No disagreements there. When PSU's PC/PS2 servers were still online, PS2 automatically had 60 FPS, but you could choose FPS on the PC. For a while I used go back and forth between 0 FPS and 60 FPS (and I think some others as well, but I can't remember them off the top of my head) before staying on 60 FPS.

    60 FPS:

    0 FPS:

I didn't even realize that it was noticeably different when I played it, but now that I'm watching it, I can see the difference.

    .
....Do you mean 30fps? Not 0?

Also yes, you generally will not notice the difference because your brain kinda does the filling in unless you put them side by side. But if you see enough 30fps and enough 60fps animation, you know the difference immediately.[DOUBLEPOST=1482275412][/DOUBLEPOST]
That's why my first post is also still how I feel on the matter

Atlas already tackled responsiveness for frame rates, but I also VASTLY prefer the look of 3D animations in 60FPS and higher.

Playing Bloodborne on PS4 with its 30FPS (though I have definitely seen parts where it went under 30) and unstable frame pacing, and then going to Dark Souls III on PC with stable 60FPS and (as far as I've been able to tell) stable frame pacing...DSIII just looks *beautiful* to me in 60FPS. Effects like fire and weather, the swinging of weaponry, it all just looks better to me.

I don't know many games where I'd *prefer* a lower frame rate, honestly, except for *South Park: The Stick of Truth* because it's meant to emulate the feel of the show which is I think like 24FPS.

Here's where I remind people (even if I know you know this) that you can have a 60fps game WITHOUT 60fps animation. Example: Most NES games (yes, Super Mario Bros. with its two frames of animation runs at 60fps). So this dicussion always tends to branch further and further.

Now while I love the smoothness of 60fps animation in games and CG, I actually prefer 30fps as far as hand drawn stuff goes. When you can see too many frames of animation on handdrawn stuff, you kinda just... see too much and transitions between key frames take too long and yick. THERE IS A THING AS TOO MANY FRAMES IN ANIMATION. :C

Yup, and I did specify that I generally prefer *3D animation* in 60FPS.

However, Guilty Gear Xrd is a game where I believe the framework is running at 60FPS while the animations are done in 30? I don't know the specifics but it manages to play really smoothly needed for a fast-paced fighting game while still maintaining the "right" anime feel that isn't too smooth like you described. I think I agree that 2D animation is generally something I prefer at like 24-30FPS

Yeah 2D animation has a problem with "too many frames" generally- like the Zelda CD-I stuff. The goal of animation is to make still key frames look like moving parts so like when you have too many parts, you lose the key frame. At least, in a lot of cases.

I wouldn't be surprised if Xrd was 30fps animation but it makes me wonder if that hinders with the visual frame data (I don't have a better work) of low frame attacks.

Xrd IS just that. However, the downside is it's really jarring to see the character intros at 60 fps, and then have it switch to 30 fps.
