If this was posted anywhere else I'd have moved it to Spam. o: Where there is Colin Creevey gifs, there is a spam zone thread. Additionally, users have the option to really post anything in the spam zone, even if it could fit into another section. If they want people to remain on-topic or to get a post count, they should take it to another section, but some people know they'll get more hits in spam and choose to post it here. There's no "this doesn't belong in Spam" (except maybe forum games), only "this belongs in Spam."

Because the thread creator decided not to post it in Discussion. You guys have the option to do that, and while we would frown upon placing everything in Spam simply so you get more hits, any thread of any topic can go in here, even if it could fit somewhere else.

We put that disclaimer in the rules because we've had people place their threads in here and get upset when they're taken in a different direction. If there's a topic you want us all to discuss and stick to, then Spam isn't the best place, because pretty much every thread drifts off-topic in here.

If HB had put this in Discussion it'd have been moved to Spam. Asking for links to tumblrs to follow doesn't really fit within Discussion.

That's bit bias isn't it. What if something which is really important comes across tumblr which needs to be discussed are you just going to put it in spam just because the entire site falls into that category or will you be willing to make exceptions?[DOUBLEPOST=1349998156][/DOUBLEPOST]

It's not bias? It's the policy the whole staff follows, and has followed since the spam zone was created.

To your second point, we don't consider anything black & white like that; if I see a topic about tumblr I won't automatically move it to Spam, I'll consider whether it has merit in the Discussion section (or whatever section it's in). And that's partly up to whichever staff member comes across it.

Regardless though, the whole discussion is rather moot because of my original reason: the thread is in spam because HB posted it in Spam.

We can't possibly spell out every little social norm on the forums. We do our best to provide guidelines & rules across the site, but if you're still confused about something, you're welcome to ask about it. The staff members act in this manner because they know that that's how the forum works.
