In a hypothetical world where each new game in a series brings something new to the table (doesn't have to be game changing) that impresses the players, this system tends to work fairly well. However, if that "gap" isn't large enough, the motivation a player has to play said game can be a tad bit lower.

For someone who is quite busy constantly due to school, among other things, picking a game to play usually tends to be a "one game" kind of thing. Meaning that when I am busy, I only really have time to dedicate one game to myself, assuming I am going to try to get "immersed" into whatever that game brings to the table. As of late, games being able to do this for me (keep me sucked in and it won't let go, that kind of thing) isn't happening as often as it has happened in the past.

So for me, having a game that is consistently good great AND blows my mind, to an extent, is incredibly important. To some this may be a bit of a shock, but I tend to compare new games that I play to League of Legends. Now before anyone freaks the fuq out. I do this because this game has the ability to make itself interesting despite multiple things being EXACTLY THE SAME each match. If a game can do that, it is doing something very very well. I guess you could say that from start to finish in a game I want my interest to either increase, or at the very least stay consistent, otherwise I will just end up playing other games (such as league of legends, minus the overly toxic community) that have yet to fail at doing that well, and I have put a shameful amount of days into that game.

    tl;dr

the game has to be better than what I am playing now consistently throughout the entire game or else I will just drop it for something else, which I don't want to do.

I feel like lately I've had a problem where anything I play isn't as interesting as what I was playing before. I think what I was playing before getting Bravely Default was Fire Emblem: Awakening and BD didn't quite do it for me, and I just dropped it. Even now, Smash and Fire Emblem remain my two favorite games I own, and I haven't even finished Majora's Mask 3D because of it.

This has been my issue for years. 9 times out of 10 I just default back to games that I know I can play over and over (in this case League of Legends, for the past few years at least). Sometimes I feel like it is me, but I don't want to think that is the case.

On an unrelated note, it has taken me this long to listen to 'What Does the Fox Say'. It's catchy.

    Wishlist for next Pokemon game:
    • bring back Trainer customization from X/Y and expand upon it (definitely more skin tones)
    • bring back Pokemon following your Trainer from HeartGold/SoulSilver
    • bring back well implemented touch controls for menus from HeartGold/SoulSilver
    • introduce new starter Pokemon type combos (Fire/Dark, Water/Psychic, Grass/Ghost?)
    • region based on say...Australia, Africa, or South America?
    • Mega Evolutions for every starter lacking one, Flygon, Luxray, Torkoal, Toxicroak, Kabutops, etc.
    • expand on availability of Move Tutors
    • much better Post-Game complete with new storylines a la Alpha/Omega (and finish Battle Frontier, damn it)
    • and a list of (some of) my own demanded Pokemon inspirations:
      • Komodo dragon (Dragalge was ok but a disappointment)
      • trap door spider (probably Ground/Bug?)
      • salamander with ballistic tongue
      • velociraptor pokemon (we seriously don't have one yet? Garchomp's the closest...)
      • evil butterfly thing (like, Ghost/Bug. Won't lie, inspired by Fatal Frame II)

It's a really good game, lots of replayability when you try to get all the kids/supports. It'll take you a few playthroughs to do it so every file provides incentive.

Like I said, I keep defaulting back to Smash Bros. or Fire Emblem. I have something like 13 games both physically and downloaded and I rarely touch more than Smash or Fire Emblem. Even the original Shantae game is proving hard for me to pay attention to.

Yes to all except the pokemon flowing you. The games are already slow enough in triple battles/tag battles, we don't need more.

since Fire Emblem came up in here I've been really interested in it again. i kind of want to get awakening asap. and then looking into If has me somewhat excited for that as well. what do people who actually know stuff about FE think about it being split into two games?
fantasy themes are really not my thing at all but something about FE seems so unique and appealing that it doesn't repel me

I may be misunderstanding you here, but are you implying that a pokemon following you around outside of battle will use up too many resources, and by extension, slow the game down. That's.....so unlikely lol.

Unless Game Freak's code is that bad. Thankfully they've improved in that department since Gold and Silver.

That was my point, I've used codes that utilize sprites 3x the size of the regular ones or more, and had no issues at all.

I'm sort of into Fire Emblem--I don't own any of the games, but I played a friend's copy of Blazing Sword (the GBA one that was just called Fire Emblem) one summer in middle school, and I have ROMs for both of the GBA ones as well as an English-patched New Mystery of the Emblem, but I haven't come close to beating any of them. So feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I'm pretty interested in the split for if. A lot of people are going "DURR HBURR NINTENDO'S JUST TRYING TO SELL THE SAME GAME TWICE" but if you actually pay attention to what the creators are saying, that's not the case at all. Each game is the same up through the sixth chapter, but after that change drastically. The White Kingdom game follows a more traditional Fire Emblem route and has the whole "kingdom/freedom fighters vs. evil empire" story going (though presumably with a little more nuance to it). The Black Kingdom game's plot, on the other hand, is about reforming the "evil" militaristic empire from within, and has fewer opportunities for EXP gains, requiring that extra layer of strategy; some have compared it to the older S/NES Fire Emblem titles in that regard. Each campaign alone is said to be at least as long as Awakening's, which I'm told is pretty long. I also love the idea of, as the player character, having to make that choice in the first place between two families who clearly care about you, but are on the brink of war with each other. So much character arc potential.

All that being said...I'm iffy on the necessity of releasing each campaign as a separate game. The digital version of if is only one game, which makes you choose one path once you hit the sixth chapter, locking you out of the other (until you buy the DLC containing the other campaign). It could be justified if having both campaigns present on one cartridge was too much memory...but a special edition of the game is also going to be released, featuring both campaigns (and the third DLC one) all on one cartridge, foregoing purchasing DLC from the eShop. So I don't know. I can certainly understand why Nintendo would go with releasing the game so many ways, though, given that they haven't been doing well financially lately (even if they're still a long ways off from any financial danger).

I ask because I initially resist that split model popularized by games like Pokemon, but if they're going to take advantage of the opportunity to split and make two games with dramatic differences, then I can see that as a justification. I do think it's absolutely done to sell the game twice, but if each one is worth it's own purchase and has distinct experiences then I think it's totally fine.

So I was moving my comic book ideas to my new tablet from my laptop and I found a three-page prologue I wrote for something entirely different. It seems interesting, but except for one aspect, I can't remember where I was going with it. Pretty sure I was high when I wrote it and now it's like "...so who did it?"
I DON'T KNOW, BUT I'M THE ONE THAT WROTE IT.

haha I hate that. I'll be writing a thing and then save it and come back to it like...months down the line. 'Whoa this is good. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?' but i have no interest in continuing it.
