As a fun piece or trivia, the GuP BDs outsold Sexual Assault Online when they overlapped.

You're talking Japan, America, or Worldwide?

Obviously Japan. Nowhere else uses the unit BD sales as the only measure of success.

so i played as ness in ssb and liked him a lot. i looked up earthbound and played like the first 30 seconds of it (named stuff, walked out the door) and if my impression of it turns out to be true it's sure to become one of my favorite things ever. an rpg that takes place in suburban america with 1950s (i know it says 199x but from what little i've seen it doesnt feel very 90s) sci-fi alien invasion stuff is literally the best thing ever. if it had art deco it would basically be made specifically for me.

Pretty solid RPG. Makes me realize the third one is still in my backlog.

I have two little guys at work that ask me about comic books and dinosaurs. comics!kid came in the other day wearing a Spiderman apron with his grandma to buy cookie stuff. Grandmother says that he's a Captain America fan but couldn't find fabric to make a Captain America Apron. So I smile and say: 'Well, as it is, Spiderman's a big fan of Cap too. And he was an Avenger just like Cap. And Spiderman's pretty cool on his own.'

dinosaur!kid asks me to say dinosaur names for him. So he'll either bring in a book or a toy and say: 'which one is this?' And I was so into dinosaurs when I was little so I know all the names.

maaaaan I have wanted to try Earthbound for forever; people keep recommending it to me bc I really enjoy games with a quirky sense of humor (Ace Attorney, LucasArts adventures, Kid Icarus Uprising etc. etc.) but I desperately do not want to emulate it. Or at least if I do, I want to play it in native res, which would require either a console or a whole lot of downconverting/deinterlacing software/hardware, potentially both. I accidentally turned myself into a snob about this sort of thing and it follows me everywhere.

Far as I can tell it will be expensive no matter which route I try so I've never given it a shot :C If you keep going let me know if it lives up to your expectations!

im trying to not allow myself to be a snob about emulation. pokemon eats up basically all my money so i literally cant afford to be a snob even though i totally have the potential to be.

    will do

It easily stands out in the mountain of solid Snes RPG for its universe alone.
The closest thing I' ve played, of the top of my head, would be South Park the Stick of Truth.

i cant quite point to why, but the entire time im playing earthbound im thinking i bet jg quintel loves this game. it has a distinct regular show vibe, which is itself part of a larger vibe.

man, i've wanted to give Earthbound a shot for the longest time

my issue is that i don't tend to finish most of the turn-based RPGs that i start (can't even really bring myself to play Pokemon as much as i used to). i've heard so much about it, and it looks too charming for me to just keep ignoring

one of these days, i'll force myself to get on with it...

I FEEL YOU. I'm not a big fan of turn-based RPGs so if/when I get to play it I'm depending wholly on the writing and presentation to get me through, lol.

I've never played Stick of Truth but if Earthbound's universe makes it worthwhile, that's a good sign in my book!

I've been trying to not let things affect me so much. I can't make everyone happy and I'm not going to stress myself over trying to. Trying to focus on the positive things and not so much the negative.

I suppose you could call it a belated resolution even if I said I don't make those. I'm also trying to eat a bit healthier. I've lost ten pounds just by not eating after 7pm and not snacking so much. If I do want a snack, i get a bowl and put it in the bowl rather than taking the bag/box/etc.
