How are they used "right" though?

 

mmm.. Xyz gift would help a bit.. you could use Super Star Mira to stop the opponent from killing your low level non-Xyz monsters. actually, Mira would combo well with Unicore.. hmm. Mira would also stop them from using negate and destroy effects on your monsters. Illuminiknight can be used to generate grave advantage... not really thinking of much else. You could abuse Quillbolt for any level two summons, because it doesn't ever leave the field if it's used to overlay, then combo with Xyz gift to gain hand advantage.

The problem with Xyz Gift is that it gets rid of all the Overlay Units. And at the rate my deck could spam Exceeds, I'm gonna want to keep those and a good number of cards in hand. Mira is a Rank 1 and generally not useful for my deck at all, since I spam Rank 4s mostly. Quillbolt is pretty much only used for the Daigusto Phoenix OTK. Shock Ruler is ran over Illuminiknight too.

Just... outside of a random draw duel, they can't hold up as much advantage as other decks.

Also, I was running Fableds before they were cool.

Dark world is so spell/trap dependant it drives me crazy @_@!!
I cant make a good deck with spell/trap heavy monsters!! its not how I think DX!

oh... Why did I not realize shock ruler would be banned? huh. still, quillbolts into rank twos then Xyz gift would work. You could use Pot of Benevolence to recycle your Xyz gifts after you use two, then the third would draw one of the other ones, save the third for next turn when you have another pot of benevolence ready.

Fabled fits me best so ill start using that for now on once I make the deck lol
