What's it like getting excited over video games? I don't remember.

Just excited for Gideon Emery to be back on Teen Wolf in January. I like his voice.

    for me personally, it's exhausting
though that might just be because 99% of my hyped games take like 5 months to localize

Sounds like effort. But to be honest, I kind of gave up being hyped for games since Sengoku BASARA's not being localized anymore. That was probably the start of it.

The last non-sequel game I was hyped for and got to enjoy playing immensely was Bloodborne.

It's great exploring a new, rich and immersive universe that manages to convey storytelling and world-building through well-designed mechanics and direction.

I still have SOMA, Until Dawn, and probably some other titles to dig into. Now that I've finished The Phantom Pain, I can move on.

As I was at college at the time, it didn't affect me personally, but the power was out for half the city for about an hour earlier here. A bird decided to be stupid and fly into a transformer.

I'll be a nice guy this time and not get as upset, I guess.

    @Iskandar, @Incognitus, @Mixt

We're finishing up percentages, which are my strong point, but I'm stuck on two.

The price of silver went from $7.20 a troy ounce to $6.12 a troy ounce during the past 6 months. This represents a decrease in price of what percent?

I get 14.16%, but the book says 15%.

    6.12 * 100 = 612 / 7.20 = 85 / 6 = 14.16666666666667

A tent is on sale for $32.49 and has been discounted 35%. What was the original price of the tent?

I get $92.83--$60.34 difference--but the book says $49.98--$17.49 difference. And for this one, I even looked at the instructions and I did it correctly from what I can see. There was an example with the exact same question, just different numbers.

    32.49 * 100 = 3,249 / 35 = 92.82857142857143

Is there a reason we don't call Yang "Punchy Punchy Boom Ma'am"? I feel like that should be a thing.

    not directed at me but

    1) You want the percent decrease that 6.12 represents of 7.20; I think the way you're thinking about it is a bit backwards. 6.12 is not the 100%, 7.20 is, right?
You can subtract the smaller value from the larger one to find the difference, and then divide that out of the original value to find what percent decrease it is.

    $7.20-6.12 = $1.08/7.20 = .15, and multiply by 100 to convert to 15%.

2). 32.49 is 65% of the original value, not 35!

    x * .65 = $32.49

    Divide to isolate x.

    32.49/.65 = $49.98.

    Thanks.

I use a different method as seen above--it's actually how I learned it studying for my GED. A very basic example: what is 25 percent of 100?

    x over 100 = 25 over 100. 100 * 25% = 2,500 / 100% = 25

It's worked for me for the most part, it's just these two that got me. According to the book, it's amount of increase or decrease over base equals percent over 100%--essentially the same thing, they just do it a bit differently by going the longer route and isolating X, whereas I don't.

I guess for these two I was just missing a step? $7.20 minus $6.12 which equals $1.08 and 100% minus 35% which equals 65%--and, actually, the book showed that, too, in its example question, where it had a 40% discount, but they used 60% in the equation. So my method was fine, I was just forgetting a step.

    Math 1.png

You know what? Reading at least the second question I got stuck on again, I feel incredibly stupid. It was obvious I needed to subtract by the wording, "has been discounted 35%." What's the obvious indicator in the other one, though?

The other questions were slightly different.

A table lamp regularly priced at $12.59 is on sale for 30% off. What is the amount of the discount? What is the sales price?

    $12.59 * 30% = 377.7 / 100% = 3.777

    The discount is $3.78 and the price is $8.81 ($12.59 - $3.78).

The price of silver went from $7.20 a troy ounce to $6.12 a troy ounce during the past 6 months. This represents a decrease in price of what percent?

Or, "What percent decrease is the difference between $7.20 and $6.12?"

I think you might've had a harder time with it because it's asking for the opposite of what it does in the other questions (percentage from price rather than price from percentage).

I don't normally do this but I need to let off some steam.

I got my hours for next week.

    Tuesday: 8-4
    Wednesday 8-4
    Thursday: 8-4
    Friday: 4-8
    Saturday: 8-1
    Sunday: 8-5

Because apparently every other cashier is unavailable and because the scheduling manager is unable to say no, they all got the time off. I specifically asked for Halloween afternoon off because my Nephew and my Niece are going to be over. And in the real world, you are not always going to get the time off you request. You can request all you like, doesn't mean you're going to get it. Which is why I put in my off request for Black Friday now. I worked it last year and I hated it.

So I have 42 hours this week and I have chronic pain. yay. i usually don't even get 30 hours. And I hardly ask for time off. I make sure my vacation is in the summer when I know there's people to cover my hours. I got to leave a whole hour early for my dentist appointment this past Tuesday. Which gave me just enough time to drive home, brush and floss, and then drive to the dentist. Doesn't mean I should constantly get shafted like this. I realize it's retail but can the universe just give me a break once?

This better not happen every single holiday.

A coworker got fired, I had to work his shift in addition to mine (our shifts overlapped so it amounted to me coming in three hours early). That resulted in me not having time to finish an assignment.
I got an extension on the assignment and two days later, as my shift is three hours from ending, the night shift supervisor calls and says he can't make it; he was helping his elderly father move and it was taking longer than he thought. So it was between me and the General Manager who had to be there at six in the morning so...it ended up being me.
This week, we were told in advance that the schedule was extremely tight due to one girl going out of town for her birthday (yesterday), my general manager taking an extra day off and the assistant manager going on vacation. There was a Food Safety Certification class that we've been trying to get me in and it ended up being on Monday (My day off). We were told that there was no wiggle room on the schedule for a single shift to be missed by anyone. Sunday: new girl calls in sick. Monday: new girl still sick, I'm spending my day off in a Food Safety class. Tuesday: Nothing too special, but we get slammed since both managers wanted the day off of course. Wednesday: A coworker in the Navy who was shipping off on Friday decided to just quit and not show up for his last two shifts. Thursday (today): Navy guy is missing his shift, next-to-newest girl (and new girl's roommate) called out this morning because our checks are a day late and she "doesn't have gas." I get called in but tell them I literally can't make it there any earlier. I get there and find out that new girl also doesn't have money for gas and I'm a person short tonight as well. Oh, and it's my birthday, of course (as well as one other shift supervisor who was by himself all morning).
I decided I wanted to go on vacation next week to recharge myself and catch up on homework but my general manager is taking a vacation the same week and I have to cover him (He's sixty, with one leg, and going ziplining. Wtf). So my vacation got pushed back a week...only to find out both other night shift supervisors need the same night off, interrupting my vacation so it's getting pushed back another week.

    Happy ****ing birthday to me.
