfortunately, the zombie took that moment to seemingly disappear, Zephyr's downward swing slicing through thin air. The tombstone hit the dirt, which appeared to have recently been disturbed...

The man had sunk into the ground and was now tunneling somewhere under the surface, ready to strike from who-knows-where.

"Right," Matthew nodded, feeling a new sense of adrenaline as he darted to the left, following Chaol's instructions. He could hear the grunt of pain from the guy Chaol had shot an arrow towards, and also the sound of people running through the stacks of boxes. He felt his heart start to race as he realized he was about to get into his first real fight...

With armed, dangerous criminals probably twice his age...

Armed only with a single claw gauntlet.

Maybe they shouldn't have rushed things... But, too late to turn back now. "Ready, Mikio?" He whispered as he neared a corner, hearing the two approach from the other side.

Zephyr let out an annoyed 'tch' sound having seen the zombie avoid his attack by going underground. The zombie was surprisingly nimble for someone that was both dead and larger than the four of them. "It'll be even easier when we can find him again." This wasn't exactly playing to his strengths at all and nothing about that made things better.

In their current situation the zombie could strike at them from anywhere or even catch them off guard. Not good, not good at all. "You two okay over there?" A simple question, one filled with concern for his teammates. A simple question that was followed by the zombie rising up from the ground next to him. Having no time to react Zephyr was left unable to act as tombstone was slammed into his gut and as a result before ducking back underground while Zephyr himself was sent flying and right into a tree that was fortunately happened to be there. It was impressive that he managed to keep his grip on his weapon.

As the door opened, adrenaline kicked in as they quickly fired their first arrow at the newly appeared enemy, though it was troubling that they could not currently see all the enemies they were fighting. The arrow hit the enemy in the shoulder, which wasn't bad for their first shot but it worried her were Chaol was aiming as it appeared he was aiming for the head. "You were aiming for the head? Aim for the body, bigger target and more chance of hitting. Lots more organs you could get around there even if you miss. A non-fatal hit is better than going for a fatal shot and missing entirely. We can't afford to get cocky and lose this fight." She spoke calmly through their mental link so that the enemies could not hear her. "I'll aid you with aiming. But do not lower me to prepare your next shot until the arrow has completely left me, I think that's why the arrow went low, even though that turned out to be a good thing for us." Even as she said this Chaol was already moving and preparing their next shot. Hannah really wanted to be helpful in this fight and not lost to some inanimate guns.

"Y-yeah, sounds like a plan," Zoey panted in response to Dana. "Thanks Zephyr!" she called. Before she had a chance to move, the zombie disappeared underground. Zoey was ready this time, keeping her feet planted on the ground and feeling the vibrations, watching the purple soul with her Soul Sight carefully as it moved underground. Surprisingly, it was going away from her and to- "ZEPHYR! WATCH OUT-" But it was already too late and her peer had been hit square on by the zombie. But the zombie was distracted. Zoey gripped Dana and started to charge straight towards danger.

The zombie sensed movement and swung his tombstone right at Zoey. In slow motion, Zoey let legs collapse and slide on the ground, bending herself completely backwards as if she was playing Limbo. She felt the stone barely above her nose and held her breath, waiting for the object to pass over and her to slide to the other side of the swing. Once she saw the edge of the tombstone leave her line of vision, Zoey stabbed the staff spear side down and then used the momentum to pull herself up. She was doing a half-turn in the air, finally bringing her legs down on the zombie and gave him a hefty kick in the back.

Mikio tensed in his weapon form when he heard the commotion. The battle had begun, and all he could do was be patient and alert for Matthew so he wouldn't get seriously hurt. 'Ready when you are,' Mikio thought in their mind connection.

"Zephyr! Are you okay!?" Roderick asked, feeling concern for his partner. "That was a bad hit! Can you stand?"

​

"RGH!" The zombie grunted at Zoey's attack, stumbling back and then turning to face her once again. "You students are more trouble than you're worth! Why fight death, death releases you from all your old fears and worries. So accept your death with grace!" With that, he gripped the tombstone, swing it back over his head, and then with one quick movement, throwing it. It sailed through the air, much faster than one would think a tombstone could travel, straight towards Zoey.

As Matthew rounded the corner, he immediately ducked, glad for his still-short stature, as the man - Clyde - who had swung at the sight of bright red completely missed, his balance wavering as he'd swung over Matthew's head. Matthew took advantage of the man's distraction to try to jab at his stomach with Mikio, succeeding. Clyde let out a gasp of pain, pulling away.

"You brat!" He growled, moving to attack Matthew again, this time aiming more correctly, as the woman with him - Bonnie - also stepped forward, the two rushing towards Matthew, who swung the claw gauntlet once to slow them down, and then turned, darting back down the aisle of boxes to hopefully use his speed and agility in order to gain an advantage.

William let out a hiss as he pulled the arrow from his shoulder, ducking back down behind the boxes. They had a range attacker... He had to play this smarter. Turning back around, he knelt down behind a box, balancing his gun on top of it and taking aim at the archer in the doorway. But just as he was about to pull the trigger, Blanche and Buck stepped into the shot, rushing at the archer from his right-hand side. Well great, now he had to wait for a clear shot again. With his shoulder injured, he had to be far more careful with his shots...

"I've...been...better." Zephyr said between coughs. The impact from both the tombstone and the tree had left him in a bit of a daze so he could barely register what it was that the zombie had said to them. A couple of blinks later and his eyesight had refocused, revealing that the zombie had tossed the tombstone towards Zoey. This had left it unarmed and its back was turned to him so as soon as Zephyr was able to get back onto his feet, he charged towards the zombie and attacked with a horizontal strike.

Blake stayed silent for a moment as she let Kuro handle the battle. An image of her had shown up on the blade speaking out to Kuro. "Let's get this over with so we can head back and sleep. I have wounds I have to stitch up later." The image faded as she handed the control back to Kuro once more.

Zoey felt a rush of air heading her way and moved out of the way, jumping back and doing a half-flip, landing on her hands and then pushed off the ground to land back on her feet. She grasped Dana tightly in her hands and swung down, turning to face Sid, only seeing that he disappeared once more. "Crap..."

​

The ground underneath Zoey rumbled and she jumped out of the way, right when Sid popped out of the ground and grabbed for his headstone, wielding it once more. He left Zephyr behind, ready to fight the blind meister and try to knock her down. "What's the matter?! You need to understand each other better! Technicians and weapons have completely different 'wavelengths'."

Zoey winced as he swung his tombstone down. She blocked it, only to stumble back from the sheer force. She barely stood up before he tried to swing again and she rolled away, standing up. "Why are you trying to give us advice?!" Zoey demanded, swiveling on her feet to face him.

"I've always been an educationally enthusiastic eager educator!!!" He swung at her again, completely knocking her down before he jumped up in the air towards Zephyr. "That's the kind of guy I was!"

Once again the zombie had retreated underground right as Zephyr attacked and once again Zephyr let out an annoyed groan in respond to that. The fact that it could quickly dig underground was one thing, but when it kept happening right as he attacked. That was when he got annoyed. His pursuit of the zombie continued when Zephyr saw him again try to attack Zoey however the pursuit was stopped short when it had turned attention away from her and towards him after having jumped into the air. Despite being in the air, it had already prepared for another attack by swinging the tombstone down towards him. At the speed it was thrown, dodging was his only option and even then it was still a close shave with the tombstone being only a few feet away from him as he remained on the ground from his dodging attempt.

With a quick nod Kuro was the one to make the first move by swinging the scythe towards the mafia bosses head. In response, he ducked out of the way of the attack and retaliated by firing his gun. A scythe wasn't the best of weapons to try to block nor deflect bullets so Kuro quickly rolled out of the way of the shots and hide behind one of the pieces of furniture while the mafia boss continued to shoot at them.

Blake continued to watch her partner as he continued to block and strike at the Mafia boss as the Mafia boss did the same against Kuro.

Kuro waited til the gunshots had stop before making his next move. A quick jump over the chair and he dashed towards the mafia boss, another swing aimed towards his head. Surprisingly he was able to not only dodge the swipe, but reload his gun at the same time. It was an impressive feat to say the least, however there was no feeling of being impressed for the gunshots resumed and being in an ill spot in terms of getting to cover, Kuro had to make do by quick dodging and block the attacks as best he could.

Blake continued as the battle raged on. It seemed as though it was gonna be endless. Blake looked as Kuro continued to block and deflect the gunshots. Blake's voice echoed a bit as she spoke to Kuro. "See if you can get into his blind spot!! You might be able to strike him more easily there!" Blake went silent once she was done speaking so Kuro can continued to concentrate.

"Good idea." Kuro said once he was able to put some space between himself and the mafia boss. Frontal attacks weren't working out for him, even if he tried attacking while he was reloading his gun. The guy certainly didn't look like he would put up this much of a fight, even with his glasses on. "Wait, his glasses." Bingo, that's how he'd get in his blind spot and hopefully bring an end to this fight.

Blake watched on as Kuro take her suggestion, as they entered the Mafia boss' blind spot, it seemed as if this fight would end now. "Now Kuro!!!" Blake shouted at Kuro, hoping this would be the end of their mission.

Once more Kuro stepped forward while their target was reloading their weapon, but this time he flipped the table to obstruct his vision. This gave Kuro a good couple of second before he decided to start firing through the table, thus before he could do that, the scythe was swung once more cutting through both the table and their target's neck. By the time the table had hit the ground, all that was left of their target was his soul floating for Blake to devour.

Blake smiled as the fight finally ended. Her weapon form had begun to glow as she transformed back into her human form. She walked up to the soul and brought it up to her mouth as she swallowed the soul. A sigh of relief had escaped her lips before a smile appeared on her face. She turned toward Kuro as she walked up to him. "Good job partner!! I think it's safe to say we're done!!" Blake smiled as she spoke. The smile didn't last too long as the graze on her side from the bullet stung once more. Blake dropped to her knees as she grabbed her sides. "Remind me to bandage this up when we get back, alright Kuro?"

Listening to what Hannah was saying, Chaol readied another arrow and took in his surroundings. Matthew and Mikio seemed to be fighting nearby, and though he wanted to aid them he knew that if they left the sniper alone for too long, they would get taken out pretty quickly in all likelihood. "I wasn't getting cocky, I was taking the quicker approach to eliminating the target, thinking I could make the shot. Clearly I was wrong, I won't be when next I try it" the boy responded through the mental link with his weapon partner. However, before he could take another shot at the sniper, Blanche and Buck charged towards him from the side. Instinctively, Chaol turned and fired the arrow straight at the chest, just as Hannah had requested. Sure enough, the arrow hit Buck in the chest, who fell on the ground and immediately pulled the arrow out in an attempt to rejoin his comrades quickly, only to start screaming as blood started leaking out of the wound. Chaol wasn't too knowledgeable on arrow wounds, but it looked pretty severe, maybe even fatal. The eyes of Blanche widened in silent horror. These were just kids, how could they do that to her friend? (If anyone wants to know the details of his wound, ask Midny. She paints a really, really good picture, and I promise it's not as sickening as how I worded it just now)

After the shock wore off, Blanche stepped forward and stabbed forward with the knife she was holding. Chaol's first thought was to go for the own knife that he had with him, but there wasn't enough time, so he said a quick "Sorry, Hannah" and then raised the bladed part of the bow to block the strike, before pushing back slightly, then ducking down and sweeping Blanche off her feet. Reacting quickly, he then swiftly jumped over his foe and continued running down the aisle of boxes, always aware that the sniper could be taking aim at them at any second.

 

Despite some initial bumps in the road they were able to successfully assassinate their targets, granted one of the assassination attempts turned into a brawl of sorts, but it worked out in the end. Kuro still felt bad about Blake's injury however she was still alright for the time being. "Can do." He responded, helping his partner back on her feet before they headed back to the academy.

Shortly after their return, the first thing that they did was to head towards the infirmary in order to get Blake's wound treated. The nurse that happened to be there was quick to guide Blake towards one of the beds so that she could start tending to her injury. Seeing this had Kuro feeling a little bit on the uneasy side of things. Not cause was squeamish, it was just a graze after all, more he was still feeling bad for what had happened to her.
