if the purpose of a series is to be a hard challenge and the series thrives off of that reputation, how does adding an easy mode not violate the spirit of that game? i know nothing about the series but if the intent of adding an easy mode is to make it be more accessible, doesnt it seem like that's the opposite of what they were trying to go for in the first place? to appeal to the hardcore player? not everything has to be for everybody. thats just what i, a person who has never played the series and has no interest in it outside of a minor interest in bloodborne based on aesthetic alone, think on this topic i dont really care about but want to weigh in on.

i can see how adding it after beating it originally, like how kh has critical mode, would be fine. the player got that rewarding experience and can now experience the world without pressure when they want to replay.

I don't like the series just because it's "hardcore." I've played plenty of games that are harder than these games, and with fewer frustrating (read: not what I think are good) design choices.

I like the Souls Borne games because of their worlds and lore and mystery and the compelling combat. It would hurt me none if there were difficulty options because I'd probably just stick with the harder ones anyway.

The idea that an Easy Mode would ruin the appeal of a game speaks to me that the game's only appeal was that difficulty, and that's just not good game design if you ask me, but of course it all depends on how you do that difficulty adjustment. I explained what I think would work, but from my experiences most people experienced with the series, save Jim Sterling and some of my own friends, think Dark Souls can only be enjoyed by the "hardcore."

I dunno, I've just stopped responding to people on Reddit about this subject because I'm so tired of my opinion being thrown away as if it were dangerous. I'm frankly sick of the attitude these fans have.

    Death of the new gods

reading scott snyder's batman and it really feels like the poor mans grant morrison
or to be a little more accurate, feels like scott snyder dumbing morrison down to be more accessible for the 52 reboot
like reaing through these first two trades i can point to a handful of things that morrison did before, and better imo.
snyder's good but this aint no batman rip

    I'll look into that one.

I've read a lot of good things about "A Court of Owls." Have you gotten around to it?

Yeah. Court of Owls is the first trade in his "run" and City of Owls is the second, collectively they're a part of the crossover event Night of the Owls, which is less of an actual event and more of an excuse to put a banner at the top of all the bat-related books for a couple months. Court is good, City is... not.

So I'm one of those people you hate, and I've been following this for a while. I do have something helpful to say because it appears you're unaware of this. So I think they pretty much answered this conundrum if you will in one of the Design Works interviews. If I recall correctly, Miyazaki-san never wanted to make a hard game in the first place and tries to make it manageable already. He wanted to make an immersive game that gives weight to your actions. He's also a perfectionist who will spend large amounts of time and budget getting the art to look right, and designing the floorplan of levels. Add that Demon's Souls through Dark Souls 2 all either ran into development issues or had a comparatively small budget and timeframe to work on. So my guess is the last thing on anyone's mind was, "Should we make different difficulty tiers?" As far as I can tell, that's why there's no Easy mode. They don't have the time, money, or inclination on the dev side. Whatever some people say about it, that's probably the case.

Also, people like me get miffed about people complaining about difficulty because a lot of the time people who complain about difficulty are very mean to us about it and call us liars or elitists or whatever else you call us when we try to be helpful. A friend of mine had to show video evidence to convince a guy he beat a boss in Bloodborne without the memory glitch to get him to stop being a prick about his very reasonable advice. So play nice kids.

If you tap your face from the top left of the menu (outside of a mission), it'll pull up your player info. On there will be your player ID number. Take that over to this thread, and Krowley will manually add you to the party~

That response was mostly in laughing matter, but Google actually turned up nothing.

I have no issue believing it's an issue of time and money. What I'm talking about solely is that people are so against the concept of adding options for difficulties and I don't at all agree with them.

The only people I've ever seen be mean about the games' difficulty are the ones who tell other people to "stop being lazy" or to "get good" and such, and I don't think at all it's fair to blame a game for something like that when that's the fault of the people. I've only called someone "elitist" because of his/her attitude about this very discussion and seeming to want to make the game so exclusive for what I felt were weak reasons.

Welp, time for a new PS2. PS3s are still too expensive, and PS4s are definitely too expensive, so I won't be getting either of them anytime soon--I think they're even more expensive than when the PS2 first came out. My PS2 is still working, but barely. It doesn't matter if it's a PS or PS2 game.

Amazon has new ones for $48.94. However, as we know, new ones only last for about two years at most--one of the new ones I had only lasted like a year or year and a half. GameStop has refurbished ones. Not exactly sure what the difference is between refurbished and premium refurbished, though. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be available online or at any nearby stores in Yakima or Wenatchee, and I don't want to get one new on Amazon because it will just go out in two years. I'll have to figure something out, but it's a bunch of bullshit. Why have the price for something listed if it's not really available?

My current refurbished one lasted me a few years, which is weird considering refurbishing just means they send the hardware back to Sony, in this case, and they're the ones who make the new ones, too, so why factory sealed new ones only last about two years is beyond me.

Edit: I don't suppose there's a way mine could be sent in directly to Sony to be refurbished, is there? If there is, while the current prices on GameStop are reasonable, it may even be a little cheaper since we wouldn't be handling it through GameStop. There'd still be shipping and everything, but still.
