    Tsundere. Coming from the phrases "tsun tsun", meaning to turn away in disgust, and "dere dere", meaning to become 'lovey dovey'. It is a word used for someone who is initially mean and standoffish but grows more warm over time, or switches between tsun and dere modes throughout the relationship. It especially refers to people who pretend and insist that they do not care about you but really do. If you ask a tsundere to do something with you and they say yes, upon realizing what they have done they will typically say something like, "B-but i-it's not like I'm doing this for you or anything!" That about sums it up.

    Tropes are not the same, but I suppose you are correct.

    A tsundere is someone who switches between tsun and dere modes, not necessarily one who starts on tsun mode.
