The Orphanage

"Well then..." The mad king mused, his starburst eye still spinning.

"I suppose I shouldn't wait then and just leave you to decide your own death."

Turning his back to the pitiful girl, Larenzo began to walk down the halls, watching at the Gifts and guards, the young and old, were being slaughtered.

"Remember, girl, that gun doesn't just give pain, it can take it away. Yours for example could be taken away with a single pull of the trigger."

To help with his point, the manic put his index and middle finger to his head and had his thumb drop like a hammer on the end of a bullet.

 

"I'm not asking for death," the Reader stated.

"You've had so many oppertunities to kill me, and yet you haven't." As Larz got farther away, the pain eased enough so that she could breathe again.

"Why not?"

 

Eva turned, her thoughts befuddled. Kill? No....bad...... she stumbled, dropping to her knees, then slowly leaned back against the wall, cradling her head. Smiling a little, she looked down at her hands, watched them slowly change into a wolf's paws, then weakly curled up, her cold nose tucked into her silver tail, her eyes slowly closing. Sleep......

 

A pair of firm hands grabbed the two girls. The were strong, but kind. Gently holding their waists, the man helped the two gifts onto their feet. It was the Director. Of all people, he should be the last person to show this kind of compassion, especially to them. However, that was a question to be saved for another time.

 

Ren looked at the director surprised at his arrival at such a time "hmph I thought you would be still moping around" Seth said calmly to the director

Seth also watched the director still on his knees I wonder if he has a plan to stop Larz Seth though to himself

 

Elevir's first instinct was to fight off the Director, but something told her this wasn't the time. Even through the manics' combined power thick in the air, she could still read the man's thoughts because of their close vicinity. Through the anger, fear, and pain already forced through her mind, she couldn't comprehend a response to his sudden change of plans.

 

"One more word and I'll dock your pay!" barked the Director, throwing the winged gift to his officer.

Gently, he cradled the shapeshifter in his arms, like one would hold a young babe.

"Now hurry to my office. We don't have much time."

 

Ren sighed as he caught Elevir and held he. He looked down at her and then looked at Seth who was getting up "need help" Ren said

Seth smirked "no thanks I can take care of myself. Lets get" Seth said standing straight up

 

Eva snuggled in, then stopped. She shouldnt' be warm....the floor wasn't this warm. It was cold, like death was supposed to be. She tried to open her eyes, but she was so tired....clenching her hands, she forced her eyes to open, blinking. Why was she human again?

 

The world was so disoriating with the manics free. The screams of so many vicims at once that were being hunted like mice, there was too much to bare. Stumbling, the director walked down the hall, supporting himself against the wall while carrying Eva. After what felt like an eternity, he found what he was looking for, the door to his office. Using all his strength, he pushed open the door. He placed the shifter down on the floor. Reaching under his desk, he pressed his hand against a hand scanner. Instantly, sirens began to wail. It had begun.

 

"What about everyone else?" Elevir asked suddenly, through the obnoxiously shrill alarms. The manics' power still flooded the castle, but it wasn't as murderously overwhelming as it was before. Not from this distance, at least...

 

Eva cradled her head, her eyes watering. "Loud...." she murmured, shivering. Her clothing was in tatters from her many battles and shape changing, and her mind was barely clinging together. "So loud.....where's Elevir?" she looked up, feverish eyes, locked onto the director's. "Find Elevir."

 

Grabbing Eva's hand roughly, the director bolted down the hallway past Ren. It was like hell itself was chasing after him. He already could see the countdown in his head. 10...9...8...7...

 

Ren stood there holding Elevir as he watched the director run "just what the hell is he planning" Ren said calmly as he tried to ignore the loud sounds of the sirens

 

Being dragged along was not what Eva liked, nor what she wanted to do with her day. Her bright eyes darted, looking for an escape, but she could see none. All she could do was close her eyes and try to keep up. "You're more insane then I am." she whispered, her voice rasping out of her chest.

OOC:*shoots* Because I told you I would :B|:

 

"Run you fool!" The director yelled back at Ren, sweat going down his brow.

"If we don't get out of here we'll all die!"

Gripping the girl's hand in his vice-like grip, the director pulled Eva farther up to make sure that she didn't fall behind him.

 

Ren looked behind himself and tightened the grip he had on Elevire

Seth looked at Ren carefully he doesn't want to leave the other children. His mind is practically screaming that out Seth thought to himself as he noticed Ren started to run towards the direction the directior was heading. Seth immediately started to run with Ren

 

"The castle is going to implode," Elevir spoke, "and when it does, the Manics will go with it."

But what about the other Gifts? Why would the Director bother saving Eva and Elevir when there were so many others sure to die?

Maybe he already had. Maybe that's why he took so long to get to where they were... or maybe she was just being optimistic. However, their current situation didn't seem too bright.

"Let me down, I can run fast enough on my own."

'At this rate, none of us are going to make it out...'

 

Ren simply put down Evevir and looked at her "hurry"Ren said and started to run ahead of them

Seth looked at Evevir "don't think negative or it will slow you down. Believe that we will make it out. Just have hope" Seth said reading her mind. He then continued to run

 

'Sometimes,' Elevir replied without words, 'It's just not that simple.'

She took off, running as fast as she possibly could on foot. It didn't seem fair to take flight when the others didn't have that ability, and by no means did she have the physical strength to take any of them in the air with her. Still, she was pretty fast, and caught up to the others quickly.

A sickening thought tugged at the back of her mind, of the similarities of this situation to the day she was taken to this damned castle in the first place.
