    This is a thought I've always had on my mind I just never posted it, but does anybdy else think that Sora was given that name for a reason? I ask because I was looking at a list of Japanese names one of my friends had made with names and what they mean, and on the list was Sora which translates in english as "sky".
    Plus this isn't the first time Square has done that. Take Aerith for example. Her name in Hebrew means "flower", and her occupation is a flower merchant. So, does anybody else think there is a connection?

    Hey remember the poem that Kairi wrote? It said we all share "One sky, one destiny"?O.o I shall ponder this...

    I recall reading somewhere that Riku's name is derived from a word meaning "earth" or "land" or something along those lines. So it could be a metaphor referring to the fact that no matter how hard either one of them tries Sora is always going to be slightly higher than Riku, like the sky is above the earth.

    Hmmm...Interesting theory, and fits really well considering the story between the two.

    Sora means sky. Riku means land. Kairi means sea. One cannot exist without the other. Without a sky, then the land and the sea would be blank. Without land, there is too much water. Without water, there is too much land.

    I guess. In my opinion, the three balance eachother out.

    If it wasn't for one another, these probably would be unstable somehow.

    Exactly. If there was no water or earth Sora's head would always be in the clouds, if there was no sky or land Kairi would be alone drifting by herself, if there was no sky or sea Riku would still be thinking he was only one to do everything.

    Yeah they need eachother, just like sky, sea, and earth need eachother. What I think of is like watching the sunset off of the sea, there is the sky off in the distance, then there is the land ( that you would be standing on), then there is the sea that connects them. :)

    sora: japanese for sky (also an anagram for soar)

    riku: japanese for land

    kairi: japanese for ocean or lake.

    Japanese fictional characters are often given their name for a reason.
    Take Naruto for example, he's named from one of the ingredients in his favourite food (Ramen):D

    I found several ways to translate the names of Riku and Kairi.
    Riku as well as meaning land or shore, means "Agony of seperation" and Kairi mans seperation. So maybe that's why they're always apart?:p (It also means beaver, nautical mile and dissociation, if that means anything to yah)

    Probably has a connection.

    Like "Kairi" means 'sea' or 'ocean' (I think?) or something. And Sora means Earth (I think?) or something or another.

    Guys,if you look at this post,you will see yet another connection.

    Sora= Sky
    Riku= Land
    Kairi= Sea/ Seperation

    The ocean seperates the sky and land.

    Kairi is the one that seperates Sora and Riku.

    Yes,the earth needs all three.
    Yes,their friendship needs all three.

    But,since Kairi came along,the two boys have been getting more and more competitive with eachother.

    Growing farther apart.

    Just because of her.

    Think about it.

    Land,Sea,and Sky.maybe its like Fire,Ice,and Lightning.if one is missing there will be great chaos.Because in KH1,when Riku dissapeared in the darkness.Major Major chaos struck on the islands,and the same thing was happening to other worlds.
    In KH2:Kairi was kidnapped!There was majo Chaos in Sora's Heart cause Kairi is his best friend.Not to Mention Riku became "Ansem" To help wake up Sora by Capturing Roxas.(Chaos to Riku fans at least)and also,Kairi Forgot All about sora!(and said his name wrong!Its Sora!not so-ra.)Is that chaos or what.

    So Maybe Land,Sea,and Sky are like Fire,Ice,and Lightning.we need all 3 for total peace.and when Sora,Kairi,and Riku were finnaly Reunited,Everything was back to normal.no Heartless,No organization,all at peace.
    (Okay,I think I made a record of the longest virtual Explanation ever)

    I dun think so,Anime. XD

    There was already chaos before Riku even gave himself up to the Darkness.
    Not only on that world,but on every other world as well.
    For a very long time,actually.

    Everything became back to normal when Kingdom Hearts was finally closed.Riku wasn't even with the other two,and even then Sora and Kairi were seperated.

    I thought "Kairi" meant beaver. "Sea" in Japanese is Umi, there hasn't been a character with that name as of yet.

    It's a tradition among Square titles--that is, they like naming their protagonists after some sort of reference to things above ground.

    Cloud - FFVII - self explanatory
    Squall - FFVIII - a type of bird
    Tidus - FFX -- which is a anglasized translation of "Tiida" which means "sun" in the Ryukyu dialect of Japan.
    Sora - KH - meaning sky.
