Not explicitly asexual anyway.

 

A friend of mine and I were discussing how asexuals and trans-gendereds have it a lot more difficult in media than gays or women.

 

Asexuals don't get mocked (as far as I know) and there are a lot of characters that implicitly are not interested in sex. Sucks that they aren't represented but I don't think that the media actively hurts them like most other minorities.

 

I'm not saying mocked (I don't think women are ever mocked either honestly), but equal representation for those sexual preferences is um... difficult. Gays and women are movie stars. Transgendereds are used as an insult still :/

I don't think women are mocked in media. I think misrepresented, objectified, and treated as the end to a joke are very different (this one is mocking). Women are even treated as the knowledge banks in sitcoms. That said, this isn't a place for fights and hasn't been for 133 pages, Mak. Fun fact: I enjoy watching boxing. Probably due to Punch-Out and Rocky movies, but no less I have fun when I catch a fight on TV.

 

I watched Pitch Perfect for the first time tonight. That was pretty great.

 

I personally prefer MMA, because it's closer to what I know and I can pick apart technique and strategy much easier.

On the asexual character thing: it's just kinda hard to write that as a thing and not make it a big deal, which is what most popular movies/books/games/etc feel the need to do. It's dumb, but yeah, it's gonna be a while for it to catch on. Hell, we're still waiting for more openly homosexual main characters in linear stories for non-indie video games...and I don't expect that such characters will be handled with much finesse for a while.
