for a minute it seems like its going to be good but it almost immediately derails itself and falls apart. so yeah i have to say i didn't like any of it. and i honestly thought the peter stuff was some of the worst stuff in it. right up there with captain america.[DOUBLEPOST=1461208337][/DOUBLEPOST]

i wouldn't be averse to trying this! but i'm not a fan of.... euh turn-based is the wrong word. i'm not a fan of inconsistent/interrupted gameplay flow i guess? e.g. i generally struggle w/ turn-based rpgs, because it frustrates me having free reign on the field, only to have a battle suddenly stop and change everything so there's lots of sitting and waiting. it's gotta be one way or the other or i have a hard time :v

it's not that i find that sort of thing to be inherently bad, it's just that it doesn't work for me very well idk... would you describe etrian odyssey as playing that way?

Sort of. The game has random encounters, but there's also a gauge on the screen to tell you how close you are to entering one. The three main Etrian games on the 3DS all have free demos you can download to see how you like the Etrian experience, or even which of the three you like most. That said, I'd recommend Etrian Odyssey IV first for someone starting the series; it's got great dungeon layouts, variety, and puzzles, a traversable overworld, great character classes (with subclassing!), and frankly, the Untold titles introduce quality of life additions that are kind of irking to go back to not having if you go from an Untold to IV.

i've never found a better description of my aversion to turn-based RPGs honestly

like i don't mind level grinding so long as the gameplay is enjoyable but if i have to do it like in early Pokémon games, it just bugs me...

persona are the only turn-based games i can stand. unless theyre grid based like fire emblem

speaking of boring games, what exactly is the gameplay in ffxv like? is it just plain action rpg like kh thats so awesome or is there some stupid thing to it like in every ff before

I have a hard time believing you gave every previous FF game a fair shot to come up with that opinion lol.

ive played all main series titles but 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13 for at least five minutes which is more than enough time to know that aside from 12 theyre all boring menu combat trash

dirge of cerberus is sweet tho.

Menu combat trash? Just like Persona then? You're free to think/feel as you wish, it's just you might enjoy more games if you gave them more of a fair shot.

yeah i said except for persona. persona's combat is somehow faster and involves more than walking around a wasteland fighting random enemies i cant see and doesnt have a dumb fantasy look. it has a cool anime look and involves walking around random hallways where i can see the things i fight. five minutes at least and completing a game at most is more than enough to know traditional ff is not at all my taste.

Dirge of Cerberus is a pretty average third-person shooter that does little interesting for its own gameplay outside of Vincent going berserk every now and then though.

I rented it from I think Hollywood Video and beat it and still remember the silly Gakt song.

DoC will forever be one of those games that wasn't great, but for whatever reason it was my jam.

Although I am weird. Sometimes games will come out that everyone hates or finds to be just pure garbage, then I clock 60-100 hours on it and have a good time.

Biggest example of that is the game Too Human. I could write a 40 page essay about what that game did wrong, but sweet lord did I have fun while playing it.

judging by the platinum demo it's much more kh-like, no turn based anything (that I can tell). that said, it lacked a lot of depth and variation (IMO), even compared to kh, which is a pretty simple hack and slash most of the time. in FFXV you literally just hold a button to attack then another to guard. the demo obviously is just a small sliver of what the whole thing would be but based on my playthrough of it, making it real time over turn based didn't add any excitement or thrill because it's so damn simple

a lot of people apparently had huge revelations over it and like it now, I didn't and I get the feeling I'm missing something but there is nothing within me that wants to replay the demo

Tbh there is nothing in me that wants to play the demo either, but that is for an entirely different reasons. Demos are cool and all but I wish certain game devs would just hype something (to the appropriate degree) and then just release the game and let it play out. I feel like the "oh hey our game is coming out soon, hope you enjoy it" method works better than flooding us with demos among other things.
