See, when I heard about the giant trash heap in the Pacific ocean, I really wanted to do something. Really, but when I got home from school...Its like it didnt even matter anymore...

Nah, you're just not used to helping people out. I mean, yeah, it sounds like laziness, but that can be easy to overcome. I was the same way.

Don't worry too much - it's part of being human. Whenever you watch commercials or the news you'll always think "Man that sucks - I wish I could help to make things better" yet end up forgetting about those thoughts after like 30 minutes. Fact is there is little a single individual can do - being part of something bigger with the same state of mind and determination would get you further into taking action. Though I think there's something in the subcontious mind that dislikes uncomfortable situations like the problems of the world, and tries to push it away asap as if it never happened.
