Apparently it's even screwier than the anime in some regards.

But I'm just started reading Bokurano. One volume in and the main character has been accidentally pushed from the top of a giant robot into the ocean (He drowned) and another main character who likes to kill things has taken the reigns and is stepping on people for fun. Oh, but he accidentally crushes the only man he admires, his father.

This is the first volume.

No... I started on Death Note, went on to Geass because of the similar concepts, then moved to Evangelion once I was in the mecha zone. After that I was depressed, so I went on to TTGL for an anime where any physics question is answered with "spiral power".
