I'm eager to hear, because, as Vivi helps put it

Like, every review of Yaiba I've read or even glanced at has been disappointed with the game. Even Liam of the Super Best Friends Zaibatsu, who wanted to like it, didn't find it good at all :<

guys, i have absolutely destroyed the word below for myself.
whenever, wherever I see it, I immediately think of khv and myself

what's more, I was thinking to myself earlier today and it occurred to me that I called myself Below in my head.
and then it occurred to me that i've been doing this for a while
i sometimes forget my name's Chris. eugh

I think I might be back. Or at the very least I'm willing to give it another go. I had to make it through another holiday in a retail environment. Stress/anxiety everywhere and I didn't really need khv just adding to it. I lurked and found solace in music.

I sometimes still don't feel real safe here but there's a handful of people that I enjoy here. And for them, I'm willing to stick it out.

I sometimes think of myself as Laurence and not as [name witheld] sometimes. Odd how this place gets under your skin.

    I'll be quick.

    This review is golden.

Yaiba's backlash is the best instance I can use where all the garbage reviewers say constantly about a game reaches full culmination. The truth about Yaiba is this: Like Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox before it, it feels like a game made around the character and not an instance where the character was made around the game. Originally, Ninja Gaiden did this with Ryu Hayabusa. Because he was well trained, his combat was very intricate and because he was a ninja he had fast, responsive movements and excellent parkour skills. Yaiba is a character who's the complete opposite of Ryu. He's a *******. He was someone who preferred to kill and drink over training so he never learned things like intricate moves, or combos. He can't even jump. Because of this approach, NGZ has made a brutal hack n' slash title instead of a brutal character-action entry. Yaiba is very aggressive in combat with weapons that feel over the top and swords that feel like swords as opposed to clubs. His moves all focus on crowd control and destroying piles of enemies left and right. The game is insane and very balls to the wall. This comes naturally as Ryu was a very serious character who didn't react to anything while Yaiba is, again, a *******. The perfect comparison to these characters is the archetype most easily recognized from the two character Jin and Mugen from Samurai Champloo. I mean, even the art styles have that clash where Ninja Gaiden has generally very clean art where as Yaiba's is just vibrant mush. It also helps that Yaiba's entire goal is to kill Ryu and they pay off on this at the perfect time with a one-on-one boss fight where Ryu has all of his abilities and even the Inazuma Slam so it really feels like being an NPC in Rising trying to take down Raiden- just seeing what it's like to be so limited against a CAG character is clever enough. But then it gets taken a step up because DID I MENTION THIS GAME IS BALLS HARD? I mean it. On normal, this game will SWAT YOU. That is, until you learn it. Until you learn how to approach each fight and how to reflexively react to most threats then you're going to get beaten down. I have a friend who is number 3 on the Killer is Dead leaderboards and has platinum'd MGR. This friend told me he had to start on easy and take it slow. Now he's able to kick it around on hard. I did the same so far so I could have more fun a first go because NORMAL HURTS. This game also has a SIDESCROLLER MODE where it emulates the original Ninja Gaiden but with new levels, and Yaiba. Another sweet piece of content on top of the difficulties mattering, costumes, and weapons weapons weapons. So basically, if you enjoy adapting and learning a game's rules rather than coming in and knowing everything then as well as repeat playthroughs to better your skills, then you'll enjoy Yaiba. The only way you won't like Yaiba is if you don't realize games are interactive and reviews are a reaction to that interaction. You have to keep a level head or you'll just look like an idiot and insult some brilliant work because you got spanked.

Also keep in mind how that EXAMINER reviewer actually focuses on interactive elements like rules, combat, and feedback while actual game publications focus too much on higher elements and review the game like it's a one-go type of experience when it never intended to be the Last of Us.

if I'm zoning out or just plain ignoring and someone says below aloud, it immediately gets my attention
although i don't think anyone's named "Below" irl so I doubt I'll ever mistake someone else's name for mine lol

Jiku Neon and my real life equivalent are pretty far divorced. Almost like two separate people that share the same exact information and logical processes. It doesn't hurt that the Jiku Neon tag is only ever used and has only really ever been used here. Best way to put it is I don't take anything with me into the drift.

Suffice it to say, I've never strongly identified with this character to the point where I ever thought of myself as Jiku Neon.

I use talewind as my username on a few online places, but I don't whip around every time someone says the word "tale." Or even "tail," because that's just not relevant at all. :P

I do try to be pretty honest with myself online, if a lot more bold and kawaii desu.

There's a demo, right? Cause I wanna try it out now after you said a lot of stuff that I agree with when it comes to variety in games.

Team Ninja put out some really good videos for it. I believe Spark Unlimited and Comcept did too. Watch them now that you've read my wall of text and see how the game looks to you.

Growing up in school nobody called me by my first name so there was a time where if my parents said "Ryan" I just didn't respond because I was so used to being called by my last name. Now THAT is saddening.
