The Orphanage

Aly pretended to sleep, but held tight to Eva, not letting go. At least she had stopped shifting...she knew the bones had broken, though.

 

He stayed still as the guards began dragging them away. Idiots still don't give a big enough dose to put me down. He thought to himself. When they were left in the room, he moved over to Larz and Elevir, shaking them gently in an attempt to wake them. "Wakey, Wakey."

 

Elevir's eyes opened slightly. Everything was blurry. What happened?

Why was everything so eerily silent? She'd never heard such a thing in her life. Like it was so silent, that the walls were screaming. Shortly after, she realized that her own ears were ringing.

She felt the dart still in her back, but she was too sleepy to pull it out. It wasn't a peaceful kind of sleepy, either. It was just lethargic. The kind of drug-induced sleepy that could make her sleep through a fire alarm.

Eyes barely open, she looked up at the person who had woken her. He was Rek, the guy from earlier... but she didn't remember him being a manic.... Why was his mind so blank? Where was this silence coming from?
It took some effort, but she stretched her arm behind her and pulled the dart out of her back, throwing it in some direction away from Rek.

Wait. Metal things are supposed to clatter when they hit the ground, aren't they? Of course they are. Why didn't she hear it?

Now she realized why everything was so silent... she was deaf. Hopefully, it was just temporary, from the drug... she'd go insane without the voices she had heard since birth.

With some effort, she sat up on her knees, slouching somewhat.
'Thank you,' she mouthed towards Rek, but didn't use her voice.

 

Larz began to flutter his eyes until they were wide and receptive. The violet eyes flashed and gazed up at rek with amazement and wonder. It was as if he was seeing him for the first time.

 

Eva huddled in a corner, wincing as her arm throbbed. It hurt, but it wasn't worse then constantly shifting. She wasn't complaining, but it didn't make her sister any less nervous. "I'm fine." she murmured again, keeping her eyes on the ground.

Her sister kept her eyes on the others, watching them. They hadn't taken an interest in her, good. She wanted to keep it that way, for now. She was used to being ignored anyhow. "I know you're not." she answered her sister. "Lying is a sin, so stop it."

 

Larz! Elevir thought, seeing his eyes flutter open curiously, like the Larz she knew. Larz is awake!
After all the darts he took, she was afraid maybe he'd overdosed or something... it made her smile to see she was wrong.

She crawled over to him. "Hi, Larz!" she whispered, afraid to speak with her hearing loss... and only after did she realize she wouldn't be able to hear his response.

 

Larz turned to his left and stared at elevir. Something was wrong, but he couldn't tell what. Oh well, it didn't matter.

the manic began to crack a smile.

 

Elevir looked concernedly towards the darts piercing her friend's skin.
"... Are you going to pull those out?" she whispered in worried inquiry. They looked painful...

 

The smile cracked and twisted into something more sinister. He began to laugh. It was that of a child that had just pulled the wings off a bug. Placing one hand down, the man with the triangle eye began to sit up, piercing the girl with his gaze.

 

Elevir leaned back on her knees, sitting up with Larz. He seemed to laugh... Was it what she said?

Suddenly, she noticed the difference in the man's gaze. It was still childish, but not in the same way. There wasn't the air of curiosity that was there before.

"What's wrong... Larz?"

 

Larz began to crawl closer. His triangle began to turn menacingly. His hand began to reach out. His fingers twitched and spasmed.

 

Elevir backed away, slowly and calmly.

"Larz.... You're scaring me.... Please stop, Larz..."

Larz gripped elevir's face and stared at it, the look in her eyes. It was a great look. He wanted to see more of it.

 

The girl made a weak, and unsuccessful attempt to get away. The man was too strong.
Her vision was starting to blur as the manic came closer. She felt as though she were in a cage.
"Stop it..." Elevir spoke, not even noticing that she could hear herself talk.
"Stop it!" she yelled. The look in her now lavender eyes was no longer of fear, but anger.

bic Takeshi glanced around a corner then moved back he had lost track of the two girls and was being a little more carefull.

 

OOC; All the kids were drugged and stuffed into a room.

 

Larz saw the look in her eyes and was immediately frightened. Impulsivly, he threw her away from him and backed away. His grin rotted into a repulsive show of distaste.

 

Elevir yelped in pain as she was thrown back against the stone wall. She didn't understand why, suddenly, he was so different from the manic she knew.
"Larz...." she spoke, "Tell me... why are you acting like this? What's wrong?"

There were a lot of things wrong, she realized. For one, he'd been locked up all his life. By his father. Two, he was surrounded by miserable people, and miserable children, most of whom had known no parents. But those still didn't explain it. Had he simply snapped?

 

An intercom becan to resonate through out the room

"do you understand now child? This is why I did what I did. What you are seeing is the true Larenzo Kendrith."

 

"I knew he was watching..." Elevir muttered under her breath.

"I can see why he was locked up," she spoke aloud, so he could hear her, "but I still don't believe it was justified. If you really wanted to help him through all the years he's been imprisoned, you could.... It seems more like you're keeping him alive to punish him. Somewhere, though, through all the resentment, you just don't want to lose him, like your wife and daughter. You don't care what he has to live through, you just want him to live."

Kind of like a kid who's caught a bug and won't let it go... she thought afterward.
