I hesitate to say I loved Lex but... I kinda loved Lex. But I'm already a guy who gravitates towards the mad-scientist incarnations of Lex because business tycoon Lex just isnt as fun imo. I love how manic he is. I love how well-read he is. If there was ever any doubt about this Lex it was completely washed away when he quoted Nabokov. and overall i liked his motivation/scheme. very lex. and appropriate for a movie about altruism i guess. people say it reminds them of riddler from B-man Forever and I'm like... yeah... but only so far as he's a smart guy who's a little wacky. and Lex has always been a smart guy. so unless Riddler has a trademark on wacky idk what the deal is.

this lex follows the trend of this entire series in that nothing is as you would expect it to be from an entry point and seeing it settle into something more familiar is part of the appeal

im seeing a lot of criticisms for this movie where, not even trying to defend it, i have no idea what they're talking about. like theyre must be multiple cuts of this movie circulating bc some things people are saying I just did not see in this movie at all or they did not see things i saw. i dont want to start making excuses but I think a lot of people had already made up their minds that this was going to be a bad bloated movie and nothing, not even the movie, could change that.

I really, really tried to like the movie and, with that, I tried to appreciate their version of Lex, but he just felt weak. His Jolly Rancher scene was great, but I can't help but feel he lacked much presence outside of that. Like his scheme with Martha was great, but he himself just wasn't fun to watch to me, and to be real, I couldn't tell what he was saying in a quarter of his lines, especially at the end of the film. Apparently it was a signal for Darkseid's coming??? I heard absolute gibberish.

Riddler's being mentioned a lot because Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex really fit (what I know from the cartoons and Arkham games as) Riddler's signature characteristic: mocking people for being inferior (in intellect usually) to him. Not that that's entirely unique especially when it comes to DC villains but it doesn't feel like the right antagonist for Superman in my opinion.

I'm sad to say that I am way more excited for Civil War than Batman v Superman.

but... he doesn't mock people for being inferior to him. does he? he's not mocking people for being inferior he's acting on the idea that humanity needs to take control because they are inferior to the red cape, which follows from his philosophy that knowledge equals power but we were given knowledge and no power and prometheus (superman) was rewarded (by the people) for stealing that power (stealing humanitys agency). ie luthor in a nutshell.

idk ive only seen it once. but man ive never seen a movie where the viewing experience was so divisive. not just the reaction but its like everyone talking about this movie saw a different movie.

He was trying to pull the strings as per usual, and craves that control. I don't see that as a difference. Also not saying that you were saying that, just hit the reply button to your post.

He mocked Lois Lane for calling him a psychopath, and the Jolly Rancher scene was all about him being superior to that one government guy. There are probably a few more but those were the most memorable deliveries he had that I can remember. I understood the whole Prometheus thing and it was....ok to me. Kinda heavy-handed (like basically the entirety of the film) but whatevs that scene wasn't a big offender.

It definitely is very intriguing to me too how people can feel so vastly different.

i mean, sure those instances were indicative of a degree of superiority, but the difference is that it defined Riddler to the point where it was out of desperation. luthor's just an arrogant *******. while its the same thing in a few places the execution and effect and how far it permeates the character are essentially not at all the same. at least thats how i see it.

i want to see this one again but prob wont. bd release is only in july so i dont mind waiting a few months.

Eh, it basically felt like the same character to me, but it's cool if you saw it otherwise. I just didn't like this Lex.

I do want to restate: there were some really good parts of the film, but I'd be lying if I called it a good film. It's just average to me. Too much went wrong or happened for no good reason (I bring up Lois throwing the deus ex machina in water as one of the many examples)

and i should state that my liking is disproportionate to how quality i think the film is. i dont think this movie is working as a "movie" but im willing to be okay with that for what it is and for my own enjoyment. but i cant really say thats an excuse for everything that doesnt work.

Good way to look at it. I see Deadpool like this: it's not exactly a strong film, but it's super fun and doesn't annoy me in ways that the Snyder-DC films have so far.

Ugh. I thought DC's Rebirth would save me money, but that doesn't seem likely.
But can we please not let Brett Booth near team books?

    So my computer was acting weird today, so I erased all the cookies and History I've gathered since I got this computer. It worked and it is running better now, but unfortunately it caused me to log out of every site I was login on, one of these was reddit. Now every site I've been to has had their passwords saved, except for reddit. Now I can't get back into my reddit account because I can't remember the password. ;_;

All ready for the first day of spring quarter later today:
    • Clean clothes that have been hanging around for at least two weeks put away.
    • Washed clothes hung up.
    • Binder cleaned out from last quarter.
    • Backpack ready. All I need to put in it in the morning are my snacks and charged laptop.
