"It's not shopping if you didn't buy it" Dylan muttered. He was interrupted from saying any more by the sudden arrival of a very strange man. He gave the red-haired shirtless figure a glance, then gave Kara a look, with a raised eyebrow "And you may not be the only eye-candy around here" He then turned back to Lucian, with an appraising and thorough gaze. Leaning back against the wall, Dylan listened to the man, and tried to work out some more details than the vague explanation he gave. He could smell the alcohol on the man, which exacerbated the rugged appearance. But bar-room brawlers could certainly not afford a pair of longswords. Or a mechanical eye. No, this was not a poor man, and his athletic physique portrayed a history of combat. Not a soldier though, dual wielding was not a military tactic. He seemed more like a traveler, or a mercenary, but not part of a professional guild. More independent. Either way, he was certain that this was definitely a man who could hit things. "We're meeting up with an informant of mine, and might come across some trouble. They're located in a questionable area of the city, you know the Fisheries?" Dylan explained, no longer staring quite so intently at Lucian. The Fisheries was a well known district of the city, it was so named because it was located right at the waterfront, and it was home to a large portion of Erradan's working class population. It was also claimed by several gangs, most notably the Black Dragon Brotherhood, a notorious criminal syndicate with a fearsome reputation. "If you're curious, I can explain why we're doing this on the way"

    Ulrich - Harbrook Manor
"Um... I'm not sure sir" The servant responded warily. He seemed put off by the large assault rifle grafted onto Ulrich's arm. "She has been quite busy over the last few days, trying to organise her plans. I think she wrote that this morning, and planned to send it this evening if the Grand Minister didn't agree to her suggestions at the meeting today" As he said this, he seemed to become very worried. "I don't... I heard what happened. I don't know why she would... What will happen to us if Lady Harbrook is arrested? We didn't do anything I swear!"

At the sight of the side door the two relaxed and looked at one another. Jebediah held out his arm for Mira to hook onto which she accepted, the two shared a proud smile before walking up and pulling the door open. With equal strides the intrepid detectives headed into the unknown! And they found themselves in… a pantry, fancy food decorating every surface.
“Hm.” Jebediah thought as he walked up to the door leading to a kitchen, he wiped the condensation from the glass and peared in to see a group of clockwork butlers.
“I think they’re drones” Mira interjected as she shoved Jebediah to get a better look.
“Right then” Jebediah stated as he leant in and pulled the door handle “After you ma’am.”
“Thank you” Mira said with a voice thick with sarcasm “What a gentlemen you are” A side smile and a curtsey later Jebediah followed out and hooked arms again. Before they could look for the door out, a voice breaks into the moment.

"You're not an investigator if you can't solve things." Kara retorted just as Lucian appeared. She gave him a bright smile, which turned into a smirk at his statement. "You see? He's multi-talented. Keeps things interesting." She winked, ignoring Dylan's comment about eye candy as she continued to rummage through the cupboards until she found another of the apples she had liberated earlier. Taking a bite, she turned to appraise the atmosphere, her arm crossed underneath her chest, her mechanical elbow balanced on it as she slowly ate the fruit. Lucian might appear to be a simple drunk, brawling to try to escape whatever pain his mind put him through, but he was far more intelligent then that. He hadn't brought down his constabulary jacket, for one. Kara didn't deem it necessary to mention it to Dylan, not if Lucian wasn't going to put it out in the open. Why make things more complicated? He might be part of the useless force that had refused to bring her aunt's killer to justice, but Kara wouldn't hold that against him, specifically. Not when he clearly rebelled against the system he worked for. Now that she thought about it more deeply, this little scheme of hers might be even easier than she had originally thought.

"Dylan is also afraid that some miscreant will cut his pretty face. Rather than let him use me as a meat shield, I thought perhaps a man of such talent and strength like yourself might be useful in keeping my own body in one piece. I've already lost a part of it," her mechanical fingers tapped against the half-eaten apple, "and I'd rather not lose more. In addition," she paused to take another bite, chew and then swallow. "Stardust here is liable to leave me there on his quest, and it wouldn't be as exciting to take on the Dark Dragons, whatever they pretend to be, by myself." She took a last bite of the apple before tossing it out the window, wiping her mechanical fingers on her shirt. "You wouldn't leave a girl to fend off the legions of evil alone, would you?" She asked, her voice light but her gaze cold. Truth be told, she was hoping to get into a fight. She needed to take out her frustration from the constable earlier on someone, and she couldn't very well do it to the man who paid her wage.

Lucian rolled his eyes. "I know the area." He had to work in that area enough that it was hard to not be familiar with it. It brought about enough trouble that he was shipped of there to deal with situations every now and then. The man then offered to tell him why, and while Lucian normally didn't care, it would be good for his job to know what was going on. "Sure you can fill me in on the way. If I am going to save your sorry butts, I would at least like to know why." He stated flashing a smile in Kara's direction as she made a comment of Dylan not wanting his pretty face cut.

He couldn't help but laugh a little bit at that.
"I am sure his face will be fine. I am pretty damn good at hitting things after all." Lucian stated as he glanced quickly at Kara's mechanical arm. He didn't mind the arm thing, after all he had a mechanical eye. "I think I can manage that, and I will be sure to make the fighting an evil legion thing more interesting, because as much as you like to think it. I know you aren't that helpless girly. If you were you wouldn't have been able to keep up with me back at the bar." Lucian pointed out before turning to the door. "Are we don't with the chit chat then? Lets go."

The unimpressed manner in which the man had introduced himself as 'the guy who hits stuff" upon walking down the stairs equaled how unimpressed Zephyr was upon seeing him. He hadn't been expecting anything grand or special, not knowing what to expect made making that presumption easier for him. Pushing those first impressions to the back of his mind for the time being, Zephyr made a mental refresher of the name that Dylan had mentioned. The Fisheries, no surprise that he's never heard of it given how little he explored outside his range of typical places. If it was as questionable as Dylan claims it to be, it certainly would be a good thing that that was the case.

The machine was guided through the Harbrook estate. It was reminiscent of Vincent's home in many ways. It had the trappings of a wealthy house, although unlike Lord Blackmont's home there were not the esoteric machines and there was no constant buzz of thrumming electronics and the whirring of machinery. This place was quieter. More unfamiliar. Humans, he had determined, would call this sensation discomfort. The golem was used to the life of machinery or the life of organics, this place seemed devoid of both.

When he finally arrived at the room, he was met with some of the life he sought. Two fat and fluffy cats padded across to Aspire, and the golem watched curiously with bright eyes as the creatures rubbed themselves against his chassis. He stretched a hand down and stroked them as he had seen humans do. They meowed, clearly enjoying the attention, and returned to the bed where they had been staying. Aspire could not see why humans liked these creatures. They did not reciprocate his affection in any way. Perhaps dogs were better.

The golem began his search. There was a dresser, but opening the drawers revealed little other than beauty products which he had no purpose for. Perhaps Lynda could use them, but that would not be lawfully seizing property. He rifled through papers on surfaces, but there was nothing of note. The human in the room looked at him with an odd expression. Perhaps they were displeased with his searching, but he had a job to do. Aspire searched under the bed, but returned with nothing but some dust and a lost sock. Cleaning oversight. The expression darkened further, but Aspire kept going. The only place that he had not yet searched was a chest of drawers. He opened up the first one, and was met with underwear. Bras, pants, socks. Things that humans needed to wear to keep warm and comfortable and such.

"Is that really necessary?" The maidservant spoke at last with a furious look. If her eyes were heat filaments, Aspire's body would be melting. "I understand that you are trying to conduct an investigation Officer-" There was an awkward pause as the woman seemed to realise that his name was not known to her. "Whatever your name is, but my lady is under suspicion of murder and I find it disrespectful that the best thing you can do is rifle through her personal effects!"

Aspire processed the complaint. There was nothing of value in this room, and she was right. Her implication that looking through her clothes was not the most useful thing that he could be doing was correct. The bedroom plainly had nothing useful for the investigation. He would move on.
"You are correct. May you please escort me from here to the office so that I may assist Officer Haltezor?" Aspire rumbled, deciding that it was best not to correct her on the notion that he was an official officer. That would make the situation more awkward.

Ulrich listened to the answer of the servant, so they weren't sure when it had been written except somewhere in the past few days. He understood the servant's concerns regarding his own job and the uncertainty this whole case brought them in. "Well, if Miss Harbrook is found guilty of this crime she will be punished accordingly, unless you were an accomplice in all this nothing will happen to you, atleast the Constabulary won't do a thing, what Mister Harbrook will do is not for me to say." Ulrich answered, making sure to keep his weapon pointed at the floor. So she had been busy over the last few days, perhaps this servant could shed some more light on it and help out. "Did Miss Harbrook behave oddly? Did she meet with anyone unusual? Or do you perhaps have a diary or other schedule I could look at to see who she met?" Ulrich said finishing up putting all the things back in the drawers. Hmmm perhaps he might even try and cut a deal with this servant after all they seemed rather concerned for their own hide, but then again, he'd have to watch what he'd do in that case as to not bring his own integrity into question.

While Kara was rambling about legions of evil, Dylan grabbed his hat and refilled his flask with Vernonwood Whiskey. He was listening to their conversation with half an ear, picking up on anything interesting.
"Yeah, chit-chat is over. Let's go" Dylan responded, leading the way out of the front door. They would be walking to his destination, it wasn't too far and Dylan was too cheap to hire a carriage this late into the evening. As they walked, a thought occured to Dylan "What happened with that constable you tailed, Kara? Did you find anything useful?" Dylan asked casually. He vaguely remembered something from Jebediah's report "From what I heard about that interrogation, he seemed like a prick"
Having concluded her investigation, Lynda looked for the others. After peeking through about seven rooms, she finally came across the large form of Aspire standing in Harbrook's bedroom.
"Ah, Aspire, find anything useful?" Lynda asked inquisitively
"No" Aspire stated. The maidservant glared at him slightly. Lynda raised an eyebrow but didn't question.
"Damn. Okay, let's find Ulrich, I think he went to the study"
"I concur" Aspire rumbled, before falling in behind Lynda. Together they made their way to the study, where Lynda caught the tail end of Ulrich's inquiry
"Funny you ask that Ulrich" she interjected "Miss Harbrook did have a very bizarre meeting with Lord Gallahowe recently. I'll explain soon, but first, what did you find?"

Jebediah & Mira - Gallahowe Manor
"What?" came a bellowing voice from behind a kitchen counter, with a thick Calamaran accent. "Who are you? What are you doing in my kitchen?" the voice came from a bald portly man with tanned skin and a thin mustache. One of his arms was a clockwork augment that seemed to have many utensils built into it; including a spatula, a soup ladle, and an assortment of knives. He seemed to be in charge of the kitchen, and was currently stirring a spiced fish soup that smelled delicious.

Ulrich was asking his question when he heard the heavy footfalls belonging to Aspire, only for Lynda and the clockwork golem to join him by the end of the sentence. With Lynda mentioning that Miss Harbrook apparantly having had a rather bizarre meeting with Mr Gallahowe, did this mean that the theory sergeant Crowne had provided had substance to it then? Could it truly be a large powerplay? Either way he had Lynda to answer, he took the letter from his pocket and offered it to Lynda. "I found this on her desk, it's a letter voicing her frustrations regarding the Grand Minister's objections to miss Harbrook's plans about census and background checks for Hirokiri immigrants. According to this gentleman right here she wrote it this morning and intended to send it today depending on the outcome of the meeting earlier today." Ulrich said, not mentioning that perhaps the concerns of miss Harbrook were well founded as their prime suspects were in this case Hirokiri immigrants. Perhaps they might have to pay a visit to the Steiner institute and see if they could track down this latest graduate, but that meant going after Gallahowe and an investigation most certainly wouldn't be welcomed by such an influential person as it might damage their reputation, but they were the Constabulary and shouldn't deter them in the pursuit of justice.

Mirabelle and Jebediah paused before looking at one another “We were…” “Erm.” “Kissing.” “Yes. Wha-” Before Jebediah could question Mirabelle stood on her toes and reached Jebediah's cheek, gently pecked it before leaning against his bicep with a false cutesie smile to sell the story.
Jebediah froze and looked into the middle distance for a couple of seconds before coming back to reality, he quickly smiles and gives a sharp nod to the cook.

The cook furrowed his eyebrows and waved his spatula-arm at the pair "Hmph! Out! Do not come back!" the cook yelled, gesturing towards the stairs leading further into the manor. Upstairs lead into the ground floor of the manor, which was populated by a variety of engineers and aristocrats. In the lobby, stood Lunaji Gallahowe and the girl she had been speaking with, along with several strange individuals from a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds. Through it all, several red-waistcoated clockwork butlers moved, serving hors d'oeuvres.

After standing in an awkward silence for a while waiting for the confirmation, Mirela gave up. Lunaji had offered if she wanted to speak to him that Mortimer would be upstairs, she didn't think she actually needed further permission than that. "Well thank you for bringing me in and showing me around. I am going to pay my respects to Lord Gallahowe now. Thank you again!" With that Mirela turned around and headed for the stairs almost skipping along as she did, her eyes alight with the idea of talking to THE Lord Gallahowe. She didn't necessarily know where she would find him upstairs, but she would look around, she was sure it couldn't be that hard to find him.

Lucian followed behind Dylan wishing he had some of that whiskey. However he was on a job now in a way and had to keep his head at least somewhat clear before he ended up in another mess like the one in the bar. As they walked though instead of explaining the full situation the man asked Kara about the prick of a constable she had been tailing. He had a good idea from the start that the girl wasn't just someone he accidentally bumped into, but if she didn't say anything he didn't care. He didn't really give her much to work with anyways, but he wasn't in the mood to listen to whatever rant this pompous green haired man might have upon finding out, he hoped Kara was in the same boat. Maybe after he took out some anger in a fight or two it could be considered, but not yet.

Kara rolled her eyes once more, sighing with enough attitude to draw attention to her figure, and then followed Dylan out the door. She ran her metal fingers through her hair, the sunlight catching and reflecting off the purple strands as her eyes roamed the crowds around them. "Oh, him." Kara tossed her hand dismissively, putting a little skip in her step to push her pace ahead of Dylan's, and to the front of their small group. Lucian was still remaining silent, thank whatever deity there was. "He wasn't all that bad. Bought me a drink, we chatted. I might meet up with him later, if he's not busy. As for his attitude." She turned to Dylan and winked. "He reminded me of a certain someone, so I couldn't complain."

Mirabelle smiled to herself, getting a little rush from her deception. She enjoyed this part of the job, Haytham's Investigations was proving itself to be a fine place to work. Jebediah was wonderfully playing along too, which always helped. She was certain that the policeman hadn't had any sort of close contact with anyone for a long time, if ever. The way he froze up when she kissed him earlier... It was unusual. She had toyed with all sorts at parties, nobody had quite reacted like that before. The peculiarities of her companion aside, there were far more pressing issues at hand.

"This part is simple. Get a glass of wine and some hors d'oeuvres in hand, survey the room and exits." Mira stated quickly, striding out into the party proper. She felt supremely confident here. Rich idiots with more money than class, all enjoying a tipple and the odd snack. She led the pair of them into the fray, picking out a glass of wine with a delicate hand and daintily eating a canapé she had picked out.
"I vote that we look around, see if there's anyone of high status that would be odd to see in Eredan. Also scout out what's keeping the guests from just walking upstairs" Jebediah recommended. She nodded in agreement. Outside of Lunaji, there were not many unusual patrons although she did spot an Izirian man with mechanical hands. He did not seem to be of any particular note. She could hear the sounds of the party continuing up the stairs, although nobody yet was going up.
"Are you quite alright Jebediah?" Mira asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
"Hmm?" The sergeant looked at her, presumably lost in the task at hand. "Oh yeah, yeah. Fine." He sniffled afterwards and looked away. It was not the truth, she could see that, but it was an issue to be deferred for later. A minute or two passed. She was satisfied with that answer for now. Eventually, she concluded that going up the main staircase was fine.
"Shall we?" Mirabelle wrapped her left arm around his right and led him towards the main stairway. He nodded, and up the stairs they proceeded.

Some time passed as Dylan guided the small group through the streets of Erradan. They made small talk along the way, and crossed Victoriana's Bridge, the large structure spanning the Eastwyrm River. The setting sun cast an orange glow over the river, and coloured the clouds of soot and smoke that were spewed forth from the highly industrial Factory District to the north. The Fisheries district squatted by the seaside, an eclectic collection of run-down tenement buildings that were packed tightly together, with alleyways and canals snaking their way through. Dylan stepped off the main road and into the lamplit dinge of the cobbled side-streets. A small winding path took him between secretive buildings, some of which looked like they sold incredibly dubious wares, and reached an inconspicious black door. On the front was a plaque that read "Oracles".
"Just to warn you, things get weird from here on out" Dylan stated, before opening the door and stepping inside.
The room within was dark and bare. The others wouldn't be able to see a thing. But Dylan was different. Swirling blue patterns crossed his vision, in bright flowing lines. These lines combined and separated around him. The threads of reality. And somewhere among them, an entity hidden in the dark.

The first floor of the manor seemed to be where the bulk of the mingling was taking place. Much more comfortable in appearance, several large, open rooms dominated the area, each richly decorated with furniture. Some partygoers sat in armchairs or sofas, sipping at the wine in their hands as they chatted about everything from economics to engineering. A large buffet table was laid out in one room, with all manner of fancy dishes; from traditional Erradan seafood, to exotic Hirokiri curries, and some cakes. Standing near the top of the stairs was Lord Mortimer Gallahowe himself, currently chatting with an Engineer-Captain of the Varawyn Imperial Engineers.
Lord Gallahowe turned away from his conversation to spot Mirela McLain climbing the stairs.
"Ah! Miss McLain, you decided to come along" Mortimer greeted warmly, striding towards her "It is lovely to see you again" he said with a hand extended for a handshake. Just as he was doing so, he spotted a pair of individuals out of the corner of his eye who he did not recognise. He would have to speak with them later, but for now he just kept an eye on them.

As she climbed the stairs, Mortimer noticed and greeted her. Beaming Mirela climbed the last few stairs and shook his hand rather excited. "Thank you so much for the invite. This is so incredible! Wow. I mean.... I can't believe I am here, in your house. It is an honour to be invited to this. And the food is sooo good I don't think I have ever tried anything this good." Mirela exclaimed not really knowing how to hold her tongue and be polite in a place like this. She was just overjoyed to be in this place, to be worthy of being invited here.

Lucian couldn't help but roll his eyes a little bit at Kara as she continued to cover for him. It amazed him that she was still holding the act up, but it meant that she would probably want something for it later. While that didn't sit well with Lucian, she was harmless enough she couldn't do any worse than he tended to do on his own. As they walked, Lucian remained mostly quiet, not caring to talk too much with the company he was with, more so Dylan than Kara. He had enjoyed his conversations with Kara, though they were conversations he felt Dylan wouldn't approve of.

Keeping an eye on where they were going, they eventually arrived at a small street that housed certainly illegal items. His mechanical eye focused on several of the areas out of habit for his job. He took in the area a bit as the approached a door that Dylan warned it would get weird from there on out. He brought them into a dark room and Lucian tried to look around, see nothing.
"So what now?" He crossed his arms seeming rather unimpressed about it all.

The conversation thereafter was somewhat boring to Kara, but she figured there were only so many lines she could push before the noose slipped around her neck, as it were. Nothing really ruffled her feathers until they entered the building; she had spent enough cold and dark nights on the street to become numb to the fear they might have caused in a lesser woman. The "weird" that Dylan described however, was more than a little unnerving. Similar to that constable's strikingly awful ability to track her whereabouts, she felt her stomach tighten and her hair stand on end. It didn't really help that she couldn't see.

Tightening her mechanical fist, Kara resisted the urge to reach for the extendable knife she kept on her person.
Dylan was a mystery, but it wasn't likely he would lead them into danger headfirst. Seemed more of a feet first kind of guy, anyway. And Lucian....well hopefully his chivalry outweighed his sense of self preservation. "So what now?" Lucian's voice came from her right, and she sighed, clenching and unclenching metal ligaments before turning her eyes from one side of the room to the other, in a poor attempt to be able to see anything.

Mira and Jebedia miandered over to a buffet table and grab small finger foods from a well stocked pallet. Each of them grabbed a cocktail stick and enjoyed the exquisit taste of the gormet foods, Jebediah enjoyed a smoked potbelly while Mira enjoyed a Salmon Incensa wrapped around a fine Nazenne cheese block. The two turned to look at the room behind them full of party guests and immediatly noticed Mortimer who had just finished noticing them, Jebediah throwned "We've been Spotted."
"We should mingle and blend in, then slip away?" Mira suggested, Jebediah nodded and the two looked for a large group of people mingling to blend in with.

Blue light suddenly illuminated the room, as a crystal orb sat on a table began radiating magical energy. Behind the orb, a single glowing blue eye opened, and the creature it belonged to moved in closer to the table. A resonating supernatural voice emanated from the creature.
"Who dares to enter the lair of the arcane?" it spoke. "Doth thou wish for knowledge? Power? Secrets?"
"These, we can deliver in abundance" came a voice from behind the group, as another creature appeared there. The being was dressed in long blue and purple robes, and seemed to only have two fingers and a thumb on each of its black-skinned hands. Its face was obscured by a strange veil and hood, only the glowing eye visible. "Permitting thee can deliver something in return..."
"But perhaps thou art unprepared for the infinite extent of our knowledge..." the creature waved its hands mystically, causing bluish smoke to pool around the crystal orb.

"If I hear another 'Thou' I'm leaving" Dylan grumbled. The creatures paused "Cut the theatrics"

"Only the finest chefs for such an important gathering" Mortimer smiled. He glanced away briefly, but couldn't spot the two strangers from a moment ago. That was troublesome. However, something did catch his attention as two half-drunk engineers were talking particularly loudly and conspicuously nearby.
"Did you hear about the train hijacking over in Varawyn?"
"Ah yes. The Architect's new agents were responsible I presume?"
"Yes. The train was carrying stolen Iron Soldiers and their blueprints-"

"Can you not talk about this right now chaps?" Mortimer interjected. Though he had a smile, an observant individual would noticed the menacing look in his eyes. The two engineers shuffled away nervously. He turned back to Mirela "Sorry about that, I do so hate it when people talk politics at my parties" He stated, the paused. "Hm. Perhaps It's time I show you what our little group actually do in this city"

"Oh would you? Would you really? I would love to see that. It is already such a blessing to just be allowed here. It would be great!" Mirela was practically bouncing as she spoke. She glanced at the guys that Mortimer asked to leave. She didn't think talking politics was a bad thing, but she would keep it in mind that he didn't like it. It wasn't that Mirela really cared for politics herself though. As long as she could continue working here and making enough money to keep inventing than she could care less what was going on outside of that, unless of course it allowed her to get involved with more inventors and learn more like it was now. Then she was perfectly happy to do what it took to learn more and get better at what she did.

Okay this certainly was becoming interesting. As more people showed up, Lucian's metal eye started to focus on the figure, taking snapshots of the scene he was witnessing. He would be glad to have them later he was sure. Still Lucian said nothing as Dylan lead the conversation, or more so, failed to really make much conversation. He clearly was the one who knew what was going on, and meanwhile Lucian was totally lost to the point of all this. Leaning over he whispered to Kara "You know your boss is a nut job right?" He couldn't see any point in all of this yet, and unless conversation that provided useful came soon, Lucian was very tempted to just walk away.
