    Three Years Ago
    ---------------------------------

The Elanus had entered uncharted territory far outside of Coalition space. With the nearest Gravity Rail being a month's travel in the opposite direction the Elanus was headed at maximum speed, civilization as its crew knew it was as far as it could be.

Captain Irrin Quint leaned back on his chair as his eyes gazed upon the empty blackness of the void that was shown to him on the screen. This would be the same view he would have for many more light-years. As he turned towards his bridge crew, noticing his helmsman doze off due to the monotony of checking his console to ensure everything was running smoothly Captain Quint ordered the young Varuna girl to head to her quarters to get some much needed rest. After her replacement arrived to relieve her of duty, the ensign thanked him before quickly heading towards the lift to leave the bridge.

    "
I understand we have been through this mission for two months now but the Coalition had detected communications from this sector. Has the interference you've been picking up cleared by now, Lieutenant?" He questioned his communications officer, turning in his seat to face the man.

    "
No sir. For the past several days it has remained steady but just now it spiked. I'm picking up a weak signal along with it. I don't think this is static, captain."

    "
Then we have arrived. Hold position here, helmsman. Lieutenant, prepare to send a message on all frequencies."

    "
    But sir...there's nothing around us."

    "
    You have my orders."

    "
Aye sir. Ready for your message, captain."

At long last, the Elanus had arrived at the location of the mysterious communication Coalition Intelligence had received. Though he commanded the flagship, he still questioned their orders for him. He was no diplomat well-versed in making first contact. He was a soldier. Still, they saw fit to send him.

    "
This is Captain Irrin Quint, a representative of the Galactic Coalition. Your people has made contact with our own and we would hope that you reveal yourself so we may begin to make peaceful communication." There was a long pause. Nothing happened. Quint leaned on the armrest of his chair, his eyes fixed on the screen. "This is a representative of the Galactic Coalition. We come in peace. Can you show yourself?" Again, there was no response.

    "
Lieutenant, is there anything wrong with your equipment?" There was a moment of silence.

    "
No sir. Everything checks out. If there's anything out there, they should be reading us."

Annoyed, Quint rubbed his chin. They had come too far just to be chasing after nothing. "
This is Captain Quint, do you-"

The entire ship rocked as a flash of light covered the screen. Alert sirens rang out. The distant sounds of explosions across all the other decks echoed through the bridge as the hull creaked and gave way to the massive force that struck the Elanus.

    "
Sir! Our weapons were just taken out! Shields are down and the hull as been breached. Fires have broken out across all decks."

As the Lieutenant continued to read him the status of the ship, Captain Quint stared at the damaged screen in shock. In just one instant he knew his ship was lost and with it the lives of his crew. He knew that the last thing he would ever see was the structure which had attacked them so viciously materializing before his eyes, having been invisible the entire time. Its mere geometry along with the haunting grotesque sounds that gargled through the communication channels horrified him.

    Present Day

Captain Altius looked through her duty roster, taking note of any notable crew members that were boarding the ship today. The Ouranos, her ship, was one of the few Horizon class starships that had been constructed and sported a state-of-the-art Aether Drive. She wasn't fond of the fact that her ship's source of power was also highly classified and wondered how her engineers would manage to work with such mysterious technology. Even though she was assured that operations would be similar to that of older Tachyon driven ships, she was not happy about this.

Almira walked out of the airlock and onto the docking platform to which the Ouranos was attached. The ship was scheduled to leave within two hours and the last straddlers of her crew had not yet checked in. Perhaps they were enjoying their time off before their first assignment on the station. Peras Station 1. The oldest of the starbases littered throughout Coalition territory that sat at the outer edge of the Peras star system. As such, the station contained far more luxuries than other bases, many of which were strictly for ship maintenance.

She impatiently checked the time on her roster screen as she waited by the docking platform, the only entrance to the ship, and gazed up through the see-through ceiling of the hall to watch as other ships docked and left the station. Even if she was not used to the stars here, she could not help but marvel at the beauty of it all.

With a sigh, Irrin placed his glass down and glanced at the other uniformed Coalition officers around the Officer's Club. All but him wore uniform designating them to the Corps whereas his black coat and altered insignia marked him as a member of Coalition Intelligence. Thankfully, the lot around him did not recognize his face. These days he kept to himself as any who heard his name would immediate make the connection to the infamous Elanus Incident and resort to mockery or violence against him. It was easier to stay away from everyone else.

Irrin checked the time. Two hours before he needed to board the Ouranos. He waited at the club, purposefully doing his best to kill time just to ensure he would be the last to board the vessel. He ordered another drink. The best thing about being in a member of the Coalition was that there was no currency. Trade routes had been established but currency, along with the greed it brought, had been abolished long ago.

His eyes went towards the closed off area across the floor where colorful flashing lights could just barely be seen from under the cracks of wide double doors. Luck's Den, was the only place in all the starbases across Coalition territory where one could gamble. "Gamble" being a loose term considering the currency employed in its many games were useful only within the confines of the establishment. Outside, the tokens used had no value. Irrin rolled his eyes as a drunken ensign was dragged out by Coalition security.

    "
Should've stayed on the upper levels, kid." Irrin muttered as he took a swig of his drink. "I hear the art displays and shops are so much better for your health."

Yvette itched to leave, got anywhere but remain where she was. She hated sitting around waiting tfor the time to go. It was too stuffy in the room she waited. She didn't have room to fly around and she didn't have a ship to fly yet. She was grounded, but not for long. It was finally time to head to the ship where she was assigned and she was more than ready to go. A grin crossed Yvette's face as she stood up and exited the room in a rush.

The hall ways were too narrow or else she would have flown through them as she maneuvered her way towards the docks. Even without using her wings, she was able to swiftly make her way towards the bay, more quickly than most, though most wouldn't try. She tried to slow her pace as she got to the docking area. She didn't want to seem too over the top eager to the captain of the ship, she wanted to make a good first impression in the end after all.

Straightening her uniform Yvette approached the
Captain who seemed to be waiting in front of the ship. Stepping in front of her, Yvette saluted the woman. "Ensign Yvette Greer reporting for duty sir... er ma'am!" Yvette announced standing up perfectly straight holding the solute for a moment. "Permission to board ma'am?" She then asked the captain. It seemed like a silly question, she was assigned to this ship after all, but she still felt the need to ask.

Clarity wandered the Peras Station 1, slowly making her way back to the ship. It had been wonderful, seeing the new sights and enjoying the different people that were gathered here. Clarity loved being deployed into space, and surrounded by stars. It was similar to the vast oceans of her home planet, except none of the waters she had ever swam in carried the small orbs of gas that dotted the skies. She sighed; two hours was not such a long time that she would be able to explore the rest of the station as she had wished. Perhaps if she hadn't gotten so caught up talking to a fellow Varun, then perhaps....

The flashing lights on her left caught her attention, and she stood still for a moment, trying to discern exactly what the establishment was. Since she had started on the farthest sides of the station, making her way back towards the docking bay, she hadn't payed any attention to the buildings or busineses in this area. This looked to be little more then an exclusive club of some sorts, and Clarity shrugged before moving on her way. She loved to dance, but alcohol had never been her calling.

Someone shoved past her, then grabbed her arm. Clarity spun, her reaction a little slower as the man grabbed her other wrist. "Hey purty." he slurred, the whiskey on his breath a clear indication of his sobriety. Clarity wrinkled her nose. "Please let go of me, sir." He only leaned in closer, and she had to wonder if he had even heard her words. "You're bluuuuuuue."

She suppressed a laugh, not wanting to encourage the drunken ensign. "I am a Varun. It's normal for us to be blue or green. Perhaps you should read more then drink." His hands tightened to the point of pain, and she grimaced. "Let go, please." She accented the word, hoping it would somehow make it through the cloud of liquor that obviously fogged his brain. She was not well versed in the ways of fighting, but she knew some methods of self defense. A shame to use it on a drunk, though.

Brianne stepped out of the elevator doors, strolling into the VR room. The doors closed behind her, leaving her completely alone. Just the way she wanted it. "Computer, run exercise Mindoir, colony attack."

"Exercise Activated." The male voice, smoothed and automated, responded to her request. The simulation rose up around her in all the time it took for her to blink. She pulled the virtual pistol from her hip, aiming as she waited. She knew this particular virtual reality by heart. Because she had lived it.

"3. 2." The AI began to count down, and Brianne took a deep breath, forcing the rush of oxygen into her bloodstream, giving her muscles more strength. Her aim straightened, then held. "1." Immediately, she was pushed into hell, the screams of the dying and injured filling her ears. Brianne stood over the body of a civilian. The virtual reality didn't have enough data to put faces on the colonists of Mindoir, but Brianne knew it was Rae Lynn at her feet, arms thrown up to shield herself. Brianne took aim, and fired at the slaver who moved towards her, the bullet hitting his skull. As he dropped, she was already taking aim again, a second slaver trying to make off with a teenage girl on his shoulder.

She paused, her own memories flashing through her mind. That day, there had been no one to save her. Narrowing her eyes, Brianne shot the slaver twice in the back for good measure before ducking, using her elbow to knock the wind out of the attacker behind her before throwing him over her shoulder and stamping down on his neck, crushing his windpipe.

    She was just getting started.

"...And so you see, every electron knows about the state of every other electron. This is not exactly faster than light exchange of information rather it's..." The tall man waved his hands vaguely as he spoke "It's difficult to explain in words. It's much easier explained in equations, I draw your attention back to the board" He pointed with his cane at some scrawlings on the side of some ancient rusted bit of machinery "Hey, are you listening?" The masked man snapped his fingers. The audience didn't seem fazed. This was partly because they consisted of rocks. "Sigh" He said. "You'll never graduate at this rate. Anyway, tonight's homework is to write a 5000 word essay on Gravitational Waves and their impact on ice cream. Class dismissed" the rocks did not move. After several moments of the man glaring at one of them, it shifted slowly away. With a tut, he walked away. Calling it walking wasn't quite right, it was more like gliding across the sand. He took shelter in a bit of machinery and gazed out over the empty desert that had once been populated, until the man's fatal mistake. "Typical. Can't get the students anymore, how am I ever going to rebuild the Truth Machine?" he asked the empty air. Slowly, he unfolded from his sitting position and walked up the wall until he was standing upside down in the husk of the machine. Once there, he sat and stared out at the upside down world. "I suppose sometimes you just need a change in perspective" he looked down below him, at the sky. With the lack of light pollution on this now abandoned world, space was unfurled before him, a million stars scattered across a carpet of night.

Aeros had stepped off the elevator and onto Deck 8 - The VR Room. There was no real reason behind him being here other than shear curiosity. The door leading into the VR are room was closed, but on the window next to the door, Aeros could see just what was going on inside and it wasn't at all what he was expecting. The glass was sounds proof (cause why not) so he couldn't hear anything that was going on inside the room, but he could see well enough. Digital recreations of people dying as well as being killed and in the middle of all this was Brianne.

Almira's focus had been fixed on one particular name that had been assigned to her ship at the last minute. Irrin Quint. Of all those who could have been chosen, Coalition Intelligence saw fit to assign the formerly exalted, now infamous, captain on the Ouranos. She had known very little of the Elanus Incident but from what she had heard whispers of...the rumors only made her want to meet this man in person to determine for herself what kind of officer he was. Only then would she make her judgment.

As she looked up from the roster, a
young Maraku girl walked up to her, asking permission to board after introducing herself. The slight alterations made for their species' uniforms was enough to give it away. Maraku uniforms were slightly thicker, having to make room for that little extra padding to keep their kind from breaking bones during particularly strenuous activities in higher gravitational environments, and on the back were special openings to allow a Maraku to slide their wings in and out of without worrying about contaminants slipping into the uniform.

    "
Permission granted, Ensign Grear." Captain Altius looked the girl over, noticing more than just a little pep in the young girl's step. Almira lowered her gaze to the tablet she held, raising her eyebrow upon catching the name of the helmsman who was to take the Ouranos out of the docks. "It looks like you will be taking us out of Peras Station. I'm sure you're more than equipped to handle that. One day you will look back on this as the first step towards something greater than yourself." Almira stepped to the side to allow the ensign to pass, offering a small smile of confidence.

    "
You'll be expected at your post 90 minutes. Until then, feel free to familiarize yourself with the Ouranos. Any questions, ensign?"

Yvette waited impatiently as the Captain checked a few things on her tablet before allowing her on. She was excited to start this mission and get out into the open air and fly. She wanted fly, if not by her own wings than in a ship. Soon enough though permission was granted for her to board on top of being informed she was to pilot the ship. "Yes Ma'am I can handle that. Thank you Ma'am." Yvette responded to Almira. She was about to board when Almiria spoke up once more. "No questions Ma'am, I will be there on time." She assure the woman before finally taking her first steps onto the ship.

The inside felt bigger than it looked. There was so much she could explore but only two places interested her. Yvette wanted to see where she would be piloting from, and how the ship operated. She hoped no one would mind if she went do the engine room just to take a look. She didn't particularly have a talent for repairing large engines, but she liked to look at them, seek to understand them.

On her way to the correct deck Yvette tied her hair up in a ribbon, making sure it was out of her way when she entered the engineering area. Stepping in the room she tried to keep out of all the works way while she looked around in amazement. It was one thing just to see machines at work, but it was another to see people working on them as well. She loved it. She slowly entered the room more, glancing around to see if anyone was going to stop her. She hoped they wouldn't, it wasn't like she was touching anything, just admiring the beauty of it all. That being said none of this could ever compare to the beauty of the open skies.

The Varuna are often said to walk on land how fish swim in water, but Relaganos was different. The Security officer moved more like water itself -quickly, silently, and fluidly- as he moved through the crowd. Due to his species' biology, he felt the vibration of the music around him within his bones much more than those actually enjoying the music. His eyes were narrowed, a bit sensitive to the changing neon lights. Though the club was crowded, Rel effortlessly moved without making physical contact with anyone else. Unless one knew what to look for, Rel's movements were indiscernible from anyone dancing. As such, he moved from the office to the exit in one gallant trip, like the flow of a current.
He wasn't there for enjoyment -Rel was far too serious for that- but for employment. The Lieutenant was a semi-recent graduate of the Coalition Corps Academy. He had successfully applied to be a Security Officer on the ship in which he trained -the Mendes- and should have been three months in to his first space voyage. That is, until he found out he was reassigned to the Ouranos' maiden voyage. He wasn't bitter about the decision -the inconvenience coupled with his excellent Academy scores resulted in an immediate officer position- but he ended up with three months of free time. So he got a job. It wasn't much of one, mostly security but the occasional custodial or maintenance task, really whatever his boss needed. Now that it was time to officially leave as a Coalition officer, Rel had asked his boss if he could continue to work there whenever he was off duty. As that was a routine deal for Coalition officers, there was the appropriate paperwork to file. So here he was, just having signed his official Permanent Off-Duty Employment Form 14b.
And of course, because the universe had some form of a sense of humor, as soon as he clocked out on his "last" day, he realized he wasn't done working security. Spotting the drunk getting a bit too handy with a uniformed officer, Rel stepped between them and gently placed a hand on the drunk's arm. Keeping the "Bouncer" air on for a few more minutes, Rel told him, "I'm blue and I'd like to dance with you more than she does." He said it gently and nodded to the female Varuna before adding in a very serious voice, "And I do not want to dance with you at all."

"And...that...does it!" A collective sigh punctuated the statement as Lieutenant Commander Blackthorn stepped away from the door. The three Engineer ensigns that accompanied her nodded and one grabbed the device from Kyra as another held a card to the door's panel. A single quick whoosh and the door was open. "See? No more squeaking. Now I know this may seem like it's a bit too tedious to worry about a single door's hinges on a ship of this size, but as we learned, it wasn't oil that the door needed." She pointed to the device in the Ensign's hand, "Instead, a magnetic tightening of a loose screw. Tedious, yes, but one loose screw inside a sliding door could become a screw lost inside the wall," she tapped on the metal, "and then a jammed door. As Engineers, we take no chances with our ships. Understood?" After confirming their understanding, Kyra dismissed them. She had taken two Ensigns from the Ouranos and one who was visiting from another ship and checked the Ouranos from top to bottom back to top (minus the areas the Ensigns were forbidden to enter) and checked every single thing after the Ouranos' Engineering officers had already completed all of their checks. Of course, they either missed this door or simply didn't care.

The drunken man and Clarity both turned to look at the intruder on their altercation; Clarity with grateful surprise, the drunk with bleery and reddened eyes. To be honest, she wasn't sure he had processed half of what the other Varun had said. "Why the hell would I want to dance with you? You're a...." The man asked, stumbling back slightly.

Clarity tried to yank her wrists free, which only served to nearly pull the unsteady alcoholic towards her. The only thing keeping him from actually touching her with more then his hands was the other
Varun, who's own fingers had a hold on the rude man's arm. "If this is how your people pick mates, it's a wonder you were ever born." She observed, gritting her teeth as the drunk's fingers tightened, her efforts to escape only having made it worse.

"I don't think he can hear you, sir. Much less understand you're actually speaking a language." She said to the
Varun who had intervened. By now the pressure on her wrists was actually starting to bother her, and she didn't want to have to explain any awkward bruising to her commanding officer, nor her crew mates. Time out in space was long enough without rumors flying, especially rumors about her.

She stepped inward, using her foot to crush the toes of her assailant before twisting one of her wrists out of his grasp, using the force of the action to pull the other free. As she stepped away, she realized that he was going to either hit her, or tackle her. Neither seemed a pleasant outcome. "Why do people feel the need to drink themselves to a less intelligent state?" She murmured, moving out of the way.

Brianne was too focused on the mission to realize she was being watched. Save as many civilians as possible. Defend the colony as long as you can hold out.She had made it to five minutes so far. A record. There was a reason no other crew mates played through this scenario, or tried to beat her records. Somehow they simply knew that this was hers. She had to do this, had to prove that had she been there, ten years older and wiser, she could have saved them. Saved herself.

Pointing the gun at another slaver, she narrowed her eyes and squeezed the trigger, hitting him in the back of his skull. He dropped like a ton of rocks, just as she felt a pain in her side. The VR could never simulate injury in the actual amounts, instead just using small increments to let the person know they had been hit. She turned and fired, hitting the attacker in the chest, before taking out his back up. She knew she was screwed when she felt the tingling bloom across her back, imitating the spread of a shotgun. Brianne fell to her knees, temporarily stunned, as the VR room shifted back to it's blank walls.

Brianne wiped her sweaty hair out of her eyes and stood, heading towards the exit. It wasn't until she had left the VR room that she realized she had been watched. "Can I help you,
Ensign?" Brianne put on her best commander voice, waiting for Aeros' response. She didn't like being watched, not in such a private moment.

The longer that Aeros stood there, the more he couldn't help but to wonder what it was that was going in the the VR room. Was she doing this on some kind of advanced training? That would explain why everything looked liked it did.

While Aeros was thinking about tho, he didn't notice that not only did the VR come to an end, but Brianne had stepped out and was currently questioning him. "I came down to see the VR room Commander, I didn't think someone would be using it." Aeros replied.

Rel kept his grip on the drunk as the young woman stomped on him and released herself. Though his grip was loose, he didn't lose hold. The moment she was free and the drunk took a step toward her, Rel was instantly between them, his grip tightening. In one fluid movement, he placed his foot between the man's feet, crouched, and pulled the man over his body as he spun and straightened out, dropping the man on his back. Rel stood up, placing a foot on the man's chest. His heartbeat stayed steady throughout the whole ordeal. "I may not be a superior officer, but," he turned around, seeing the bar's security moving toward them, "I believe that's a demerit." As the bouncers grabbed the patron and hauled him away, Rel turned to the female officer. He pointed to the red bands on his uniform. "Security Division," he noted. "Also, security here." He pointed back inside. "Even though I am no longer working here until I return from my deployment, I apologize for that patron, ma'am."

"Captain Altius?" Kyra asked as she approached the Captain. As soon as she was close enough, she stood straight and saluted. "Engineering Lieutenant Commander Kyra Blackthorn, reporting for duty!" She held the hand to her head. Even though she technically reported earlier, that was just a formality as she needed entrance to the ship for personal inspection. Now it was time to officially report for her position. "It will be an honor to serve under you as part of the Ouranos -Yes, it will be, hush-. You will be happy to hear that the ship has passed every official inspection by the Coalition, our own Engineers, and an extra one by myself -Of course you helped- with flying colors," she kept her salute as she spoke, knowing her rank (though not waiting for permission to speak). Her platinum hair was tied into a tight ponytail -its "currently busy with engineering stuff" look- and she was ready to let it down. "If I can speak freely, it is a grand ship -shut up, yes it is- and I cannot wait to see it in action."

Clarity waved off the man's apology gently before pointing to her own uniform. "Medical." she replied. "And I'm sorry to have made your last day so eventful." She shook her head as she watched the drunk get hauled away. "I believe I've lost any desire to try any form of alcohol." She observed, rubbing her wrists with a frown. "Although perhaps I should invest my time in better self defense responses. Thank you, for helping me." She turned to Rel with a smile. "I'd hate to take up any more of your time before you're deployed. You should enjoy yourself here, if you can. Deployments are not easy for some to bear."

    Unsure of
Rel's rank, Clarity settled for a quick salute before heading back towards the Ouranos. That way she wouldn't offend him, or embarrass herself more then she had already.

"I see." Brianne looked at Aeros with a small frown, trying to analyze him. Fortunately for the Ensign, her mind was otherwise occupied. "Well, if you'd like to use it, it's free now." She decided, turning and heading towards the elevator. "Although you should start slow. Too intense of a situation too fast can force your brain into shock. Given that we're deploying soon, I would assume you want to be awake and on your feet for the take off." She pressed the button on the elevator, waiting for the doors to open.

"What happens in the VR room, stays in the VR room, Ensign." She finished, glancing at him before stepping into the elevator. Whether
Aeros decided to join her on the way back to the flight deck was his prerogative.

Yvette had enjoyed exploring the engine room, however soon she felt like she was just in everyone's way. She supposed it was time to head towards her station anyway, even though she still had time. She would rather be really early than even a minute late after all. Giving a smile and a thank you to some of the engineers she passed, Yvette headed back towards the stairs. She could have taken the elevator but she could use the exercise anyways.

Running up the stairs, taking them two steps at a time, Yvette made good time heading towards the bridge. She was going to be flying them to their destination she she figured that she should familiarize herself with the controls. After the training she had been through she could fly pretty much anything, but she felt better taking a look over it first, just to make sure things went smoothly.

Smiling Yvette sat down at the controls and looked out at the sky waiting beyond. She ran her fingers lightly over some of the controls and buttons. Everything seemed familiar enough that she was confident about her ability to fly. Yvette leaned back and just thought about what it would be like to fly for a moment. She imagined how nice it would be once they were in the air and she had control over the ship. It would be amazing. She couldn't wait. She knew it wasn't long till they took off but it still felt like an eternity waiting.

Almira turned to face the Lieutenant Commander, shaking her head at the young woman before her. "At ease, Blackthorn." When Kyra had begun speaking to herself in the midst of her speech, Captain Altius recognized this easily as a trademark of their shared species. On their homeworld of Seten, it was a common sight to see the Setesh people talk to themselves in response to their Ryve partner. Talking to oneself out loud was neither looked down upon or strange to their people.

Smiling with some pride at her engineer's persistence to ensure that the ship was in working order, Almira made sure to commend Kyra. "
It is good to see you so passionate about keeping our new ship in top form. It would be quite the embarrassment if the Ouranos could not preform at launch." The captain tilted her head up to gaze at the ship. While not the largest in the fleet, by right of being the flagship, it was made to be the most advanced vessel in the entire Coalition. "These new Horizon-class ships are quite the marvel, Miss Blackthorn."

Irrin rose from his chair, leaving the Officer's Club and passed by Luck's Den on his way towards the docks. He had waited around long enough and surely by now most of the crew had made it onto the Ouranos. When approaching the docks, the Intelligence Officer slowed his pace upon seeing an Engineering Division officer speaking to Captain Altius. Adjusting his coat, Irrin headed towards the airlock to pass by the captain only for her to speak towards him as he approached.

    "
Inspector Quint I presume, judging by your uniform. I would wish to speak with you in my office after we disembark." Her voice was curt as her eyes flashed towards him. Irrin stopped just a few feet away to observe the Captain and her tone. Of course, he knew this would come. Any sensible captain would wish to know if he was a danger to their crew or would interfere with its operation.

    "
Of course, Captain. I will be ready when you need me." Irrin walked by the engineer and captain without another word, entering the airlock and passing through the primary cargo deck. Irrin nodded at the efficiency of having the main entrance lead to cargo. It was easier to manually haul out than transporting it through other decks. Of course, more sensitive and volatile inventory was stored on the lower deck, 10, for safety purposes. Heading towards the lift, Irrin clasped his hands behind his back as he thought of where to head to next. Engineering might have been the best choice if he had also been an engineer in his Academy days but he allowed himself to trust the Ouranos's engineers to keep the ship from exploding. So, instead, he saw fit to head to the metaphorical brains of the ship. The bridge.

    "
Deck 5." In seconds the lift had stopped at his destination, doors swinging open to the open and familiar space that was the bridge. At its center was the Captain's Chair and, in front at the bow, were the helmsman's seat and the tactical seat as well as their respective consoles. A young ensign was already examining the helmsman's controls. "You must be the first on duty, ensign...?" He made a pause to allow for the pilot to give him her name. "Inspector Quint. Does everything appear to be in working order?" Though he would have preferred to check the console himself, the look on the face of the girl would be all he needed in order to judge whether or not she was competent enough to be flying the flagship of the Coalition. It was not that he doubted her training, it was just that he had to be thorough when it came to the bridge crew.

Yvette jumped up and saluted when a man approached her. He was a higher rank then her, but that was not hard, everyone was a higher rank than she was. "Grear, Sir. Yvette Grear." Yvette replied to the man when he seemed to be asking for her name. Inspector Quint then asked if things seemed to be in working order. Yvette blushed slightly as she sat back down. She didn't actually properly check over anything yet, she was simply familiarizing herself with the controls once more and day dreaming about flying.

Yvette began to flip a couple switches and hit a few button which in the end lit up the console and got it ready to go. She checked everything was in the correct positions before flipping a few things on and off to check that they were in working order as well.
"Everything appears to be in working order Sir. Everything should go smoothly on this end." Yvette at last replied as she turned back to the Inspector at last. The name he gave her sounded slightly familiar, but she couldn't pin point why off the top of her head. As long as she treated him with the utmost respect everything should be perfectly find.

Kyra marveled at the Ouranos beside her captain. Her posture relaxed slightly and she sighed. "Indeed they are." She stayed silent for a moment, running through a check-list in her head with Ryve. "Oh! I need to make sure I didn't forget any of my tools! Shut up, you're the tool If you'll excuse me, Captain Altius," she gave a farewell salute and marched into the ship, mumbling to herself about magnetic screwdrivers, gravitational adjusters, and digital aroma scanners.

Rel wore a headscarf that was usually kept unraveled around his neck. Those who didn't know many Varunas assumed it was a cultural thing. In actuality, it was a comfort thing. As someone who studied security --particular non-lethal-- Rel learned certain fighting styles. The one that suited him the most was based on stealth, quick attacks, and flexibility. His mentor had called it "Faux-Assassin" as the style was used by assassins, but Rel meant to use it as protection of his crew, not the plotted murder of another. The headscarf, originally an experiment, became something Rel was comfortable wearing. He often adjusted it subconsciously when he was anxious. Now was one of those times. He tightened it around his neck, lifting it slightly as he followed the other Varuna. "I am actually leaving for my deployment today, though judging by the direction you are going," he nodded towards the dock which they were nearing, "I would assume so are you." As they reached the docking area for the Ouranos, his lips arched into a slight smile. "It looks like we are crewmates." He stopped in front of the Captain, stood at attention, and saluted. "Lieutenant Relaganos Gavi, reporting for security duty, Captain."

Almira watched as her engineer hurried off to continue her work, glad to see her officer taking her job seriously. She eyed the tablet displaying the list of crew that were left to board the ship. Once the last of the stragglers boarded and settled in, they would soon depart. She waited by the airlock for several minutes, her eyes still fixed on the screen, before more of her crew appeared. Two Varuna. Security and medical officers.

    "
At ease, Lieutenant. It will be good to have word of you. I have seen the commendations from your previous commander. I appreciate a security officer who employs such creative means to get the job done, you will fit in here Lieutenant Gavi. Perhaps the VR rooms on deck 8 would suit you until you are assigned a post. Otherwise you may take your place at the tactical console on the bridge, deck 5." Captain Altius turned towards the security officer's current companion and glanced at her tablet which had already recognized Clarity's face and displayed her information onscreen. "And you are Lieutenant Clarity, medical officer. Pleasure to have you on board. Sickbay is on deck 2, given how short we are on time, I suggest you to take a moment to ensure that everything is to your liking. I am sure your workload will be light considering our lack of troubles at the moment. Feel free to use your spare time as you see fit."

Irrin offered the girl a halfhearted salute, stepping over towards Yvett to look over her shoulder at the console. She was right in her assessment to no surprise of his own. Nodding in satisfaction, Irrin glanced at the girl who appeared to show some signs of nervousness but he paid it no mind. Many young officers showed the same signs on their first new assignment. Truthfully, he too was nervous given the importance of the ship he found himself in. He would have shown signs of stress had he been forced to take a command position at the bridge. Not again. He thought to himself. Never again.

    "
On second thought, there will be no need for formalities around me. I am not your commanding officer." While regulation stated that he was indeed a superior officer to her and even the captain herself, he did not have the authority to give orders unless the captain or Coalition intelligence authorized it. He just felt it would have been better not strictly adhering to "the book" to make things go more smoothly and ease the nerves of those who might be intimidated by his presence. "Irrin or Quint will do just fine, Yvette."

Quint headed over towards the tactical console several meters away and examined it closely before someone could take their post at the chair. He flicked through the options, taking in the shield strength, weapon strength, and tractor beam intensity along with other functions nestled away in the operating system. In every way, the Ouranos was superior to the Elanus. This was some comfort to him. "
How long have you been serving on starships? Or is this your first deep space assignment?" He questioned Yvette.

Well one thing was for certain, whatever Aeros had stumbled upon in the VR room wasn't something that he was supposed to see. That much became clear by her last words towards him as she left. Least he wasn't actually going to tell anyone what he had saw so there was one less thing to worry about. Now that the VR room was free, Aeros walked into it himself and started to find a program for himself to do.

"Let's see, this goes here and this goes there." The soft, but rapid sounds of pens and other such things tapping and against a metal surface could be heard as Crow, the oddly named Varuna, organized his work space in her quarters. Normally Crow wasn't one to care too much about the way things were placed in his quarters, well the none medical related things anyway, but recently he had decided to actually make an attempt at organizing his belongings and the end result was it was harder to find what he was looking for. Thus now we have him doing a mixture of putting things back were he last remembered them being as well as somewhat organizing them. He may be here for a while.

Clarity flushed. She hadn't actually expected Rel to follow her; given her lack of pre-empting the situation with the drunk. Her blush turned a darker color when she realized he wasn't actually following her, he was a crewmate. She found herself saved from responding as the woman finished talking to Rel and turned to Clarity herself, giving her assignment and location. Clarity found herself nodding and murmuring in assent, saluting the woman before stepping onto the ship.

"I hope you don't think I'm rude." She told
Rel with a small, uncertain smile. "I simply didn't want to take up any more of your time." She wasn't this shy, or this gentle on her home planet. But cultural shock and homesickness hit hard on both fronts, forcing the Varun to withrdaw. That is, until the drunk tried to literally force her out.

"I suppose I'll be seeing you around." She bit her lip, wondering which way the med bay was. Surely there were signs....somewhere....Dammit, she just needed one thing to be easy.

Brianne watched the elevator door close, and heaved a sigh. She hadn't actually paid attention to which floor she had selected on the menu until the doors slid open once more to reveal the bridge. Squaring her shoulders, Brianne walked by most of the crew, her eyes straight forward and her hands at her side. She didn't feel in any particular mood for conversation, not after what had just occurred. She wanted time to decompress, ponder and strategically think on how to deal with this issue.

The sight of a crew member, not familiar and yet all too familiar at the same time, flicking through the screens pertaining to the ship's defenses caught her attention. He was speaking to a young woman, a pilot. She stepped up to them, hands locking behind her back. "Everything to your liking?" She asked them both, though her eyes remained on
Quint for a second longer before they turned to Yvette. "Commander Lightwood. You are?"

With Quint looking over her shoulder Yvette felt the extra pressure to do things right. She was confident in herself when people were not looking over her shoulder. When they were it could make her a littler nervous at times. That being said she still didn't plan to mess anything up, she knew what she was doing perfectly well. Everything would be fine, she just had to assure herself of that.

Yvette relaxed her shoulders slightly when the
man told her there was no need for formalities. He seemed like a pretty relaxed person, that was good. It made her feel a little more comfortable. "Okay Quint, I think I can manage that." She responded to his request not to speak to him formally. As he looked over at the other console, Yvette sat back down in her seat reexamining her controls as he started talking to her once more.

"This isn't my first flight, it is about my fourth, but it is the first time flying on something this big. I am amazed by the size of it, but it isn't anything I can't handle. After all I grew up flying, it is in my blood." Yvette trailed off thinking back to when she got to fly free on her home world. It didn't happen as much as she liked, but the feeling of flying in the open air was something she missed. She enjoyed being in the cockpit or on the bridge in charge of a large ship, but just flying herself on her own wings, it was better than all that. However is she stayed there, she couldn't just fly free. There was always guards around and people trying to protect her so she wouldn't get hurt, like she was some sort of prize. There was not enough freedom in that life. And though she would have to return to it eventually, she would enjoy the time she had here.

Her thoughts were broken when another
woman approached. Yvette stood and saluted this woman as well. When she introduced herself it turned out she was a commander. As intimidated as Yvette should have felt by this, she didn't feel that intimidated, no more than with anyone else. "Ensign Yvette Grear Commander. Everything is to liking Commander." Yvette responded as she stood up perfectly straight and held her salute out of respect for her position. She remained in that position until given permission to do anything else from the Commander. Respect was of the utmost importance here and she was sure to remember that. She had been taught that enough at home, but she was always on the other end of the spectrum, being expected to demand respect. It wasn't something she was totally thrilled to have to do, that was part of the reason that she was happy being here instead of at home.
