You are complaining about people exploiting cards, but that's a problem with the cards not the people. People are allowed and expected to do everything in their power to win within the rules of the game. People who do that aren't exploiting it in a negative way, they are outplaying whoever isn't using all the tools available and deserve to win for being better at the game. I know that's not the point you were making but it's an important distinction I feel.

Now, the reason for newer sets overshadowing older ones is called power creep. It's basically a way to constantly give people a reason to buy more cards. Every playable trading card game does it to an extent, but Wizards of the Coast has avoided it nicely in recent years by endorsing the Sealed and Draft formats where people construct decks out of packs the buy on the spot, Standard and Modern formats which only include cards from more recent sets, as well as Vintage and Legacy for the people with the money to burn on thousand dollar cards. Each playtype either has no ban list or has one that cuts out less than 40 specific cards for the game's 21 year history. So they can afford to cycle the power level of the cards over the course of several years without invalidating much but the already bad cards from older sets. Like I said, Magic is really well designed even if I don't find it as entertaining as some people do. YuGiOh only has one tourney format and one ban list so they have to keep creeping to keep creeping to make things worth while to buy and they have to keep banning to make the players feel like they aren't getting cheated. So YuGIOh is incredibly poorly designed because of things like that.

I'm speaking from experience in other games. You don't repeatedly summon an attacker because you're wasting your time and effort because it's generic and could be replaced by anything. You summon things with abilities stapled on because you get value off of them and only they can do that thing. It's as simple as that.

Another reason YuGiOh is badly designed. 40 card decks aren't standard in Magic because they're far too consistent and take away the random element to the point where combo decks run rampant further driving up the cost of certain cards that counter that deck archetype and limiting the build options. There are a fair number of combo decks in Legacy and Vintage that would go off and get turn 0 or turn 1 victories if you could draw the right opening hand, but with a seven card opening hand and 60 cards instead of 40 those decks are completely beatable by other decks because they don't have the same level of consistency they would otherwise have. I understand the YuGiOh has a 3 of rule instead of a 4 of rule for copies of the same card making the combo deck thing less of an issue, but it still does make that deck archetype better.

 

yeah but when it leaves the field it's removed from play, even if it would be returned to the deck. to me that seems like a fair trade.
granted, i've never played with someone who uses the card so i don't know all the strategies that could take advantage of it. and i dont generally play using predefined strategies. i kinda just play with decks with monsters i like using strategies that those use. ie a few spellcaster decks. elemental hero decks. junk etc warrior deck. and stardust dragon deck.
and i should say its been quite a while since ive played ygo and ive only ever played on tagforce. even though i collected the cards i never played with them except once or twice and we had no idea what we were doing. so although i love ygo im vastly inexperienced with playing the game competitively

That "removed from play" aspect would make that card fucking INSANE in my Twilight Dragon deck, which focuses on banishing monsters :P

But maybe I could jump on Dueling Network or something. No clue if any of my decks are still there.

 

see im still not used to something being removed from play not actually being removed from play lol.
they never should ahve brought that section into play. basically a 2nd graveyard.

as much as i like the idea of duelingnetwork replicating what its like playing the game irl, i would rather be able to play the game without worrying about all that stuff if i dont have to. playing a game irl isn't automatically better.

 

One of my friends tried to commit suicide tonight. She tried to overdose on muscle relaxers which I guess she regurgitated. She dialed 911 and is at the hospital.

And I just...

I knew she was stressed because of her grades and her parents. But I didn't...expect her to go this far.

I guess she's going to be okay.

And meanwhile, my body decides to be in pain during all of this.

Because I'm not double posting just for an update

She's in the hospital getting medical help. It is so much of a relief to just see that simple post from her.

My pain hasn't gotten any better and I made it through work by ...determination, I think. It feels like a pinched nerve and I've dealt with that before.

 

Your friend will be in my thoughts, hit me up if you need any help.

She says she's thinking about talking to a therapist or someone. A councilor at the hospital had a talk with her and suggested it. I told her it couldn't hurt since I saw therapists in high school for my emotional issues. [That turned out to just be PMS x 100 as I found out years later. ] The councilor thinks it's depression.

Honestly, it makes me feel so much better just to be able to talk to her again. She's not 100% yet but we're going to work on it one day at a time. That's kind of how I take things. She's a good friend.

If nothing else, I've been through this exact thing before. I know how to help her through it.

 

In "medicine" most people are biased towards things they work with/for. A doctor who constantly hands out anti depression pills to his patients is most likely going to think someone's "problem" is depression.

That of course is not to belittle what your friend is going through, I know that **** all too well, it sucks.

 

Well, after getting the fact a Blue Yeti here was 4000+ of my currency, with import taxes and all, I began to search around Amazon and stuff for USB Mics.

My only purchase so far in music-related things is a Samson Carbon 49 which is my MIDI Keyboard, so I found they make also mics and I though "Eh, sure why not?"

I previously showed interest in their GO Mic due to plug and play-ease of installation, and the fact it has a headphone jack in. But I digged in deeper and discovered the Samson Meteor Mic.

Which is basically the GO Mic but with a sturdier body (Trust me, IT FELL ON THE FLOOR ACCIDENTALLY BEFORE I TESTED IT AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY) and if I read properly better sound quality.

Obviously I saw some reviews of it beforehand,

tl;dr I got a Samson Meteor Mic because I'm biased due my Samsom MIDI Keyboard, and I just love having a Headphone Jack.
