Same reason I'm looking for my copy. I had it years ago, and now it's gone and I need to because I've had an intense craving to finish it for about a year and a half now but I just can't find it.

No PlayStation game is worth that much. In fact, when they were still being sold in stores, most were only $19.99.

    What a ripoff!

Don't be so sure. Games that have been out of print and were "cult classics" can go for a lot.

You'd be surprised what people are willing to pay for physical copies.

This is why I'm thankful used copies exist; otherwise I would have never being able to get Final Fantasy VII (or rather my mom would have never been able to order it since she still does the ordering with her money, except around my birthday and Christmas when I give her the money I get and she puts it into her bank account to use). I also still need to get Breath of Fire III. I started a file when my friend brought it over a long time ago and haven't played it in a long time. It's his dad's game and he no longer lives at home. I also got stuck at that giant eyeball boss, so yeah.

Anyway, I try to get the like new ones if they're cheap enough, but if they're not cheap or there are none available I go for very good and so on.

So I got the weird urge to play through some old Scooby-Doo PC games and I just had a nostalgia attack

All the CD's of kids games are right behind me and I feel kinda weird wanting to play them all again...

Nah don't feel weird. Only thing keeping me from indulging in nostalgia is that the games won't function on my Macbook and my PC hasn't been properly maintained in years.

And I play Nancy Drew games.

Anyone know what's going on with my Firefox? Whenever I close all of my tabs, there's still one window left, but it doesn't have a tab at all.

NEVER MIND FOUND THE ADD-ON THAT WAS MESSING IT UP.

    Don't get ImageTweak anymore.

So there's a rumour (not complety sure it's confirmed so...) the Rick Riordan is going to kill off two main characters. Most people think one is going to be Leo.

Okay, you need to stop talking this subject until you learn the value of these items. You're comparing a clearance market to an after market. THESE ARE VERY DIFFERENT THINGS. I don't know where you're getting this $19.99 crap from either, but PS1 games launched from anywhere between $40 and $55. What Nate showed is a factory sealed copy of a cult classic, limited print game. It's going to be that price. A complete copy, which is a used product with a black label case and a manual, is around $40 on eBay. Amazon bloats up this stuff a ton, but they are selling sealed copies which are a rarity within a rarity. These things have value.

Now, look at Misadventures of Tron Bonne. It was a promotional release to hype up Mega Man Legends 2. Very limited release, and it didn't sell well. Now it's in demand. People want this game. How much for a complete? About $200. Absolutely worth it.

    You get a candy treat.

I should know. In stores, a lot of the PlayStation games bought for me were $19.99 and a lot of the PlayStation 2 games bought for me were $49.99. But even so, $40 - $55 was still reasonable, and it went DOWN. It shouldn't go back up after discontinuation.

Still a ripoff and absolutely not worth it. If I lost my copy of Dragon Quest VIII and there was only one copy in the world of it and it was $500, I wouldn't dare buy it, despite how much I like it.

Stop. You really have no idea what you're talking about now. I've tried to explain, I'm not reaching you, and you're still using anecdotal prices vs SOMEONE WHO RESEARCHES THIS DAILY AND WAS A FREQUENT GAME BUYER AT LAUNCH.

Stop. It's like you're trying to tell a physicist how physics works based off your experience with ragdoll.

Sorry. I didn't know this wasn't a free country and I was forbidden from expressing my opinions.

But that's not an opinion.... Like... Oh my god HOW DO I REECH DEESE KID

Seriously, someone explain to him why fuel prices go up or something. Someone explain supply and demand. I can't help him and he's infuriating me because I'm a collector.

Like, if there was one copy of Dragon Quest VIII left in the world... paying $500 to be the only one who has a copy of one of your favorite pieces of media?

That's like saying Picasso's shouldn't increase in value because he can't make paintings anymore.

Also, it's the internet. You don't need to pull the free country argument. There's multiple countries in this thread alone.

This is basically my reaction and I work retail.

Look, economy 101, it's supply and demand. If there's not a whole lot of a supply, there's going to be a lot of demand. If there's a lot of a supply, there's going to be not so much demand.

Speaking ideally of course. This is what usually makes designer clothing so expensive. As there's a limited quantity available. Your mass produced t-shirts on the other hand aren't going to cost so much.

So if a video game has been out of print for a long time and there's enough of a nostalgia factor attached to it, people will shell out cash for it.

Or like Atlas said, if the gas prices go up, there's a reason for it. Conflict in the middle east is usually the big one.

I just meant less of something people want, but yes, outside factors can raise a price too. In video games, Mega Man being announced for Smash up'd the price of his games because more people wanted them.

Like, he understands that an after market isn't a store trying to get product off the shelves right? It's people trying to get as much money out of something as possible and finding out what they'll pay

That I understand better because it's more important from a logical point of view. That's why it's pretty cheap in the winter and spring and expensive in the summer and autumn. More vehicles on the road means more demand.

At the same time, though, you kind of also think it'd be the other way, because think of this way: let's say that, regardless of the season, gas is always $3.00 a gallon. In the winter, let's say that in one day, 50 people get gas. That's $150 for whatever gas company in one day. Now, let's say in the summer, because there are more people traveling, 300 people get gas. That's $900 for whatever gas company in one day.

If they didn't raise prices in the summer, they'd still end up making more money in the summer.
