I have browsed that site, and it's not worth it. Thanks anyways. But the majority of boots appear to be over thirty dollars, some are even in the hundreds range. And none of them are as simple as I'd like. I am cosplaying Kitty Pryde during her earlier days as Sprite, for ref.

That's a pretty insane setup, actually. may have to try that when I set up a good competition team since my Doublade isn't good for online.

can i confess that it really pisses me off to see people taking other properties and drawing them anime-style. why do we have to anime-ify everything? i get that its a little ridiculous to feel this but when i google search something and see all of these fan arts of anime versions to me it feels like they're disrespecting the original visual style and passively saying that in order for something to be worthwhile it needs to be anime.

A lot of people may just find it hard to mimic a visual style, so they draw it in a style that's easy for them. I'm like this, so I guess that's why anime-fied stuff doesn't bug me.

you do realize drawing something in anime is mimicking a visual style right

I said they do it in a style that's easy for them. It was a generalization.

I am super picky about fanart I like and it's so awful. I usually prefer ones that stick to the style of the original and/or are like cutesy little doodles. I don't really like realistic representations of cartoon characters all that often, and vice versa with real people. I don't really talk about it ever and just skip over it without a word, but stuff like that's just usually not my cup of tea.

I think HoT's point still kinda applies. A few people, that I've been around at least, when they get super into drawing and also watch cartoons, start out with those anime/manga sketchbooks that walk you through how to draw specifically in that style. It may just be easier for them at that point to do that, because they've gotten more accustomed to doing it than the more clean/simple style of stuff like Regular Show or Adventure Time. Though, that fanart is also from DeviantArt, so tbf it's not too surprising there's a surplus of the anime style stuff, lol.

That's fine, but fan art is fan art. There's really no "right" way to draw it. I say let people draw the stuff they like as whatever, because it's not for me: it's for them. Do I get annoyed when I see Kill la Kill as ponies? Yup. Do I think that should be done away with so I personally feel better? Not at all. Same goes for anime. Though I'd much prefer anime-stylizing something that isn't anime to pony-stylizing, it's not right for me to say "You can't do that." Just learn to accept that people like stuff you don't, and move on.

It's not disrespecting, it's taking artistic license. When you make fan art you are making it because you want to take something that has been made and make your own version of it. If you completely subjugated yourself to the original design you'd be making nothing. It wouldn't be yours, it'd just be a generic image that anybody could make and without the soul of the original. So I think it's probably worse to copy things exactly as they are from an artistic perspective. But the way you're looking at it, it seems that you'd rather not see any fan art at all and the most prominent type is what you're complaining about because it's what you see most. You'd probably have the same problem is every piece of fan art was drawn to look like TinTin.

It does bug me when fan art is bad, but that's because I don't like looking at ugly things.

Tangentially related: I noticed a lot of western artists and art fans have a deep and immense disrespect for the so called anime style and will basically take every opportunity to talk about how bad and unoriginal it all is. While I understand their irritation with being outpopularized by foreigners, I think that it's petty and the arguments usually basically full of shit.
