so my playing ssb43ds, and consequently earthbound, coupled with my appreciation of persona 3 as a masterwork in all aspects of video games has made me interested in video games as a medium for storytelling beyond glorified time killers in a way i never have been interested before. all of this to say that the zelda franchise is something ive not been interested in at all in the past, but now i'm wanting to try it. would majora's mask 3d be a good game to try as a standalone experienc

I'm very glad to see this occur. I'd suggest Shadow of the Colossus as another great storytelling game if you haven't already tried it (and are able to.)

Imho, Majora is just great at creating a foreboding atmosphere & telling alarmingly affecting stories with very little screentime, but you get as much out of it as you put into it. That is to say, its basic story is rather minimalist in presentation, and getting a real view of what is going on in the world around you requires working through a lot of optional content.

I think it suffers from a lot of things that 3D games of its era did; the camera is asinine (on the N64, I assume it's better on 3DS) and some of the things you're required to do are so frustrating, precise or obtuse that you might want to throw things. The Great Bay Temple is a disaster and is basically a showcase for all of these shortcomings.

But it's a worthwhile and memorable game, if a bit subdued? My experience with Majora's Mask isn't a complete one so someone else more familiar with it might disagree with me on my assessment here, too. Take that as you will, I guess.

edit: I'm a dunce and didn't mention this. If you're wondering whether or not you need experience in other Zelda games to enjoy it, you really don't. It shares a lot of assets with Ocarina of Time out of necessity but it's got its own story to tell.

So, I'm sure that many of you who frequent Facebook have seen the video of the kid who is out of surgery from a heart transplant. He's talking to his dad, and he says he feels good. Because of my situation, it's been passed along to me and has come up on a number of feeds.

There is one thing that bugs me, and it's not the video. Every headline I've read is "Boy Wakes Up From Transplant and Realizes That He's Alive". However, I feel that is a click-bait headline or someone purposefully lying (and I'm hoping it's not that).

From my experience, they put a breathing tube down your throat during surgery and it stays there long after. When they pull it out, they need you to be awake and well aware of what's going on around you. I know that there were points where I felt fine and wanted that damn thing out, but the doctors needed to make sure I was fully aware of what's going on (among other things). So, for me, I was already aware that I was alive when they pulled it out.

The video shows the young man with no breathing tube, and his voice is very raspy. I think the video was taken just after they pulled the tube out. It hurts to talk, but you want to talk because you're so happy. And it's an emotional moment because you have that damn thing out of your throat.

What I don't like is how websites and other news outlets seem to be spreading misinformation. Transplant aren't something that people deal with on a regular basis, so they may not know everything. That's me giving them the benefit of the doubt. One news article I read had so many things wrong with it, the biggest being that the young man was "building his immune system" to return to school. Once you have a transplant, you have no immune system. It's gone, inactive, done. Your immune system is what's going to fight off your new organ because it recognizes it as something foreign, so you take medicines to suppress it. Sure, that's not something that everyone knows, but the family and those involved know that, as well as anyone who does the least bit of research.

I get it's a feel good story; it's one put out there to make people happy. But I can't fight the nagging feeling that someone is purposefully giving out wrong information because that makes it a more attractive news story. It could be the news sites. Or it could be someone involved who is trying to build up a bit of sensationalism. I honestly don't know. The only I can say for sure is that I'm happy the kid has a new heart and that he's grateful for it.

Never attribute to malice what is more easily explained by stupidity.
I mean sure, there' s plenty of click-baity articles out there, but let' s face it journalists are no scientists. It' s not rare to see articles claiming a study says the opposite of what it actually says, but that' s probably not intentional. Hell, most journalists know so little about statistics they completely lack the tools to ascertain how reliable the numbers they' re about to spout really are.

i really want to go back to persona q but at 40+ hours and only being on the 3rd dungeon and that beingtoo frustrating to keep my interest and there being so much time between now and when i last played it so all my mental notes are gone it seems so daunting. but at 44 hours i really dont want to start over

dude I'm having the exact same problem with it. I took a break somewhere in the haunted mansion dungeon (don't remember if that was the second or third one), but I haven't really been interested in going back because the riddles for it started feeling tedious, and I have no clue what part in it I was on. (plus I got ORAS around then, so)

i started over on a whim and at only 2 hours in I'm already finding that I'm probably not going to finish it ever. it's a fun game, but not really for me. even in a game that exists to be fanservice, there's too much of it here. the gameplay is fun but I'm only on the first floor of You in Wonderland and I'm already thinking that if this gets any more complicated (and oh boy does it) I'm not gonna care. good game, just not at all for me I guess.

im not saying clone wars would have been a good show if ahsoka wasnt there, it wouldnt have been, but her presence definitely brought it down significantly.
