Yeah it is a bit silly for someone to think that other people being able to enjoy "X" would "ruin their fun." However feelings rarely ever go hand in hand with logic, not that I am supporting their opinions, merely their right to have it.

It is important to keep in mind that those are fighting to keep "casuals" out of any game are generally in it for their own "ego" / self esteem.

So I totally had a connection with one of the new girls that works at the gas station today and I am so socially awkward that I don't know what the protocol is for befriending a stranger you have one really great conversation with. Do I just slide her my number in a totally platonic way and just be all "feel free to hit me up?" Because making friends seem more difficult than dating.

Simple, you just have to go there a little more often. if she is there just strike up friendly conversations. After a while you can then ask without seeming like a creepy stalker.
See I have the opposite probably. I befriend all the people I try to hit on because I'm too socially awkward to actually hit on them.

talking with an old friend and its painfully clear he gets all of his opinions from podcasts. then he tells me his favorite batman story is hush. some say the past should stay dead. in moments like these, its hard to disagree.

I think that'd be cool. One of the friends I made last semester and I traded numbers after I drunk texted her mine, and we've been hanging out pretty regularly the last few months. :v If you feel like you both kicked it off pretty well, it's safe to say she probably does too, and she'd likely be interested in talking with you more.

If that' s all it would entail I don' t see the problem either. I could sure use that kind of hard mode in Zelda. No Nintendo, unlocking one after I' ve spoiled myself the entire game on normal doesn' t count.

However, while a difficulty setting sure as hell is a lot better than nothing, it doesn' t fix everything. A lot of the difficulty stems from the game design itself, and I get why some players might have a problem with touching that. But then it' s already happening. I have now played all three Souls plus Bloodborne and they' ve clearly been consistently lowering the difficulty already. Not much, they just trimmed some of the unnecessary bullshit that stemmed from the game design.

Not sure how a difficulty choice would affect online battles though, I' ve mostly played them offline.

I'm frankly a big fan of the shift towards the design choices in Bloodborne over parts of Dark Souls: mainly, the lack of forcing us to rely on shitty platforming or stupid-thin cliff-sides to make progress, the lack of illusory walls that I have little clue how people found beyond just wacking every wall in the game, letting us fast-travel immediately, allowing us to move while healing, allowing us to dodge in more than four directions, etc.

I think that my suggestion for an Easy Mode is the best solution to both allowing more people to enjoy playing the game while still preserving the world design and mystery of the games. Online battles would see the difficulties split off from each other.

Also, I've only gotten more and more downvotes since my last post. A ton of Souls fans, for whatever reason, still think it's impossible for their game to allow an Easy Mode and still be Dark Souls.

Also the items you find/farm are found for good, you get to keep them if you die.
Not gonna hear me complain about that one.

Well, true Scotsman aside, if memory serves we' re talking about a series that had "This is Dark Souls" as a first death trophy. I wouldn' t mind having an optional easy mode, nor see why anyone would, but if it turns the game into a complete cakewalk I' d say people would indeed be missing out a piece of the original experience. Kissing your precious exp goodbye countless times was part of it. Not that an easy mode would reduce the number of cliffs ...
