The important part: is it so bad it's fun to watch?

no it was a miserable experience. no schlock value. no good action amidst a poor story. it was bad on every level. i won't go into details but suffice it to say there is no one dominant flaw with this movie. no one thing you can point to and say "that's what made this bad. other than that it's pretty good." no, this is a complex maze of wrong turns and bad decisions and by the end i just want to go home and put it all behind me. that a movie like this was released in 2015 is totally baffling.

someone compared it to getting teeth pulled but i don't think that's an apt comparison because after that you're given drugs to make you feel better.

Even my dad said something along the lines of "we should probably not see this from the reviews I saw." Yay dodging bullets.

i can't relate to that -- seeing a superhero movie is obligatory to me, but there's close to no fun to be had with this one, so if you were to skip it i would understand.

Well, it's unusual for my dad to want to avoid seeing something. Though he usually ends up regretting it.

For fuck's sake we went to see The Spirit and my dad walked out before the movie ended.

i would never walk out of a movie
if it's bad and i'm going to trash talk it i want to have seen all of it so i know what i'm talking about.

this isn't even something you need to see to experience for yourself how bad it is. at least not in theaters. it's so painfully dull and characters are like single-trait archetypes with faulty "arcs." there's nothing here. no potential for these characters to be developed, no illusion of a deeper story. it's painfully boring. and slow. i can't think of a superhero movie as poorly paced as this one. it keeps building and building and building to a supposed conflict of sorts and the whole time you're looking at your watch wondering how it can possibly get there and resolve itself when it's only a 100 minute movie and you're 70 in. then it finally happens. and your jaw drops in disbelief. like i said, totally baffling.

and this is just basic stuff. i haven't even talked about relationships, interactions, dialogue, and acting.
i feel bad for the people who played johnny, reed, and sue. they were all good casting choices but they weren't given good characters and they weren't directed well. i don't think the director cared at all given it's not the movie he wanted to make, and man is that reflected in these actors. no one seemed like they wanted to be there. sue looks bored the whole time. johnny phoned it in. reed started out enthusiastic but at some point he realized this was a bad movie and stopped caring.

a review compared it to Catwoman but from what I'm hearing it doesn't even have the bad hilarity of Catwoman which is a shame. if a movie is going to be bad, make it so completely awful that I can still enjoy it

fantastic four is sitting at a solid 9% on rotten tomatoes tho, and it's flopping bad at my theater lol

The director supposedly said that this was not the movie that he wanted to make and no one would ever see the movie he wanted to make. this is a conflicted movie. Fox clearly wanted a harder sci-fi movie but was too afraid to leave superhero movie conventions. And thanks to internet reaction crushing any passion for deviation that may have been behind this project originally, it's played very safe and very formulaic. You can't mix hard sci fi and superhero and play it safe. That's a bold thing to do and at some point, one is going to have to dominate the other. The easiest example is the first two Nolan Batman movies. They are crime dramas mixed with superhero. But they're crime dramas first. by the time this went into production no one was enthusiastic and no one was willing to take chances so you get extremely easy, obligatory stuff like third act contrived laser of doom. emphasis on the internet killing it.

Yikes, yeah definitely got the word about the reviews for the reboot of Fantastic 4, lol. From what friends had told me, it at least makes the original more tolerable.

And on a sort of related note, it kind of sucks to see POC actors and actresses get casted in these kinds of roles but then have the movie be completely sub-par or at least below expectations. It was the Annie reboot and now this. Then again, the casting for Johnny to be black but not his sister is quite questionable. :|

Also kind of funny in a retrospective way, I recall glimpsing at a few interviews with the cast of Fantastic 4 and remembering them being very not engaged or just really out of it. Made me think that they were just simply tired but now looking back, they pretty much were bracing themselves of the horrible outcome.

Saw Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F yesterday.

A good DBZ film, but not as good to me as Battle of Gods.

The ending felt like a giant cop-out, Vegeta didn't get as much justice as he did in Battle of Gods, there's too much padding (but then again this is Dragon Ball Z), and I felt there was a lot of the cast missing compared to Battle of Gods.

Luckily, there is far more actual fighting I can remember in this film, which was really well animated (usually), the CG wasn't as egregious (though still overused for my tastes,) there were many really good comedic lines for the English dub, and Freeza himself was done really well. Also a big fan of Goku's new outfit. Kinda prefer Vegeta's Buu Saga outfit though.

Hoping for at least one more film, this time bringing back fusion, before the series ends for good. I've heard bad things about the animation in Dragon Ball Super...
