The Orphanage

Eva's eyes flashed, then she slowly, nodded. Yes. Someone's going to get hurt. She said in her mind, through that strange connection. Out loud she growled, slowly shifting back to human form, her teeth shortening, her hair becoming skin.

 

Lorita is sitting alone. Watching and waiting.

 

'I'm going to... attempt to immobilize the guards... again,' Elevir spoke to the other girl, 'and it should give you enough time to free the others being held... together you can take the rest out. I've got the Director and Larz...'

At times the strength of her words faltered, and pictures flashed through her mind to communicate with Eva; she was sure that the Surreptitious gift got the message, though.

If there was enough combined strength from the children in that room, then they could potentially take every single one of the guards out, even after her focus broke from the guards and they were free. If one thing led to another, they might use this opportunity... to be rid of this cursed castle altogether. But that would become another story... something to look forward to as a reward.

"...Are you ready?"

 

"You talking to me?" Lorita whispered thinking that the person might not be talking to her.

 

Eva cringed, the pictures burning into her mind's eye. "Larz has to come with us. He's not a bad person." She replied stubbornly, her hands still pinning him down. She growled, her lips parting past her teeth to show elongated canines, almost giving her a vampiracal effect. Slowly her ears shifted to their cat form, but now she was half and half, her skin turning to fur, but her hair hanging down her back, her eyes shifting to green gold. "Go."

 

Well, needless to say, this was not the way Larenzo expected to die. On the other hand, he wasn't going to let it end this way either. Taking his chance, the Mad King bit into Eva's wrist and broke the skin. Tasting the blood almost had him in stitches. The fear, and anger, the taste of the primal emotions were so delicious. He started to laugh through his teeth almost choking on the red liquid he had stolen from the pseudo beast before him.

 

Eva gritted her teeth, her eyes widening with surprise. "Larz!" She tried to jerk her wrist away, the hair on her back rising in fear and apprehension. "Let go!" her teeth clicked together, adrenaline pumping through her veins.

 

Seizing his chance, the manic spat out the girl's flesh and crawled out from underneath the Gift. He flew down the hall, stumbling over his own feet. His heart jumped into his ears and deafened him with its loud, rapid beat. He was scared, utterly terrified. What a wonderful feeling. If only everyone could be as terrified as him" he thought. Muffled by his own adrenaline, he couldn't here his own hysterical laughter as he rounded the corner to the Manic corridor.

"It's time we all had a little fun, wouldn't you say?"

 

The guards froze in place, some losing their sense of balance and falling over, and some trembling trying to fight the girl's power and move again. However, Elevir wouldn't stay to see what became of them. As soon as Larz escaped from beneath Eva, the mind-reader was running after him. Her wings appeared behind her, and she kicked off of the ground and soared through the strange hall she had followed him to, that was wide enough for her wingspan to fit. With a small, inaudible gasp, she realized where they were, and tackled the Manic to the ground, digging the barrel of the Director's handgun into his jugular.

"You won't," she spoke, her voice almost breaking.

 

Ren calmly looked down at the many guards that were all succumbing to the young reader "she is something special" Ren said and then looked at Seth who had regained his strength "the time has come. The time I have been waiting for. Your freedom awaits" Ren said and exited out of the room and calmly walked towards where Elevir was. As he walked he saw Elevir up ahead. He held the sheath of his sword

Seth watched as Ren left whats with that guy. what did he mean by "the time I have been waiting for"? Seth thought to himself and then ran straight towards Eva "damn your hurt" Seth said as he looked around for something to wrap the wound

 

Larenzo laughed breathlessly, tapping his adam's apple against the cold steel. "I already have." he whispered, his lips twisting upwards farther, making his smile even more sinister. He had her now. Soon she'd feel the fear that he felt and fall before his impulse.

His pupil dilated. His starburst spun and hummed. Soon, the air was alive with an ominous buzz. The manic wing had lent it's strength to their king. It was time to unite. Like a tidal force, the madness splashed down the Gifts, drowning the pair in their most vicious instincts and delusionments.

 

Eva smiled weakly up at Seth, holding her hand. "It's okay...I have to go after Elevir..." she started forward, then shrieked, covering her delicate cat ears with her hands. "God....." the screams filled her ears, triumphantly.

 

"Go help."

"What? I can't! I can't leave you alone!" the blonde protested, beside his sister.

"I'll be fine... Fai, they need you. The guards are vulnerable right now." she argued, "Just go!"

"Okay... but... I'm still keeping an eye on you, okay?"

"Yeah, sure. Just go."

Famous ran forward into the crowd of immobilized guards, and stood still for long seconds before the electricity cackled uncontrollably between his wrists and his ankles. Pretty soon it expanded even more, and within seconds the whole crowd was enveloped in lightning. It lashed out at anyone within ten feet of the young boy first, and as the burn from the bright light left his eyes he began to see the effect it had on the guards. The ones immediately surrounding him; some were definitely dead, some covered in blood from the attack lashing a vital artery or vein. With this, he noticed that he was pretty bloody himself, though it was unknown to him whether it was his or not. What he did know, was that he was trembling from using so much of his power within such a short period of time... although he could still feel the electricity racing through his fingertips.



"No..." the girl tried to speak, but under the sudden wave of insanity, she could hardly force it out. She was trembling under the sudden pressure she felt, crushing in on all sides... like she'd been pulled into a crazy dark abyss.

"Make it stop," she commanded, trying to keep her tone stern through the fear and pain that was there. Her grip on the Director's gun weakened, but she still held it to the manic's neck.

 

Eva took another step, then another, forcing herself. She had changed her ears back to human, but they still picked up those screams of triumph, of the insane. She stumbled, landing on her knees before the struggling maniac and Elevir. Those screams were like needles, making her head spin. She was going to lose, she knew it. She struggled, placing her hands on the ground, her shape shifting quickly again, making her bones creak. "Larz......you have to stop." she whispered, her voice changing patterns through the shifting animals whose shapes she took. "I know you're a good person in there...." scenes of what had happened to her sister flashed before her eyes, and she cringed away, finding her face awash in tears. "Elevir.....if he doesn't stop, you have to do this."

 

Seth staggered to where the others were and kneeled on one knee due to all the screams and pain that was going on in his mind "Larz you must end this" Seth said

Ren was using the wall as support to prevent himself from falling. Ren was trying to resist everything the manic was causing but wasn't doing a good job. "Elevir end it right now" Ren said looking towards Elevir and the gun still in her hand

 

The manic slowly slid out from underneath the tormented girl, his smile ever present. Wrapping his fingers around her's, he released her grip on his father's gun. He touched her hair as he kept the weapon to his side, an act of mock compasion. In a flash, he began running up and down the hall, releasing latches and shooting off locks.

"Come brothers, sisters, and minions! Our time has come to create a new kingdom so our children can play with the skulls of the weak and worthless!"

Harkening to the Gift's battle cry, the Manic's threw open the doors to their cells and flooded the halls. It was dreadful and malignant, like watching tainted blood rush through dying veins. The Mad King's legion had been let loose upon the orphanage. All hope is dead and gone.

 

"Larz," Elevir choked out, lifting herself off the ground after the abyss loosened its grip enough for her to stand. The manic was only about 10 yards away, and the combined power of his minions and himself beat down on Elevir more painfully than she'd previously been able to comprehend.

"You didn't kill me," she stated, her eyes showing no emotion between all the fears and insanities running through her mind that she couldn't possibly express at once.

 

Larenzo looked over his shoulder, smiling as his minions ripped open cell doors, assaulting the children within.

"You're right." he remarked

"I didn't kill you. I'm just waiting you to claw out your own neck in desperation."

 

"That's not going to-" she winced and gasped briefly, reflecting only a small fragment of the pain she was actually in, "happen, Larz. Even if you wait-" another wince, "forever."
