That's how I felt. For a very long time. Then I had a match with someone in VF5U awhile back and it was... a new experience. He was an experienced player and was showing me the ropes but decided he was going to unleash the beast all over me... but I didn't want to take that sitting down. It ended up being a match of wits, dodging, combos, beat downs, and making a reaction to every possible thought process. It was an amazing time, and I won that fight... He won a lot more than me after, but there was something about that moment that clicked.

Besides then, I hear Nova talking about them a LOT... A LOT.... Seriously. Release a fighting game, he'll play it, cuddle it like a teddy bear at night, find a tourney for it, and just be happy to be there participating. It's admirable.

So with the exposure and the understanding, now we have the fact that I try to be studied in game design theory. I know things from trivia to actual mechanics and what their intents were to things like engine building and what comes from certain tech and specs. I could review games and probably do well at it (No, I will not). I can talk most games with a sense of intellect. Every genre... except fighting games. I want to correct that.

 

I remember playing the original Tekken and Bushido Blade. I have played almost every Tekken since. I don't consider myself a MLG pro type by any means. I am a very casual player. I tend to play a game to enjoy it and then forget about it and then pick it up in about a month.

That being said, I started playing Samurai Heroes again recently. Man, I love that game and wish Capcom USA hadn't screwed over the franchise in the West. I know I can import Utage and SB4 but I just can't really justify it with the holidays coming up.

The Sengoku BASARA games are pretty much large scale beat 'em ups. There's a whole lot of mooks that you just let loose on and then a boss or two in each stage. Some require a bit of strategy and then there's BASARA difficulty which is pretty much 'Holy ****, I got hit once and I'm down to 20% health.'

And I have played a Marvel vs Capcom game at some point. I should try that one again. I remember just raging at Galactus and I haven't played it since. Since I think I can unlock/recruit Taskmaster at some point in that game.

 

Arright, I couldn't wait. I played a bit of King of Fighter '02 to warm up and OH MY GOOOOOOOOD.

I don't know jack about Sengoku BASARA, but it sounds like a musou? If so, I'm supportive. That genre is full of games that give endless satisfaction.

TEKKEN WAS SOMETHING I WISH I ADDED :C Unfortunately, I only buy XBLA games digitally and there's no Tekken games on the XBLA, so no chance of a sale. Most of the games I listed I've picked up for $3~

 

so im going to try and finish reading deadman wonderland tonight. i kinda don't care anymore and want to get it out of the way. everything surrounding shiro's past is really, really sad, but i don't care about anything else. trying to read but i can't get el scorcho out of my head dammit

edit: done. i love everything surrounding shiro and ganta's past and relationship. care not at all for anything else. it's so sad.

I KNOW. Though I really love Hummingbird's about face in her first appearance. I rewatch that episode every once in a while just because it's so goddamn amusing to me. Though explaining to my non-anime-understanding roommate what the hell I was watching when she walked in and heard "WHY DON'T YOU JACK OFF INTO A BOTTLE OF FORMALDEHYDE AND CALL IT OUR FIRST BORN?" was just awkward.

 

So, I downloaded something to do and played it for a bit. Then I got off of it and decided to browse the internet. Things seem... smaller then before. So I'm not sure if the download had changed anything or if I just never noticed anything before. So in a fit of paranoia I deleted the download.

I'm starting to think I'm just being paranoid. Mostly because I can't quite remember how things looked pre-download to based my paranoia off of. Kinda hard to figure out if something is different or not because of it. Maybe it was because of the text of the thing I downloaded. It was all kinda big & squished so maybe just reading it made me think everything was smaller when it actually wasn't. :\

 

Also @Atlas, I'd recommend Persona 4 Arena to help you learn some fighting game mechanics, but I understand if it's out of your price range.

 

Like I said, it's not absolutely necessary, but if you're nervous it can't hurt.
