Ever heard of planned obsolescence ? Most products are designed to fail these days.
They know how to build reliable optical drives. They just don' t want to.
So yeah, a guy who knows what he' s doing could improve it instead of just fixing it.

But anyway, if it becomes too much of a headache for you, worst case scenario you could resort to emulators.

I mean, I don't know your reasoning for going for 10 in the first place. I know that some people buy prebuilt computers with 10 on there, so that isn't an issue or anything. I guess people like to mix it up or something along those lines, but in all my years of working with computers I have found stability and compatibility (as well as ease of use) to be pretty much all that matters. Unless its a stylistic personal preference, then I have no idea why people would want to switch in the first place. Of course I understand that everybody is different, but these issues aren't new. I remember all the people who were super pissed about going from XP to Vista, and that is the reason I generally tend to hesitate when it comes to upgrading any form of Microsoft OS.

Just kinda thinking out loud tho, not trying to be a doooouche.

I'm not a Rocket Surgeron, but 50 dollars per two years isn't a bad deal at all. That is less than $0.07 per day.

Which won't work if $0.07 per day is too expensive for him. Emulating PS2 on PC is more power hungry than some might believe. This is especially true if you want a decent framerate at his resolution of choice. I am not saying it is impossible, just not the most efficient use of his money.

Then there is the whole legal grey area thing.

That's now, though. My current PS2, the first one bought refurbished, was about $80.00, and all the new ones my mom bought before that were around $100.00, I believe. Even that's not so bad, but you have to consider the now. I always seemed to need a new PS2 when my mom didn't quite have the money--not that we were struggling or anything, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

All I was talking about was the "now" though. I understand that buying consoles (or anything really) over and over again is a gigantic pain in the ashe, not to mention a burden on one's finances. Strictly speaking on the current prices/options, the safest bet is to go with buying a new PS2 when needed. Refurbishing can be meh (personal opinion), and emulating can get expensive/unstable.

Well, from my perspective that answers why we shouldn't add difficulty options. If it's going to cost more money or cause them to sacrifice other content I just don't want it. Which is something that I do want to emphasize, adding difficulty settings can make it a worse game, because it takes time away from other efforts which, at least from my perspective, I just value more. So maybe people won't put it that way, but I think that at it's core that's what they're feeling but unable to articulate. I'm pretty forgiving about communication because I know a lot of people can't do it so well whether they know it or not.

I mean, that is where we differ in experience. Though, I don't see anything wrong with either of those comments out of context. If someone is being lazy they should expect bad results, simple as that. Telling someone to get good is just encouragement. It's believing in them and asking them to act on their unrealized potential. I feel like you've called me elitist about souls before, but I know I come off as such to people who don't know me so it's whatever.

If it ends up becoming my only option I'll have to.

On the refurbished note, perhaps it was just luck. I don't know. With the exception of the first PS2 my dad bought me for my birthday, the original fat one which actually lasted quite a while, all the slim PS2s my mom bought me new over the years lasted about two years, with the exception of that one that only lasted about a year or year and a half--I don't quite remember. Then after that last one my mom bought new went out, we went to GameStop and discovered they didn't have any new ones. However, they did have refurbished ones, which they said generally last longer than new ones, likely for reasons stated above by @Patman.

Neither my mom nor I can remember exactly when we got this current PS2, but she thinks it's lasted about five years, and it was refurbished. That's three years longer than brand new ones. It can't just be a coincidence, I don't think, can it?

I'm perfectly fine with that explanation, but even with that I wonder if these same people would prefer to see other games remove their difficulty options (not taking funding or time into account.)

It's "elitist" to me because this is entertainment, and many of the fanbase act like special snowflakes who want their game to be treated differently from other games that I've seen communities for who don't act anything like this toward less experienced players or people who simply may not have the same amount of time or focus for this kind of stuff.

"Get good" isn't encouragement; it's almost like antagonism, like taunting someone who's already getting taunted in the game. Helping someone get better is encouragement. This isn't about hand-holding people; this is about trying to get people to even get to the same point that we're at with what they could perceive as a slightly fairer chance. What if an Easy Mode were the bridge for someone to finish Dark Souls 1 and feel prepared for Dark Souls III, without playing on Easy Mode?

I'm frankly at the point of giving up trying to discuss it, and something I don't plan to talk about anymore if this is how the Souls fanbase takes a simple suggestion, not that you're being what I think is irrational about it. It's just...tiring.

Well it does, but not much. Especially if they go the no brainer route, don' t calibrate anything and just use 20% uppers/downers, that' s literally two more line of code to type. Well okay, it might be a little bit more complicated than that, I' m not that much of an expert, but still, I bet it' s easy and quick to implement as long as you keep it in mind from starters. Implementing trophies is probably more time consuming, and even that is just a blip in the development cycle.

It' s one of those things that are so easy to implement that I never understood why devs don' t do it systematically. Like movie theaters, I ' m still at a loss as to why SE doesn' t put one in every single game. Basically, think invert axis. It does take a little time to implement, but so few it would be quite silly not to put it.

Only two (plus #0) issues in and I am liking Boom! Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but...I want something else out of a Power Rangers series. Nothing to replace this one, mind you, but maybe...as an animated series? Kind of like an in-universe multi-generational series. I guess kind of like a Marvel/DC universe but with Power Rangers lore. Start out with MMPR as an original team granted access to the Morphin' Grid -a metaphysical alien power force- by Zordon and later on, branch off: different people accessing it different ways (given access by different mentors?) to become other kinds of Power Rangers.

I mean, I feel like that scenario is kind of out of the question because like I'd said before, the director is a perfectionist and would likely agonize over it. Just remember that even for less obsessive people a lot of the time difficulty settings actually change which enemies spawn and/or their AIs so it's not as stupidly easy as all that for people to implement, especially when you include design time for things like, "How much more or less should each of these number be?"

Besides, if they did implement a really basic number change like the one you suggest is possible it'd be complete and utter garbage anyways and validate everyone's misgivings about it.
