Welcome to Death

The joyous reaction that the woman had was a pleasant one to see. They may not have been able to keep him from killing the first three victims, including her friend, they were able to put an end to the killer's reign of terror. The kiss however had come out of nowhere and if not for the fact that she had elected to kiss Roderick, odds are Zephyr would not have responded as soon as he did. "That...that won't be necessary. We have something else that we need to do." Zephyr answered, starting to move away from the women with Roderick in tow.

 

Blake listened intently as Spirit briefed them on their mission. Their mission was to infiltrate a masquerade ball and locate a woman named Rosaline Blackthorn and a leader of a mafia that were on their kishin list. Once located, Blake and Kuro were to retrieve their souls without disturbing the party. Blake nodded as she accepted the mission. Spirit had also informed them that a limo would be waiting for them as well as Lord Death providing appropriate outfits for the ball.

-Few Hours Later-

Blake and Kuro stepped out of a portal which placed them in front of what seemed to be the Empire State building. Wearing an evening gown, lended to by Lord Death himself, she looked around her surroundings until Kuro pointed out the limo that was in front of them. "Okay, think that limo is already outside waiting for us?" Blake looked toward the limo just a little ways away from them. "It seems like it. But should we check to make sure?" Blake looked to Kuro as she asked him.

 

"Alright, let's go see then." Kuro said with a shrug. The suit that he was currently dressed in was too stuffy for his taste. He got that it was for a dress code and all, but it didn't mean that he had to like wearing it. They had gotten to the limo and with a with a simple question they were told that he would be the one that would be driving them to the ball. The power of asking questions!

~One Limo ride later~

The duo had arrived at the destination and there was already quite the crowd of people heading into the building. All of which were wearing masks of various different designs and sorts. "Well, guess it's time for us to join in on the fun as well." Kuro grabbed the mask that was given to him by Lord Death and stepped out of the now parked limo. Now instead of going on ahead to the party, he waited by the limo door for Blake to exit. They did want to fit in after all.

Hannah was apprehensive as they walked along (well carried along in her case as she was currently in bow form). Who knew what could be ahead of them, she'd never been used as a weapon in a real fight before and honestly she was quite nervous about how she would actually perform. It still weighed on the back of her mind that they were yet to create an arrow out of soul wavelength and as such they had a limited supply of arrows. Either way, they would probably coming up on their next obstacle soon provided their riddle answer was correct. Back at the last riddle she had also come to the same conclusion as Mikio pretty fast but then started to have doubts. Since the word was written backwards the maybe instead of just south it meant "south backwards", which is north? However she suspected that was just over-complicating it and South was likely right. If they ended up looping back to that riddle, she would speak up about that.

 

So she could eat as many souls as she liked and never feel the effects of it until she had 100 souls, but at that point she'd just feel powerful and wouldn't that just be great? A grin appeared on the girl's face as she turned to look at her meister buddy. "I feel fine, I bet I can make it through another mission easy peasy. Lord Death come baaaaaaaaaaaack" she called out, not actually aware of whether or not Death could hear her. Her mind quickly went back to when they'd looked at the missions, trying to remember even a single one of them. In an instant she remembered one, just one, something about a masquerade ball that sounded fun. "I wanna do the party mission, the masquerade!" she called out.


"Well, I think we can rule out the first door. A raging fire's something that could be put out, but I don't think any of us have the equipment to do it. The other two are more difficult, I think, but here's my two cents: We go for door number three. Assassins are killers, but they are contract killers and I haven't heard of anything like that going on recently, but hungry lions that haven't eaten for three years? Well, they'd be dead wouldn't they? We'll be stepping into a room of lion corpses, it's gotta be door number three" Chaol said, the answer being crystal clear for him. Whether he was right or not....well that was up to whatever riddling monstrosity was running this whole thing.​

Zoey breathed out after the details of the mission were dished out to them. Ice cream would have to wait, they were going to head out to a party. "Well, let's get to it then," she said to Dana.

~~Time Skip~~

The pair rode in a limousine. Zoey never rode in one before, and she couldn't see to care much anyways about it. But the seats felt nice, and the engine ran smoothly. She was wearing a formal dress, something Lord Death had give them. She wasn't sure of the color, but it felt nice. It could be something she could move around easily in at least. Her masquerade mask sat on her lap, ready to be placed over her blindfold. She figured it would look kind of silly, but hopefully she would blend in alright with everyone else.

"Hey Dana," she said quietly. "Since there's another team already there ahead of us, we need to be careful. We can't draw attention to ourselves... and since we already got our first soul and they probably hadn't, we might have to work with them as a team and let them get a taste. Maybe we can get another Kishin egg since there's two targets." She moved her head to glance at the blue soul and smiled a bit. "Think we can handle that?"

 

Wearing an awesome formal dress and mask, Dana in her mind was the very definition of beauty. Funnily enough, Dana wasn't the kind of girl who liked to get super dressed up, but hey when you looked that good you had to show off once in a while. Additionally, they were getting paid in souls for this thing...sort of, and she was going to a masquerade ball with her good friend, what wasn't to love? As Zoey spoke, Dana paid very close attention to her meister's words.

"Blegh....attention is awesome though, but I guess the mission comes first. Besides, I'm sure after the mission I can show off my wicked dance moves, of which I have none. How hard can it be though? All it is is moving feet in time to a rhythm, and I'm sure they'll be positively mesmerised by my beauty" she said with a slight laugh. She stopped laughing, instead just smiling as she finished with "I'll be on my best behavior. Don't worry, we got this" she reassured.​

"I knew I could count on you," Zoey said with a smile. She pulled the mask over her blindfold, tying it behind her head as the limousine seemed to be slowing down. "The only thing we really need to keep quiet about is to take out our targets without anyone knowing what's going on, avoid civilian casualties, and keep the ball running smoothy. So we might get some dance time in while we're figuring out how to do this..."

 

Blake grabbed the mask that had came with the dress that Lord Death had given her. She exited the limo as she heard Kuro speak, "Well, guess it's time for us to join in on the fun as well." Blake nodded as she placed the mask on her face. "I don't why but I have a bad feeling that we won't be the only ones hunting these souls." Blake linked her arm with Kuro before entering the ball, making sure they fit in and look inconspicuous. "I hope you don't mind Kuro. I want to make sure we fit in before we head in." As she spoke, the two started walking into the ball.

Once the two entered the ball, they started to scan the room for any sign of the targets. Blake took another couple seconds to scan the room before coming across a man with drinking what appeared to be champagne in the glass on the right side wall. She tapped Kuro's arm to notify her partner. "Kuro, perp on the wall 3 o'clock." Blake continued to look through the room as she whispered to Kuro.

 

Entering the ballroom, the first thing Dana noticed was the diversity. Fitting in wouldn't be much of an issue here with the distinct differences in nobility, even she could tell that. Then she noticed the targets, one blonde woman who was almost as pretty as herself but just as flirtacious; her soul was be lovely, and then there was the male who looked exceptionally bored and yet he remained very calm, as though he had everything planned out. He'd be a good place to start. Surely the attention of a pretty girl would get him talking more, that was how life worked. Turning to look at Zoey, she whispered quietly "I'm going to go talk to the male target. If anyone asks, you're my sister and I'm staying with you for just the weekend. Also, If I say anything...unusual, ignore it. I gotta play the part" she said, winking slightly despite her partner being blind, before leaving to go speak to the male.

She arrived shortly, after making a quick stop by a server and getting a non-alcoholic drink. No matter how much she'd batted her eyelashes at one of the servers he hadn't caved in, so that had to do. Going over nearby the male, she leaned against a wall and sighed loudly. "Wow Lacey, this ball is a total blowout. There's nothing to do here at all, here I was hoping to have a good time but they're all just pathetic. This wasn't even worth our time, there aren't even many stunningly handsome males, they're more interested in their alcohol than anything. What a bunch of low-lives" the girl said, pretending to be exasperated yet speaking juuuust loudly enough that the male would be able to hear.

"That's perfectly fine milady." Kuro replied, playing along with the act that she had started. The ballroom that they had entered was quite impressive and definitely large enough to fit all of the people that were in attendance. Granted that would also make finding their targets harder as well as actually stealing their soul. His head turned in the direction that Blake had mentioned and saw the man that was standing against the wall. That took care of locating one of their targets, now where was the next one. "Keep an eye on him. Now where is out next target." What Kuro wanted to do first was to make not of the locations that both the targets were and figure out a plan based off that.

Zoey was following Dana's lead. She was immediately overwhelmed with the majority of souls she saw, and how they all seemed blue... she saw one red in the middle, and another against the wall. She then spotted two other different colored souls walking in, black and a different tint of red from the usual Kishin colors... perhaps they were the pair from DWMA also on this mission.

Before she had a chance to think about talking to them, she realized that her and Dana were hanging close to one of the targets. She also had a fruity, non-alcoholic drink in one hand.

Zoey then heard Dana call her a different name. Lacie? Well, that was better than Bonnie. "What would make the ball more interesting, my dear sister?" She asked so casually. "There's so many walks of people around, all with an interesting story to tell. At least, I would assume so. You can't go throwing accusations and judgements just yet, Cara." Zoey smiled kindly to her partner and took a sip of her drink.

 

Blake continued to scout out the male target when two girls approached the area he was in. Talking as loudly as they were, not only were they are little out of the ordinary, they also had caused the target to leave in search of more champagne. Tapping Kuro's shoulder once more, she alerted him of their target moving from his previous place. "Target's on the move. Kuro keep on the lookout for the other target. And keep an eye on those two girls near the wall, they're just oozing suspicious. I'm going in." Blake released her arm from Kuro's as she walked up to an incoming waiter carrying a tray of champagne. She grabbed two and made her way over to the man in the black and blue mask. Extending out the glass to him, she spoke, "A refill? You look like you might need it. Especially with the earlier racket." Blake smiled as she offered the glass of champagne in her right hand.

Zoey saw that the man wasn't paying much attention and someone else was already moving to him. Welp, there goes that target. "Phase two."

She moved to the woman in the middle of the crowd with her fruit punch in hand. She had to engage in conversation somehow... she placed her fruit punch on a tray that was passing and moved in.

She walked next to the woman, tripping over her feet and bumped slightly into her shoulder. "O-oh, I'm so sorry!" She turned to the woman and curtsied lowly. She focused on the silver outlines of the woman, and felt the mood around her. She wanted a good time... well, she wasn't a man, but she could casually start a conversation. "My eyes aren't what they used to be," Zoey said with a slight smile, pointing to her mask.
