That's actually pretty simple. All anthropomorphic animals in from classic Disney stuff are humans, but changed to look like animals. The theory behind this is that if they walk, talk, think, and act like humans, then they are humans. So more or less, they may as well be humans who so baked that they see one another as anthropomorphic animals.
