if Galaxy eyes attacks Metaion would Metaion still return it back to the hand after the battle phase even if it was removed from the field and its effect deactivated since it was no longer on the field for its effect to take place? o_O

 

Metaion would not activate.

 

It's a matter of priority. I think both effects happen at the start of the damage step so it depends on the turn player. Like if Grand Mole attacks Ally of Justice Catastor.

EDIT: No wait. I misread that. Metaion's effect would not activate at all because it was removed before the end of the battle phase. That's when his effect happens.

But at least I've also answered the very confusing Grand Mole VS Catastor question before it could be asked here.

so in Grand Mole vs. Catastor, the turn player's effect fires first? But don't simultaneous effects resolve as a chain, and then chains resolve in reverse order, so the non-turn player's effect would go first?

Edit: Catastor is mandatory, and Grand Mole is optional, so wouldn't Catastor always activate first, then Grand mole chain, and thus resolve first?

Edit Edit: that means Grand Mole + Ultimate Offering is a nearly perfect defense, as long as they don't negate or destroy Ultimate Offering, because the only effects that fire before Grand Mole chronologically are effects that activate on attack declaration, and the non-turn player's optional effects are the last thing to add to the chain, and thus resolve first, and if you chain to their attack declaration with Ultimate Offering then a replay occurs, and replays don't cause attack to be declared again.

 

My mentor told me that it depends on the turn player. Both of their effects activate at the start of the damage step.
